While formatting my system i am facing a problem. the system is showing the following problem.
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windos root>system32dal.dll.Please re install a copy of above file
So my sister gets hold of a computer in the house and ruins it, and here is the dilemma I am facing: I turn on the computer and right away i come to this message....
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
windowssystem32configSYSTEM
Attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the Original CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.
I have a workstation running XP Pro that displays the following error message.Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.Windows rootsystem32hal.dll. View 5 Replies View RelatedI restarted my computer after installing an update to my firewall program. I get the "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WindowsSystem32Hal.dll" I tried to do system restore first (F10) and it tried to start windows to start the system restore program I suppose and so of course the same error message came up. After retrying a few times, I tried the other option in system recovery (f10) and it said user data would be preserved but I may need to reinstall programs, so I thought that'd be fine. I let it do it's thing and came back later when it was done and it looked like the first time I started my computer ever where it has that cheesy music and asks you to name your computer, etc. So I'm finally in Windows again (XP Media Edition 2002 SP2) and the first thing I check is my documents folder and all my documents are gone! I checked the properties of the C: drive and it shows that I've used 224GB space, but I can't find my files anywhere. I've looked in all profiles in documents and settings. It seems like the files should be somewhere since the hard drive shows that I have that used space.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt worked fine for a few days, then I got this blue screen that said I have a system error and that I am missing a file or it is corrupt c:windowssystem32configsystem.Now, this was fine because I thought I knew the answer to this problem, which is incidentally the answer to another recent problem posted on this board, it can be found here:URL...I performed the operation, and again, it was all well and good for a few days.Then I got the same problem again. I used the same solution to make a fix.Then it happened again.So, my question is what's the problem? Do I have a hardware problem? I even used two different WinXp install discs to solve this problem on different occasions since I only needed the recovery console and I thought that the original disc might have become damaged or something.

Well, I woke up this morning to turn on my computer, and I got an error like this. "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem. You can try repairing by using the original windows xp setup cd, press r on the first screen." Well, after scrounging for the xp cd, I put it in and booted from the cd, tried to do a repair install, but the repair option was not available. I could only install another copy of xp (onto the current copy) which I didn't want to do if it means that all my data is lost (I really don't want to lose them again!).I exited and googled up on why repair was not an option (I'm using my laptop btw), and some random dude told another guy with a similar problem to do chkdsk and bootcfg in recovery console. I went into recovery console and kind of played around with bootcfg, and I used the /rebuild function thinking it was repair, and then it asked me to type something and I was confused, so i entered "n" (for no). Well, basically now when I restart I have the option of booting up "Xp Home Edition" or "n", both of which lead to the missing file message, but how did I make two windows? And can I get rid of this "n" windows I made?

"WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT: <WINDOWS ROOT> SYSTEM32HAL.DLL (not yelling ) I have tried to boot from my xp pro cd to utilize the recover utility however the computer will not boot from the cd. I able to use a dos boot disk however my keyboard is USB and I cannot find USB drivers to work under dos, so I was unable to do anything at that point. It was my hope that I could work through dos to edit the boot.ini file.
I do not want to reinstall windows. If I have to I will place the hard drive in another computer as a slave and work on it that way but I'd rather not. The only other tower type computer I have other then laptops is running xp home SP2.
I am getting the following error and it loops: "file is missing or corrupt windows root system32 hal.dll" When I try and run the windows cd and either wipe or repair the error it tells me that the "the setup did not find hard drive disks" Now I am thinking the hard drive is defective?? Or do I have a virus?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was recently given a compaq sr1330nx desktop computer that didn't work. After putting in a different power supply it started right up. It hadn't been used in over a year and I downloaded the 62 high priority updates needed and installed them. The next morning when I started it up it was very slow and unresponsive. I ran the error check utility and defragmented the hard drive. Still very slow and inconsistent. Then is when I probably screwed up and reset the 2 jumpers on the motherboard and went into the bios and checked "reset configuration". Now all I can get is a line of white bars across the bottom of a black screen and the message "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: C:windowssystem32configsystem. I bought a P4 511 processor and an ASUS P5P800-MX motherboard and two 512 MB sticks of RAM I'm using my old 40 GB harddrive from my previous computer. I had installed Windows XP Professional with SP2 and it all worked fine. I then turned my computer off for the night and the next day when I started the computer it would not boot into windows it showed the error message "The following Windows file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM". I booted from the windows XP cd and went into the recovery console and used CHKDSK /R and when that finished Windows booted up fine. However everytime i turn the PC off the error occurs again. Any ideas how to fix this problem permanantly instead of jus until the next reboot?

The computer will not boot after trying to run Autocheck (file is missing or corrupt) and the gives an error. I tried to use the Windows XP disc and the setup sees the partition but cannot recognise the format.Unfortunatley I don't know any commands in command line / repair console. Does anyone know commands to get the machine to run checks / get the machine to install XP? Formatting is the last option as there are some data on the machine that is not backed up.

Now I cant boot up and it tells me my file(System32/system/config) is missing or corrupt. I was thinking it was my Trojan I couldnt get rid of, what do you think? Also, my OS was installed by someone else so I didnt have my own disk, however I have ordered one and it should come in a week. If it is my elusive Trojan, for one, how do I get rid of it for good, and also, when I get my disk I dont know exactly what to do to fix the computer. I cant bring it up in safemode either. I have never installed a OS, but I have installed other software-on a properly functoning computer that is. Do I absolutely have to wipe my hardrive clean, and if so, how do I do it?
