This is so weird.
I go to Run and type CMD enter. You get the dos window right?
Ok, now I type ipconfig. I get a message saying 'ipconfig is not
recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch
file.'.
So I try several other commands and all give me the same error message

Is there some place that I can search to see if windows files/commands are legitimate? I have Zone Alarm and it has programs on it trying to access the Internet that I do not recognize. Another one was: Microsoft Out of Bounds. I have Windows XP Home Edition with all updates.I have ZoneAlarm free and McAffee AntiVirus.Nothing has been detected.

I uninstalled some preloaded Windows programs, I reinstalled some of them, but now my laptop's all funny. When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally. Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored. Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made.

Here is the situation, I have a Dell 700M Inspiron Laptop running windows XP. I have 2 usb ports and alternate between 3 devices - a usb mouse, my pocket pc cell phone, and a Western Digital Mybook External Hard drive. All of a sudden my USB ports stopped recognizing my devices. It still sends power though because I can still plug in my cell phone to charge it. The problem is that the computer fails to recognize any devices anymore, even my mouse. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and restarted my computer several times, I even tried system restore. It may have to do with the fact that I accidently unplugged my hard drive while it was still running without using safely remove my hardware. I have heard stories of western digital harddrives causing BIOS and motherboard failures.

I was using my laptop last night until it ran out of battery and went into hibernate mode. When I tried to turn on my computer this morning, it didn't work and instead this appeared on top of the black screen. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt. You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Can I somehow save commonly used commands? For example, I have problems with my printer about 1/3 of the time. Microsoft has the fix HERE (Method D), and I want to save that run command into a dropdown menu or something (I've already saved the notepad file to the desktop) so that I don't have to look it up all the time. Is that possible? I know it will be there when I open it, IF I haven't used any other run commands, but I want to make sure it's always available without having to look it up.
