Computer Running - Failure To Initialize

Jun 3, 2007

i keep my computer running all the time. At irregular intervals approximately every 2-3 days the computer will partially freeze. I say partially, because programs already loaded continue to work, but any attempt to run any new application produces the message "failed to initialize". So for example I can still use or save an Excel worksheet that was already open but if Excel were not open and I try to open it I would get the "failed to initialize" message. Outwardly the computer appears fine - it is only when I go to use it or realise I haven't had an email in a long while that I suspect it has "gone again". Re-starting the computer without pulling the plug takes 30 minutes, but does eventually work after several non-responsive programs are terminated (not the same ones each time). All very frustrating....

Computer Crashing - Open Program - Application Failed To Initialize

Apr 23, 2008

I'm using Windows XP on a home computer. My computer keeps crashing. It locks up and I have to pull the plug. If I'm in a forum, lines of type start disappearing. If I'm trying to open a program I get an error message like "application failed to initialize." Yesterday I got a Runtime error message: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I ran Trend antivirus program and Webroot spysweeper, but no problems identified. I keep getting messages from Bigfix that a problem was encountered but by then I can't get Bigfix to open because it's locked up. I ran a dxdiag but it showed no problems either. The problem started when I ran the Uniblue registry sweeper which I thought was free. It identified some old stuff but charged a fee to fix it, so I deleted Uniblue. I went into regedit and removed Uniblue and while I was there I removed several old games from Gamehouse that had been uninstalled over the past year. I swear I didn't touch anything else in the registry! Please keep responses simple and specific as I don't know much about computers.

I just tried to open Incredimail and got the following message: IncMail.exe Application Error: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000044). Click on OK to terminate the application. Surprisingly, my computer didn't lock up yet and I was able to return here to edit my post, but a crash is coming....

Computer Running Slow - Running Though A Router Setup

May 27, 2006

We run Comcast high speed, two computers running though a router setup. My son "opened a port" to speed up his game play. My computer now crawls. Pages take too long to load, and I now sometimes get the server error message here, server not responding. Any idea what I can do. My son seems baffled, but I know he doesn't want to sacrifice his warp speed game play.

Disk Boot Failure On HP Computer

Feb 27, 2008

I've had this computer for a year and a half, and this is the third time it's done this. I want to know if it's something I can fix on my own - I dont' know much about computers at all. To get into setup, I have to press F1 from the start up menu. If I don't do that, it takes me to a black screen where it says, Disk Boot Failure, please insert system disk and press enter. I have taken this computer to a repair shop, where I have been charged 200 dollars each time I get this message. Please advise me on what I should do, or if I'm doing something wrong? I have windows XP and it has only one DVD/CD drive, no floppy or anything like that. It started doing it this time when it froze and then I pressed cntrl-alt-delete and got the above error message.

Computer Won't Boot Up After Power Failure

Apr 28, 2010

I was on the computer this morning (plugged into a power bar) when all of a sudden the power went out in my neighbourhood. I was just on the desktop at the time I believe. I unplugged everything to prevent anything from surging to be safe, and I went out for the day. When I got home, the power was back on, and so I plugged the computer back in. However, as I plugged in the computer, it turned on by itself. Normally it does not do this when I plug it in after it was forced to shut down for a blackout. I immediately knew something was up.When it started to turn on, it immediately went to a blue screen of death.

It won't get past this screen. I've tried Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, Normal Mode and it just keeps going back to this screen. I also noticed it doesn't make the normal noises when it's booting up. It doesn't make that 'click click' sound when I'm booting up (I believe that's a hard drive sound?). I do have access to the Windows Recovery Console (I think - it appears as an option - I don't know if it will work) but I don't know what to do. It sounds like it did something to the hard drive... when I boot up the computer normally it asks me to press F1 (because my CMOS battery is low)... now on that screen it says Serial ATA at the top. I don't know why that is, or if this has anything to do with the low CMOS battery before, but I can't get it to turn on at all at the moment. I don't understand why the power failure would do this (or what it did)... I've never not been able to boot up after a power failure. And surely there wasn't a surge since it wasn't plugged in when the power came back on.Did it kill the HD? Anything I can do to at least recover some files?

Boot Failure: Computer Cycles Through Startup?

Apr 29, 2010

I have recently had a major system failure, specifically my Windows XP will no longer fully boot. When I power on my computer, it gets to the "windows had
a problem starting up" page, where it gives options for starting in safe mode, normal mode, etc. However, no matter which option I choose, the computer cycles through startup and comes back to this same page. I have tried hitting F8 and getting to the advanced options, but I get the same result. Nothing I try works. I suspect there are corrupted sectors in the core system somewhere.

Disk Boot Failure: Computer Freezes / Held Power Button?

May 15, 2005

well i have read a lot about this problem but im dont think i really found a solution so i thought i would make a new thread. Well i was just on my computer using p2p file sharing program. and then my computer froze. first the program itself and then the whole computer just froze. So i held down the power button until it turned off and then i turned it back on and then i received this error. Disk boot failure. insert system disk and press enter.

