Seems the "compress old files" won't Cleanup. They just keep building and building. The Web Client won't delete either. How can I remove these files? Pic below is after I've cleaned up twice.
Have WinXP SP3. When I use Disk Cleanup feature, I cannot remove 'compress old files', even though it is checked. Should they be removed? Any harm in removing them? If not, how do I do it?
I Went To Disk Clean Up .cleaned Up The All The Files But It Showed I Got Over 3 Thousand. Old Compressed Files. Theres A Check In The Box To Clean Them Up .but It Won't Do Nothing.is There Another Way To Get Rid Of Them? Im Using Windows Xp Home Editon.
I am cleaning it up a bit, and when I did disc clean-up, where it says old compressed files, there are a lot like 1,318,178 of them.what are they if I check the box, does disc cleanup delete them, or does it compress them. How long will that many files take to compress or delete or whatever I have to do? Is there something wrong with my PC to have that many files there like that? I already got rid of the Temp Files, and Defraged, but these compressed things are confusing me.can someone advise me if I should check the box and let the disc cleaner deal with them.I'm afraid that there are so many, what if it deletes everything.
Whenever I try to run Disk Cleanup, it starts to check how much space can be freed up, first by checking "Compress old files." Since I probably have something on the order of 5-10 million files on my computer (this isn't an exaggeration; I have several million files from research with medical data), this part of the scan essentially means that I always have to cancel Disk Cleanup, because it will never finish. Is there any way to do Disk Cleanup, but disable the scan for old files that Windows would want to compress?
I am running Windows XP home edition in disk clean up option I have it set to compress old files I haven't accessed in 6 days When I run disk clean up it cleans everything else I have checked but won't compress old files What should I do ?
Windows XP: I did a Disk Cleanup and accidentally chose compress old files. My computer is now slowing down. Is there any way I can find these compressed files and un-compress them permanently?
Whenever I do a "disk cleanup" on my hard drive, it shows a whole bunch of categories which can be cleaned up.When I do, there's one category ("Web Client/Publisher Temporary Files" )which always shows 32KB before AND after the clean-up.Could that be associated woth FrontPage 2003, and if so, where are these 32 KB hiding? (Which files[s] I mean?) How come "Disk Cleanup" does not delete these files, even though it tells me that "these files can be deleted safely"?Can I delete them manually?
I have Microsoft Office 2003 on my computer. When I run disk cleanup, under the files to delete it lists Office Setup Files. I never want to delete these files. So my question is, how do I get this option for deleting these files out of disk cleanup so it doesn't check these files every time I open the program.
I recently had my computer crash due to a TROJAN virus and at that time I had Windows XP service pack 3 which my computer man installed for me. After being infected I had to completely reinstall EVERY thing on my computer taking my computer back down to Service Pack 1 the only operating disks I had. Now when I do a Disk Clean Up, it doesn't have the option to "Compress Old Files."
I have a pc running win XP pro and when I login as a user I can't compress file. But if I login as an administrator, I am able to select the files, send to a compressed folder. Althought I could easily get a third party compression software such as WinZip, etc. I am curious how to setup the winXP.
A friend asked me to send him a copy of a photo I had taken which I did he the complained that it was too big and that I should resize it how I asked so he told me, go to my pictures right click on an image select mail recipient and a panel will appear offering to resize the image for emailing. This is where the fun begins not for me I said so I investigate a bit and find this powertoys programe download it ( I have reinstalled this prog more times this week than you've had hot dinners) I have tried any number of so called fixes that I have found on other forums it just don't work, in fact the image resizor option your supposed to have when you right click on an image which should create a resized clone in the same folder dosn't work either to add insult to injury my friend wondered why I had to right click on the image anyway as for him all he has to do is hover the mouse icon over the image and the panel appears. Ideas needed.

How do I know what stuff I need to keep, and what I can delete? I have a HP (a305w) w/XP. It seems very slow and freezes up a lot. I have to use task manager to end task more and more often. Sometimes I get error messages something about cont. to run scripts on this page. (When it comes up again I'll get the exact words.) And I'm not sure how the auto updates are supposed to work but it doesn't seem to be working, right. There are a lot of updates listed on the installuninstall list. There are also alot of proccess running, but can I copy them,or do I have to type each one? What other info. might help? Oh-yeah, I'm a single mother of 4. I don't have much $$ to spend on downloads.

I have my defrag fixed for the Volume Shadow Copy, but now my disk cleanup won't work. It starts then it stops. Any Solution? I really don't want to do a PC reinstall that Dell advised before I got my answer from this forum on fixing the volume shadow copy problem.
I performed Disk Cleanup several times to delete all the files in, "Compress Old Files," however, it continues to show 1 KB. I don't know the identification and location of the sticking file. This just occurred recently as Disk Cleanup has always deleted the unwanted files before. How do I delete it manually and where can I find it? Why won't Disk Cleanup delete it? Is it fixable?HP Laptop Windows XP Home Edition.
I am having a problem with cleaning my C drive. I tried last night about 2 am to use the Accesories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup and this morning at 10 am it has done NOTHING. It's like it's stuck on stupid or something. I had to go in and manually delete some files, but I am afraid to go to far with that.
Cleanmgr.exe is designed to clear unnecessary files from your computer's hard disk. You can use command-line options to specify that Cleanmgr.exe cleans up certain files. You can then schedule the task to run at a specific time by using the Scheduled Tasks tool.To start the Disk Cleanup tool, either run the Cleanmgr.exe command, or click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup. Disk Cleanup supports the following command-line options: /d driveletter: - This option specifies the drive that you want Disk Cleanup to clean. /sageset: n - This option displays the Disk Cleanup Settings dialog box and also creates a registry key to store the settings that you select. The n value, which is stored in the registry, allows you to specify tasks for Disk Cleanup to run. The n value can be any integer value from 0 to 65535. To have all of the options available when you use the /sageset option, you might need to specify the drive where Windows is installed. /sagerun: n - This option runs the specified tasks that are assigned to the n value if you use the sageset option. For example, in Scheduled Tasks, you could run the following command after you run the cleanmgr /sageset:11 command: cleanmgr /sagerun:11This command runs Disk Cleanup and includes the options that you specified with the cleanmgr /sageset:11 command.

I acquired an 80gb external HD from a freind. It is not clean it so I want compress a lot his files and folders and leave one to side for while till its safe to delete it all. I have permission to delete everything. But I am being a little cautious. The trouble is one of the directory is huge, about 20gb, with many subdirectories and folders. There many instances when whole list of folders are empty. There could be 100s or 1000s of these empty folders. Is there a freeware filemanager with a filter that I can use to isolate all the empty folders and delete them. And how would you use the filter. I would then be able to defrag the HD.
