Ran A Cleanup - Ewido Scan
Jan 6, 2006Please take a look at the hijackthis log. I ran a cleanup and ewido scan. It removed some stuff. Still having some errors and browser shut-downs. Please help.

Disk Cleanup / The Scan Just Freezes

Jul 21, 2005When I run Disk Cleanup, it says it is scanning the disk, and I hear disk working noises, but in just a couple of seconds it presents me with its list of proposed files to delete.It *never* offers to compress old files, though I certainly have files that qualify. Just to test it, I clicked on the Options button and
changed the default "age" of files to compress to 7 days instead of 50. Disk Cleanup *still* didn't find any to offer me.
Ewido And Hijackthis Are Clean - Keep Getting Popups For Antivirus Crap
Sep 25, 2006all i can say is ewido and hijackthis are clean, but i keep getting popups for antivirus crap. i'm going to try to delete mozilla, and then re-install it as some of the popups mention it. here's what one of the popups said:

System Restore - Malware Problems - Avast, Ewido, Spybot,CCleaner Spyware Blaster
Jul 8, 2006A friend of mine has been having malware problems, and I want to shut down system restore and run Ewido in safe mode. My question is, when I shut down system restore, and then turn it back on when I'm done, does it kill all restore points? Will that be a problem? Can't I just create a new one if needed? And last, won't new ones be created automatically over time? I've never done this,so I would like to be sure before I do.I probably need to stay away from this before I make a bad situation worse. She does have Avast, Ewido, Spybot,CCleaner,and Spyware Blaster. The problem is, she doesn't update or run them.I updated everything she had and ran them and everything is much better, but still a little bit slow. I thought maybe running Ewido in safe mode might get some that might be hiding in system restore. Would like to know if this is safe to do Thanks......Maggie

Nov 19, 2006I went to use PerfectDisc yesterday, it suggested I do a bootup scan, I did, allowed it to do pagefile scan too. Ran fine. Then rebooted, went to do regular scan. it locked up on the Blue Screen of Death.
"Bad_Pool_Header" and gave some error info... 0x00000019, and so on.
Computer runs fine though otherwise, which is funny.
Then when I try to go to Registry Mechanic and scan, it goes all the way through, and on I believe the deepscan, it always goes to BSOD there. I think while it's in the HKEY section of current user.
There may be other programs that will cause the BSOD, but these 2 are the only ones so far. Please guide me through this....Anyone.

Aug 27, 2006How do I know what stuff I need to keep, and what I can delete? I have a HP (a305w) w/XP. It seems very slow and freezes up a lot. I have to use task manager to end task more and more often. Sometimes I get error messages something about cont. to run scripts on this page. (When it comes up again I'll get the exact words.) And I'm not sure how the auto updates are supposed to work but it doesn't seem to be working, right. There are a lot of updates listed on the installuninstall list. There are also alot of proccess running, but can I copy them,or do I have to type each one? What other info. might help? Oh-yeah, I'm a single mother of 4. I don't have much $$ to spend on downloads.

I have permission to delete everything. But I am being a little cautious.The trouble is one of the directory is huge, about 20gb, with many subdirectories and folders. There many instances when whole list of folders are empty. There could be 100s or 1000s of these empty folders.Is there a freeware filemanager with a filter that I can use to isolate all the empty folders and delete them. And how would you use the filter. The ignore didn't do anything. I right clicked on "disc cleanup" and checked users and it was set to the administer. I even tried a different user but that didn't work either.I have run three virus scans: AVG 8.5,SUPERAnti spyware,and Malwarebytes' Anti Malware. I tried Hijackthis but have no idea what/how to doi with it. I have run registery cleaner,and a few other things that I have found on this site. Now I am getting an error message: C:WindowsSystem 32cleanmgr.exe is not a valid Win 32 application.

Dec 30, 2005Wow, this is kind of odd I ran disk cleanup and noticed that the size of the temporary files it wants to delete totals about 56 GBs, which is pretty much everything on my HD.It did this once before, only it just deleted Windows, which is pretty ironic.I've tried running chkdsk with the r parameter, and it found nothing, so I'm not sure exactly what to do with a Windows-specific issue like this, especially seeing as I have no restore points other than the latest one, which was just before I found this all out. Reformatting is NOT an option.
