My laptop running XP with SP3 suddenly no longer wants to connect to our wireless network.The icon for the wireless adapter shows "The wireless adapter is turned off" yet when I try to use the Intel Wireless Troubleshooter is says to use Fn+F2 . That seems to do nothing.
View 6 RepliesWindows Media Player 11, and Napster both say that there is an error with the sound on my laptop. The sound is turned on, and after clicking all the buttons to look at everything to do with sound on my laptop, there is no proplem, aside from the fact that there are no speekers.Here is a screeny to show what I mean. How do I get my computer to find them again? There is no way to turn the speakers off externally.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI had problems with MS automatic updates.Seems a couple of the updates did more damage than anything else. I had to go into Safe Mode to restore my computer to an earlier date. All is running very well, now, with automatic updates turned off. I do get the pop-up at the bottom telling me this alert, but I ignore. ONLY thing is, I am NOT updating anything right now !! I am unsure of what I need & what I don't need, or what may damage my computer.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIam anable to open any MS websites either with IE7 or FireFox. Able to open other websites. I have tried adding "s"to the "http"protocol,but no luck. Then went to internet options and unticked the "tsl"option in Advanced tab,again no luck! Thus iam not able to manually download updates.The XP pro has SP2 and SP3 installed. All the drivers are in place.To add to my woes ,SAS PRO and MBAM are not getting updates too!To survive i have installed AVG 8 Anti-virus and it too is not getting updated! I have turned off the windows firewall and the Comodo Firewall Pro. The KIS 2009 disk is not installing as it is not being accessed by the dvd drive( please see my post in "General security"). When i run the diagnostic tool--i get the message that the PC is unable to access the FTP and the http and https are fine!Please ask for any further info' which i've failed to mention

It is "windows Antivirus Pro" 3 days ago.Now some of the files which I modifies after its attack turned into green in color and I am unable to open it. I am also unable to run any .exe files as well as any command from RUN like regedit or some thing else.I have downloaded "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" and scanned my HDD with the help of another system. Yet those files are GREEN in color and I cannot open it.

The "find a connection" Wizard seems to want to find a dial-up connection and nothing in the way of broadband. I use a Linksys Wireless G PCI Adapter card. The reinstallation did not wipe out any documents or user created files, so am wondering if there is a place in the old Windows files that I can use to get my old connection?

I have my main computer hooked to a wireless router via a cable. The computer that I had to set back to factor defaults in the one with the wireless card. I reinstalled the wireless card software and it it talking to the router but I can't get to the internet.

Now however, I am unable to see wireless networks in the list, without following the instructions on the Microsoft Knowledge Base website, which occurs every time my computer is restarted. It was like that all day yesterday then last night it finally connected, now today it won'tagain. I went to the Acer webpage and downloaded the drivers I guessed I might need. When I try to update drivers on the Acer, and choose my flash drive stick, the computer doesn't see any drivers on the flash drive. View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq EVO D51S SFF which I had plugged to my LCD TV as a media centre, just to watch movies and all. I had not connected this computer to the internet because I did not have a wireless card.I finally installed a wireless card, and then windows started doing all sorts of updates as expected (since the version on the SFF was SP2).Once windows was done with the updates, I started having problems with the screen resolution.
The SFF does not have a stand alone video card, so I had set the resolution at 1024 x 768, and this worked just fine before the updates.Now, the resolution keeps changing and this is a problem because the LCD TV gives me a message saying "Resolution Not Supported", so I can't use the computer unless I connect it to a regular computer monitor, select 1024x768, and then connect to the TV. I connect via VGA port, not DVI (don't have DVI).

Works Ok after administrator account has logged on and established link.Our church wants to set up a computer in our library for visitors to use to access the internet. A hard wire connection to the router works with the Visitor Limited Account without the Administrator account being logged on. Running a hard wire CAT5 cable to the library isn�t an option. The computer�s wireless adapter is Belkin G Plus MIMO USB adapter. The DSL Modem/Router is a Siemens SE 567.

I am suppose to make a folder on my hard drive, then put 3 .txt files in it and a subfolder. I do that and then go to copy it to a CD. At this point I am suppose to change one of the files and delete another one, I do that. Then I am suppose to run the disk and restore it. This is where I get lost. I run the disk and it says that the restore was completed, yet I can not find it. I am suppose to write about the changes from the original to the copy but I can not get it.

I was asked to locate the ethernet port at the back of my printer, plug the ethernet port cable and connect it to the Verizon router. Unfortunately, my printer does not have an ethernet port. I was told to call HP,and I did but did not get much help.What should I do to get my wireless printer work? I have a PC and a laptop. After doing all the Microsoft Updates, ALL the wireless driver installs from Gateway there is no 'Wireless Network Connection' icon. I have also checked Device Manager and there is no wireless adapter. Before this exercise she was running wireless fine. It does work 'hard wired' but no wireless icon.

When this happens I am not able to turn my computer back on. I have to unplug everything. When I plug it back in, the light is usually still orange but I just keep hitting the on and off button until it finally turns green and the computer will start up. I will now shut my computer down at night but when I get up in the morning the light on the computer is orange again.

Here's the problem. When I open Network Connections icon in the Control Panel and click the New Connection Wizard, the "Connect using a dial-up modem" option is grayed out and can't be clicked. Does anyone know what I could do to get that option back?
View 7 Replies View Relatedi ran hijackthis straight out of the .exe file and i can't find the 'backup' folder anywhere (admittedly i don't even know if there is one) but in turning off some start up items, i just went 'i'm so over this' and lost my cool and ticked 2 run.dll files....makes for entertaining computing, this much i know.question one: can i just 'get' necessary .dll win xp sp2 files from somewhere?question two: is this somewhere, a)over the rainbow or b) would i have to 'do something recover style' with the win xp pro disc that would possibly hang me over the edge of losing data which c) is sparsely backed up because d) i'm a tool. question three: above all else, it takes 10min for start up (yes the entire process) to occur which inevitably leads me to having to enter the password for the user (admin) account. is this because of the missing run.dll files or is it because i changed the password not twice but thrice and therefore i may have confused it a little?

This is how to uninstall it:
Navigate to the C:WINDOWSIE8SPUNINST folder and then open it to expose its list of files.
Double-click the SPUNINST.EXE file to start the uninstall process.
Ignore the warning that uninstalling it may cause some of your installed programs not to work.
Restart your computer when prompted to.
When you start IE 7 for the first time, follow the directions to select your personal settings.
Run a scan at the Windows Updates site.
I know it was here at my last login, but Disk Cleanup is no longer listed in Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools, and the shortcut that I had placed on my Desktop is gone as well. This is the second PC on my in-home network, running XP Home edition, that this has happened to within the last 9 months - I have Norton Internet Security (all current and up to date) on all three boxes - anybody know what 's going on?

I'm using Windows XP Home edition with SP 2, I was having some problems with my Mcafee anti-virus software, so I booted up in Safe mode (using msconfig) to do a system virus scan. Once I did that, I tried to load msconfig to get back into normal mode, but i kept getting an error saying I must be logged in as the Administrator to do it, Which I was. Can someone please help me get back into normal mode so I don't have to reformat? Also: I do not have system restore enabled so that is not an option.

I tried opening it using the suggested XP backup utility, but while it does seem to be able to return the the backup to the C: drive, it apparently doesn't 'unzip' the file for examination
