Whenever I try to download something (example - the latest version of Acrobat Reader). I get a warning that says my Security Settings won't allow it. To my knowledge, nothing has been changed, and this has only been happening since I downloaded all of the latest Windows updates. I have no idea if this is related or how to fix this problem. Can someone give me a clue on what to do?

When I try to download perfectly safe stuff, I get a message saying that my security settings will not allow me download the file.I have followed advice about changing the settings etc, however when I follow any of the steps, it either won't let me perform the actions OR, the settings just bounce back to what they were before.I no longer have an Active-X bar along the top to help with downloading.I read that if these don't work:Try these two methods for changing the security..Try these two methods for changing the security settings.
Method #1
1. To lower the security setting in Internet Explorer:
2. In the browser's Tools menu, select Internet Options.
3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab.
4. In the "Select a Web content zone" control, click the Internet icon.
5. In the "Security level for this zone" area, reset security to Medium.
6. Click OK.
Method #2
1. Select Tools Menu from Tool Bar
2. Select Internet Options
3. Select Security tab
4. Select Custom Level button
5. Scroll down to Downloads
6. Under File Downloads - If the File Downloads is not disabled you will not be able to download files.
To enable file downloads check the enable option. My only other option is mucking around with registry keys, which being a puter dunce and haven't a clue about anything like that, I'm not going to attempt. Is there ANYTHING else I can try (nice easy steps) that it going to allow me download stuff that I want from the internet.

Often, when attempting to download a particular file, I will get the Security Alert message: "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." For example, this message appears when attempting to download IE 8 and regardless of the security settings, firewall on or off, etc.

I need to download Macrommedia flash. However something is stopping the download. The security bar does not even appear to ask confirmation in fact nothing happens it just will not download. I have tried disabling spywareblaster and spybot in case there is a conflict there. I have disable the pop up blocker can anyone advise. I am running XP with SP2 and windows firewall. I have attached an image of the download section which has a red x in a box which I assume is disabling an image or something.

I just resinstalled XP 2003 SP2 after changing motherboard. My C drive was cleaned to the bone also. My only question is do I have to reinstall every Microsoft Windows update?
I am currently facing their second list of updates, after a two-item previous list, and the current one includes about 61 Windows Security Updates for Windows XP. Should I install each one of them? Is their any alternative? This list has one cumulative update for IE, and one for Windows Media Player, but then sixty-one Windows Security Updates for Windows XP mostly all dealing with hijacking vulnerabilities.

All of a sudden I can not download any programs, music files etc. I just get the above message in my Mozilla Firefox download screen. The same thing happened when I tried Internet Explorer.
I am running Windows XP and using Firefox 3.0.1. The problem is that Download blocked by Security Zone Policy, I have gone into the Internet section of control panel and reduced the zone protection to the minimum. I have turned the firewall in McAfee off. These actions did not have any effect. I am not aware of any other program on my computer that would cause this to happen. I use Sypware Doctor, but I disabled that also. My computer is set to load Windows updates automatically and that would be the only software updated I might have loaded.

When I reinstalled XP everything seemed to work well. No error messages, until I was contacted by MS Update that updates were ready for download. There were 77. It seems they download just fine, but during 'initializing installation', the screen abruptly changes to a list of files that failed to install, which is all 77. I then attempted to shut down the computer and reboot. No change. I tried installing one at a time. No difference. I tried installing in numerical order. No change. There is no error message other than 'Some files failed to install'.

I am looking for a way to download Windows XP updates to a CD. The reason is I am working on my sister's computer which says she needs many updates, including Windows XP Service Pack 2. She uses dial up and one download can take hours. My computer is on cable hookup and downloads quickly. I would like to download the updates to a cd and transfer to her computer. However, going to the download sites requires it searching my system which doesn't match. I run Win98. Does anyone know how I can get these updates?

XP Pro SP2, Intel 3.3 cpu, 1 gig ram. My automatic updating stopped working. I had it set to notify me of new updates, and I downloaded and installed what I wanted. Now I get no notifications. If I go to the Windows download site the option I select is download critical updates. This brings up a window telling me that my computer is being checked to see if all the needed files for downloading are on my machine. I am told that they are missing and that I can download and install them by clicking on the provided button. I then see messages saying that the download is progressing, and when I get to 100% a new message tells me that the files are being registered. So far so good. Unfortunately, I am returned to the window saying my computer must be checked, and we go around again. In my investigations to date, the only suggestion I found (in several places) is update my display driver. I have not yet done so because my screen presents no problems. Anybody out there have experience with something like this?

When I go to Wundows update http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us The Window Update dialogue opens saying "The updates are being downloaded and installed". Windows Update indicates 8 Critical Updates neet to be installed. I have tried both Express and Manual install. The Windows Update site has even rechcecked to make sure I am using an genuine Windows product.
I niticed in the Start menu there is also a Microsoft Update When I go to http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us. Although it appears to be the same URL all I get is a blank page and the IE window freezes and I have to End Task. The Windows Update dialogue opens saying "The updates are being downloaded and installed". Windows Update indicates 8 Critical Updates neet to be installed. I have tried both Express and Manual install. The Windows Update site has even rechcecked to make sure I am using an genuine Windows product. But nothing happens. The Installation status box stays blank and the download progress bar continually says "Preparing for download" After about 10 minutes the Installing Updates dialogue says "Updates were unable to be successfully installed". No error messages or codes received.
Meanwhile the Windows Connector icon in the Taskbar indicates no data being transfered except it occassionally flashes as though it is attempting to connect to the server.Currently updated AVG, S&D, Ewido, MS Antispyware, Registry Mechanic and Adawre indicate no problems. HJT does not seem to indicate any problems. Trying System Restore didn't help.Using XP Home, IE6 SP2.

I have not been able to download and install MS security updates for several weeks after never having this problem for years previously. What is happening is the process stalls at the place where it is, "Checking for the latest updates for your computer." I am only behind four or five small downloads, so the process should not take too long and never has before. I have let it run for a half hour with no success. The progress bar shows no activity either.
