I use cable modem and for some reason if I haven't used my computer for a hour or so Windows XP will shut down my email and browser. This just started to occur within the last week or so
I went to check my email, and found that IE became unresponsive. Thinking that it was just IE 8 being itself, I proceeded to End Task, and tried to re-open the browser. For some reason, it didn't work. I then decided to re-start the computer to see if that would make a difference. When I did, I found that after logging in, the desktop background would show, but nothing else. I let it sit for more than an hour to see if it would respond, but to no avail.
Then, I decided to start the computer in safe mode. This seemed to work fine, and so I assumed that it was some sort of Trojan that was causing my computer to behave abnormally. So, I went online and installed AVG, as Symantec Antivirus did not work in safe mode. But, since Symantec needed to be uninstalled, the computer shut itself down, and restarted. Only this time, the computer simply did not load past the logo screen. Once that screen closed, I got a black screen, with a flashing cursor on the top left hand corner. It's been sitting there for about an hour, and there has been no change.
All updates applied,IE 7 uninstalled,Norton2008 security 15 day trial for antivirus.Java updated. my browser gets stuck, won't shut down sometimes and just seems to hang and bog more often than not.As far as I know i am not running unnescasry programs in background.Pop up blocker is medium, security is default.
when I answer a e-mail with a web site address I get the message "explorer has encountered a problem and has to shut down" Then end up on my home page. HERES the big question, It does not do it to all the links, all the time.it really is annoying. P.S. I started to notice this around the time that Norton started to as me to renew anti-virus protection!!
I am half way computer literate, but this one has me. I am hoping someone can tell me where to look. When I open Internet Explorer, my home page (www.google.com) opens. When it is finished loading, it automatically redirets to yahoo mail login page. The catch is, all my browsers windows that are open will be changed too. If I hit "stop" before the page is loaded, then hit "refresh", this action does not occur. I have Microsoft updates automatically downloade do my computer. I have the latest MacAfee anti-virus on my computer and have run the latest scan. I have run Microsoft beta spy-ware, ad aware and yahoo's version. I am not seeing anything.
I use Windows XP, and using the Photo Show 5, whenever I want to email or make a DVD out of one of the shows, I get the following message:"We are unable to communicate with Photo Show online at this time. Check that your internet connection is active and your firewall showings are adjusted to allow Photo Show access to the internet." I have tried everything they have suggested, except the last one...MSCONFIG, then to click on start up and look more closely at the software running on your computer that may affect internet access, but I'm afraid to do that, because it might affect my computer's vulnerability.
I have lost my Home Page. Everything I enter goes blank as soon as I click off and then go back to check it. When ever I try to launch Internet Explorer, all I get is a blank page. My ISP tech said it was proably a Browser Hijacker. Dell 4700; Windows XP Home, service pack 2; Outlook Express Pentium 4
My Uncle just got a Dell computer and installed a dsl modem, and after a couple of days the computer was running super slow, and a popup appeared a few minutes after startup with a 60 second timer saying that windows was going to shut down. I thought that it was Spyware/adware so I installed and ran Adaware, and I deleted over 380 infected files, and ran AVG 7 virus scan and detected trojan viruses. I saw that his internet security settings were set at the minimum level and the firewall was disabled, so I enabled the firewall and raised the bars on the security levels, but there's still a major problem.
I have windows xp home edition oem version on compaq presario desk top with sp 2. When I try to shut down and it gets to the "windows is shutting down" it just stays there until I turn computer off with switch. I only use that computer occasionally as a back-up but would really like to fix it. The bios was last updated in 2004 and the power settings of bios are set to default so I believe it is a windows problem. The computer is loaded with pre-installed junk software from a recent restore using the restore cd. I am also open for suggestions on how to uninstall all the junk without causing other problems with the oem windows xp. The computer has 2.8 celeron and 500 mb memory. I would greatly appreciate any help
A few weeks ago, I had a malware problem, which I fixed.Since then, whenever I want to shut down, my computer will not. I have to use the big blue button on the front of the CPU to shut it down for the night. The normal cycle does not function to do so.Do I need to reload Windows to correct this, or is there another easier, faster way to diagnose and fix this problem?
I turned my computer on and after rebooting once, I pressed the F8 key and chose "disable reboot after system failure" and the blue screen said: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, then restart your computer. STOP: 0X0000007B (0xF7B70528, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) I tried running it in safe mode but it never made it to the windows log-in
Everytime I turn off my computer by clicking on "turn off computer," I receive an error message popup that states "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed." After that pop-up message, the computer freezes for about a minute and goes back to its normal format (desktop) and the computer DOES NOT TURN OFF. How do I turn off my computer without unplugging the computer? I try "ctrl+alt+del" to go to the windows task manager to "shut down" the computer but..the computer restarts again and doesnt turn off. Do I have a virus or a windows explorer problem? and how do i fix it?

My old Win98 computer has no problems with getting my email. The settings on both computers are the same. I have disabled NAV email scanning. I have no idea what to do. I like OE, and want to continue using it.
Is there any way to have a default Browser? I want every program that has links to open up in say. Firefox, I have tried setting it as my default browser in the settings option, and in "Set programs access and defaults". It works quite well... But can I get MSN Messenger to open up in that browser? When I click on my e-mails or MSN Space Etc. It opens up in Internet Explorer. Is there ANY way to open it in my default browser?
system was constantly returning "this tab has been restored and "windows has experienced a problem and needs to shut down" messsages. I couldn't open any applications. Rebooting didn't help. Restoring last good config. didn't help and restoring to an earlier date didn't work so I decided to reload from the original disk. It isn't working. It goes through the Collecting Data, Dynamic Updating and Preparing Installation but dies on Installing

I have been getting some very nice emails on Yahoo mail. They are supposed to have sound. I have sound on everything else on my computer. I have Windows XP Pro installed. I also have Stopzilla, Spyware Blaster, and Spybot. Would the problem have something to do with one of the blockers? And if so, how do I fix it? You can tell everyone that uses the computer does not like popupads. And we surely don't want to be infected with viruses and all that other bad stuff.
I want to set up another email account for my mother in law on my wife's computer. I have 8 addresses so that is not an issue.
