View 14 RepliesHave WinXP SP3. When I use Disk Cleanup feature, I cannot remove 'compress old files', even though it is checked. Should they be removed? Any harm in removing them? If not, how do I do it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSeems the "compress old files" won't Cleanup. They just keep building and building. The Web Client won't delete either. How can I remove these files? Pic below is after I've cleaned up twice.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I do a "disk cleanup" on my hard drive, it shows a whole bunch of categories which can be cleaned up.When I do, there's one category ("Web Client/Publisher Temporary Files" )which always shows 32KB before AND after the clean-up.Could that be associated woth FrontPage 2003, and if so, where are these 32 KB hiding? (Which files[s] I mean?) How come "Disk Cleanup" does not delete these files, even though it tells me that "these files can be deleted safely"?Can I delete them manually?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Microsoft Office 2003 on my computer. When I run disk cleanup, under the files to delete it lists Office Setup Files. I never want to delete these files. So my question is, how do I get this option for deleting these files out of disk cleanup so it doesn't check these files every time I open the program.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLast night I noticed 2 files remaining after deleting my temp files. When I try to delete them, a warning box appears saying that another person or program is using these files. Task manager says no other program is running and I do not see any suspicious processes running. The only recent changes I have made was to schedule a daily backup via NTBACKUP and a daily rename & compression of the backup files via a batch file with Task Scheduler. Does task scheduler leave .tmp files in place I don't want to delete the .tmp files if they are indeed needed by something important
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently had my computer crash due to a TROJAN virus and at that time I had Windows XP service pack 3 which my computer man installed for me. After being infected I had to completely reinstall EVERY thing on my computer taking my computer back down to Service Pack 1 the only operating disks I had. Now when I do a Disk Clean Up, it doesn't have the option to "Compress Old Files."

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am cleaning it up a bit, and when I did disc clean-up, where it says old compressed files, there are a lot like 1,318,178 of them.what are they if I check the box, does disc cleanup delete them, or does it compress them. How long will that many files take to compress or delete or whatever I have to do? Is there something wrong with my PC to have that many files there like that? I already got rid of the Temp Files, and Defraged, but these compressed things are confusing me.can someone advise me if I should check the box and let the disc cleaner deal with them.I'm afraid that there are so many, what if it deletes everything.
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to run Disk Cleanup, it starts to check how much space can be freed up, first by checking "Compress old files." Since I probably have something on the order of 5-10 million files on my computer (this isn't an exaggeration; I have several million files from research with medical data), this part of the scan essentially means that I always have to cancel Disk Cleanup, because it will never finish. Is there any way to do Disk Cleanup, but disable the scan for old files that Windows would want to compress?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I run Disk Cleanup, it says it is scanning the disk, and I hear disk working noises, but in just a couple of seconds it presents me with its list of proposed files to delete. It *never* offers to compress old files, though I certainly have files that qualify. Just to test it, I clicked on the Options button and
changed the default "age" of files to compress to 7 days instead of 50. Disk Cleanup *still* didn't find any to offer me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedCleanmgr.exe is designed to clear unnecessary files from your computer's hard disk. You can use command-line options to specify that Cleanmgr.exe cleans up certain files. You can then schedule the task to run at a specific time by using the Scheduled Tasks tool.To start the Disk Cleanup tool, either run the Cleanmgr.exe command, or click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup. Disk Cleanup supports the following command-line options: /d driveletter: - This option specifies the drive that you want Disk Cleanup to clean. /sageset: n - This option displays the Disk Cleanup Settings dialog box and also creates a registry key to store the settings that you select. The n value, which is stored in the registry, allows you to specify tasks for Disk Cleanup to run. The n value can be any integer value from 0 to 65535. To have all of the options available when you use the /sageset option, you might need to specify the drive where Windows is installed. /sagerun: n - This option runs the specified tasks that are assigned to the n value if you use the sageset option. For example, in Scheduled Tasks, you could run the following command after you run the cleanmgr /sageset:11 command: cleanmgr /sagerun:11This command runs Disk Cleanup and includes the options that you specified with the cleanmgr /sageset:11 command.
