View 14 Replies View Relatedlets make this short and simple I have been getting this error for quite a while now and have tried to get it fixed on google this is the error I recieve: STOP 0x0000001e KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in win32k.sys I have determined the cause of this with windows 2000 sp2 and 3 but I use windows 2000 sp4 and I have found nothing about this happening in sp4. It also runs somewhat different as it happens randomly and not as microsoft says with animated cursors, though it seems to happen more often when im trying to play a game, also when I try to do virus scans my computer will all of a sudden restart on me after a bit, im not sure if its always at the same place as the virus scan usually freezes up before my computer restarts, I have tried using Housecall and McAfee virus scans but it happens with both.

In Windows Explorer, when she clicks on the search button, the animated icon appears (dog, in this case), but nothing else - no choices (All files and folders, Pictures, music, or video, etc.) appear. Right-clicking anywhere only gives the Close Toolbar option. the result is that she is unable to search the computer for anything. Same result when using Start->Search. The weird thing is, as I said, Explorer in my user account is fine. I assume it must be a setting somewhere, but I can't find it. Anyone ever encounter this, or know how to remedy it?

View 1 Replies View Relatedon an old hp home pc running xp all updates, when i try to uninstall an installed prog/app i get a box pop up stating that the install log cannot be opened, therefore i am unable to uninstall by the usual means, yes i can delete the prog files and then tidy-up the registry but i would like to know whats stopping the log from opening in the usual way, im not aware of any app that may be locking the log and im not sure where to find access to the log apart from through prog files.

I want this so I can set Permissions, etc. I have it on my other PC set up the same way but for some reason I don't on this new install.

I haven't been to this site for a while and I noticed I'm getting Security Warnings that my security settings has blocked of an ActiveX install. I know how to change those settings, but am reluctant to do so. Can anyone shed some light on this. I occasionally will get similar warnings on other sites, but it is consistant on this one. Once in a while IE6 will hang up on this and I'll have to got to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it.

If I press the "home" button, the active window goes "home" but a new tab is opened with "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" in it. This happens every time I press the "home" button.
Can I stop it opening the new tab?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 40 GB HD on a 2005 Compaq Mobile celeron computer - always had about 20 GB free. Suddenly last month discoverd there was only 5 GB free. I looked on Control Panel Add Remove Pgms list and it shows only the original 4.5 GB trial MS 2003 Office which I have not opened and another 2 GB or so programs. I looked on all Drive C folders and it appease as 2-3 GB total. I looked on My Documents and less than 2 GB. I looked on desktop MS Word files I saved in special folders - onlyabout 3-4 GB Maximum.
All is within 1-2 GB or so that I had before. I did make more DVD copies with Nero Express on my external Sony DVD burner from my own originals of my own Stretching DVD's as i have done with same originals for over a year. Can not find any 2.8 GB or 5 GB files of the Videos anywhere that might have gotten recorded on HD.
Anyone know what caused the problem? I tried restarting my CPU but the problem still stays.
