In life, the only way to succeed is to get your priorities straight. Well tough-luck, to all you slackers, the computer world ain't much different. Windows has setup a system controlled hiearchy which is notably called the Priority System. By increasing a programs priority, the task manager tells the system to pay more attention to it, by feeding it RAM and optimizing that program to use the system cache more effifiently. Lets explore into the wonderful world of priorities.1.)

I set mouse pointer speed (speed cursor moves over the screen) set to max (in control panel)This was fine until I upgraded from a 19" screen to a DELL 2405, this being a 24" widescreen. Now the screen is massive (I run at 1920 res) and the mouse is just too slow when in XP. Is there any way I can tweak XP to speed my mouse pointer up even more.

1. Run regedit.2. Goto: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Kazaa/Advanced3. Open MaxSearchResult4. Enter value data as 190You now have a maximum search result of 400 instead of the usual 100!Note: You can fiddle with the value data to change the max search results, but 190 is the best setting.

KaZaA, one of the most famous P2P programs tends to hog the processor, this results in the termination of the program after few seconds. This tweak can be used on systems that have the above mentioned problem. Here it is...1. Download and install KaZaA.2. Right-click on the shortcut of the program and click on "Run as...", this will prompt you to select a user to run the progam as..do not forget to select the "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity".3. Click OK and everything is back to normal..happy downloading!!Here is a final note on what I just discovered..you cannot change the options while running in the protected mode..so just run it in the normal mode, I mean the mode that hogs your CPU...change the necessary options and close down before KaZaA terminates...this should do the trick!Cheers!

Here are my results after running l2mfix, the other thread is closed so I am posting a new one.The problem I am having is that all of a sudden last week my IE took over my computer for no reason.I had walked away from my machine for about an hour, I do this often, and came back and couldn't do anything.Upon reboot, same thing, IE will not open and it will eat RAM, 100k to 200k making the entire system slow.I have used spybot and AdAware to remove all spyware and malware found. I have used RAMbooster.net also. Nothing is working. Before I go an uninstall the program I want to get to the root of the problem and then complete delete IE off my system. I am no using Opera and FireFox.

I am trying to prevent users running .exe on a certain program on their pcs.
The problem is that they have full administrative rights so even if i restrict it via group policy they will just change it back. Then i thought i could restrict them opening gpedit.msc in the registry but they will still be able to download one and change everything back. Im back to where i started really and don't know what to do.
Is there a way to amend the registry for a certain application to prevent them opening it? I just need to do something clever enough they wont be able to work out without having to change their access from administrator. Any help would be very appreciated - using Windows XP Professional

Tired of all the ads at the bottom of Kazaa, not to mention the ads Kazaa causes to pop up? Here is a tweak to end all Kazaa related ads. 1. With KaZaA closed navigate to C:WindowsSystem32AdCache 2. Delete all files within 'AdCache', leave the 'Temp' folder but make sure it is empty 3. Right click on the folder 'AdCache' & select properties 4. Navigate to the Security tab 5. In the group or user name box, select administrator, or the appropriate user (anyone who runs kazaa) 6. In the permissions box deny write access 7. Repeat for all necessary users and click 'OK' problem solved

Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

I'm running XP. I did an Ad-Aware scan and removed some tracking cookies. It also stated that I had 29 running processes. How do I find what is running to help speed up my PC, and also; which are essential? I have dial-up AOL. It's running like a horse-drawn computer. How can I get it up to at least steam-powered.

We run Comcast high speed, two computers running though a router setup. My son "opened a port" to speed up his game play. My computer now crawls. Pages take too long to load, and I now sometimes get the server error message here, server not responding. Any idea what I can do. My son seems baffled, but I know he doesn't want to sacrifice his warp speed game play.

Someone told me that my computer is running slow because I have too many programs running in the background. Could this be true and if so, how do I delete the unnecessary programs and more to the point, how do I recognize which programs are necessary and which are not?

I've been battling it out with a filth ridden computer for days, appear to be almost on top of it. It is completely clean of virii/malware/spyware I just installed SP2 on it, and since then it has been exceptionally slow to boot.Following the initial boot screen, the screen goes blank for over 2 minutes It then gets to the black screen with the grey progress bar along the bottom. It takes at least 5 minutes to get through this progress bar.

computer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.

My problems are a very long boot up (go away and make a coffee length) and also slow running, especially in opening progs for the first time ie, very slow to open Word initially, then much faster opening subsequent Word files. Even so, the laptop has slowed considerably and is often hesitant.

Why is it taking my computer 3 minutes to boot to the desktop? As you can see from my signature below, I don't have exactly a slow poke machine. All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed. This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.

I am having a really irritating problem with my computer. It happens when the computer is left on for awhile, and then suddenly the computer shuts off out of nowhere. After it shuts off, it makes a weird noise(like a high pitch then low pitch), it seems like its coming from the motherboard or something.I can't even turn it off or on using the power button so I have to pull the plug from the back of the tower and restart.

my computer had started to restart or completely shut down on its own randomly when i was using it. The computer has gotten slower over the years (its about 5 years old) and when i shut down on its own again today i decided that i would just reformat the whole thing. So I just finished doing the disk recovery thing and i transferred over some old files that i had backed up from before onto another hard drive and I was just installing a game back onto the computer
a few moments ago when the computer restarted by itself again! when it came back i started my browser and it did it again a second time. Anyway I was wondering what the hell is going on with this thing, could it be some of the files i backed up and transferred over? Im running windows XP any additional info you guys need about the PC or what i have on it ill tell you, but please I really need some help I cant have this happening over and over again.