I have my stuff backed up, i used it as a secondary and i backed up the things i needed, so i dont really care that much if i need to format. The funny thing though is that it actually froze once on my brothers computer when i was transferring files and when i restarted it wouldnt boot up and when i took out my hard drive my brothers computer booted up perfectly and after it booted up perfectly i shutted it back down and then i attached my hard drive as a slave again and then it booted up.

Failed To Initialize Properly

"The application failed to initialize properly (0x80000003). Click on OK to terminate the application." Since I installed Visual Studio 2005, I've been getting this error when trying to run Soulseek, which has been working fine before. After OK, the same message comes up again, and after OK again, it closes and Soulseek doesn't run.The same thing happens trying to run Media Player Classic, and the HijackThis installer. Some googling suggested that other people had similar problems with other programs that might be .NET Framework related. I tried reinstalling Framework 2.0, installing 3.0, without any luck. Finally, I uninstalled Visual Studio and everything I could identify as installed with it, but still nothing.

USERINIT.exe Application Failed To Initialize

Apr 30, 2007

I would appreciate any useful information. Making sly remarks is childish.I to have received the message: "USERINIT.exe Application failed to initialize" after removing software that was previously install and may have been causing the computer to not get a TCP/IP number. Now I can not get to the desktop, It hangs.
I agree sometimes reloading a cleaned of hard drive may be the only way to resolve a problem. However, first see if there are any quick fixes that may save some time.
If all you can say is start over again from scratch then you are wasting your time and everyone else's that reads for some answers.

Application Failed To Initialize Properly

Nov 19, 2006

I have Windows XP. I update my Virus Subscription in January every year and this year Norton said they no longer support the one I was using. I updated to the latest version and it included Pop up blocking and a bunch of other stuff. When it ran the scan it came up with a bunch of things and I diligently followed all the instructions to take care of them. (I don't know if this has ANYTHING to do with my problem but from some of the other posts I thought it might.) To make a long story short, I tried to update to Windows Media Player 10 to interface an MP3 player my daughter wanted to use. When I did this I got the following message. 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150004). Click on OK to terminate application.' After 2 days of trying to figure out what is causing this, I reverted back to the previous version I had and was grateful I got it back. Now, a few months later, I am working on something for my job and I go to install the software I need and the same message appears! So, I need some help. I am somewhat tech savvy but I haven't read code since learning Fortran in college 20 years ago!

Lsass.exe And Services.exe Fail To Initialize Properly

Nov 10, 2007

I have a WinXP Pro machine that I just had to do a repair install of XP SP2. All works fine until I run windows updates. The first thing windows updates will do is update itself. But then it will not install any other updates. I found a forum on this and started the following services:

regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll

Then I ran windows update again. This time I chose custom updates and started installing only a few updates at time to try to narrow down the offending one. When I got to the ones listed below and restarted my pc, I started getting errors that lsass.exe and services.exe failed to initialize properly (0xc0000096). Here are the last updates I installed:

Security updates for KB930178, KB931261, KB932168, KB925902, KB928255, KB928843, KB927802, KB924667, KB927779, KB918118, KB926436, KB923980

I am going to try another repair install and update up to KB930178 but would appreciate any assistance in determining why these updates cause the lsass.exe and services.exe errors when restarting after they are installed.

Sudden Working Stops - Failed To Initialize

Unable To Load (initialize) IE Due To Insufficient Resources - MBR

Dec 14, 2005

I am constantly connected to the internet via the university's network, run AVG 7.1 free, spybot s&d and its tea timer, and ad-aware se personal, all with updated definitions. I run an ewido online scan once a week, but don't keep it installed since it causes my computer to boot much more slowly. I also have the most current windows updates, except WMPlayer 10, and .Net 2.0 because it seems unnecessary. Well, back to the problem. I was talking to my friend on AIM, when I got the message "The connection to the service was lost" and had options to try and reconnect, etc. I tried to load IE, but it gave me some error along the lines on "Unable to load (initialize?) IE due to insufficient resources." I have a gig of ram, 3.0 GHZ P4, 120 Gig of hdd space, about 80 gig free, and run CCleaner about twice a week.

Anyway, I've been clean according to those 3 programs I use frequently, but after I got kicked off AIM and IE wouldnt load, my favorites were empty, programs wouldnt load, i couldnt shut down, etc. So I hit the reset button. When rebooted, the BIOS screen showed, and stayed for along time which it never does. Then, it kind of froze. As illogical as this seems, I just hit the switch on the back of the powersupply and waited about 2 minutes. All of my fans are clear of dust and in working operation (GPU, CPU, and PSU). I havent installed or removed any hardware / software recently, etc. So when I restarted, I rebooted into "safe mode with network support" and ran Spybot, Adaware, AVG7.1 and Ewido online scan. None reported anything outstanding, but AVG notes that read errors occured for the MBR and boot sector. Ewido found "spyware.chitika" which it removed. I rebooted and am currently in "safe mode with networking" just to be safe, but my question is: what could have caused this? and how can I fix my MBR? Thanks for any suggestions. I have a final paper that I need to finish before friday!
