My PC presently has Service Pack 1. I have tried to upgrade to Service Pack 2, but I keep getting a message saying that Kernel has detected that my version of Windows XP is not an official one or something to that effect and that the upgrade will not proceed. Is there any way that I can upgrade to SP2 without performing a clean install?
View 6 RepliesI have recently upgraded to WXP Pro from Home and have since had trouble with my monitor picture, it frequently goes into a very fast scroll for a period and the fine again when using the internet.i have changed the graphics card I have changed the monitor and still the same problem. Also I am unable to connect to MSN Messenger but MSN Hotmail etc working fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to upgrade my Mom's computer from ME to XP Home and the install quits after the first reboot, with an error mesage that "HALACPI.dll cannot be found." (As an aside, if it is required for installation, shouldn't it be on the CD?!) I've located the file on the web, and placed it in the C:WINDOWS SYSTEM32hal.ddl folder (the folder was already present, but empty). I have no idea if this is where it belongs or if it will solve the problem, but I'd like to ask BEFORE I try the installation again - I do have a Ghost image of the hdd, but - getting old having to reinstall the image again and again!

She had a low battery indicator coming on and lost power, upon turning the machine back on got the dreaded error. I have tried booting in Safe mode with no luck..... have tried the boot ini rebuildwith no luck. I am going to reinstall Windows XP but thought I would ask if there is another solution. I am not to worried about the data on the drive because I have recently loaded XP on it, just wondering if there is an easier fix; or if a complete reformat will do the trick?
View 7 Replies View RelatedBought a Dell laptop with Windows XP for college last semester. She's had it for about six months now and earlier today upon startup it hung for a very long time (about 20 minutes). She rebooted it to the same results. I tried doing the only thing I knew how which was booting it in safe mode, which gave me a brief flash of a blue screen before restarting. I went to safe mode again so I could make out what the error message was before the computer restarted itself and I saw that it said KERNEL_INPAGE_DATA_ERROR. There's an error number at the bottom, but the screen flashes by so fast that I can't make it out. Anyway, it's been a few hours and startup is still hanging. I have tried booting it in the last good settings mode and nothing seems to work. I'm not very PC savvy (yes, I am a mac user :P) and my limited knowledge doesn't really help in this situation. I asked her if she had deleted any files which might cause a startup problem and she said that she hadn't. She uses the computer strictly for her iPod, printing papers, and burning the occasional CD. There are a few harmless games which have been downloaded for a long time now, but I don't think that she recently installed any software that could cause a kernel inpage data error, whatever that is. Her most recent piece of installed software is for her new phone, but even that was a week ago. When this problem started, the laptop wasn't very hot so I don't think that would be a problem either.

When I try to run windows recovery counsel, run in any of the 3 safe modes, try to repair windows with the CD, try to reformat the hard drive, try to reinstall windows, or anything else I forgot to mention I get this error message (A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. I even tried hooking it up as a slave in another computer to try and reformat the HD but for some reason the error message seems to still pop up when I turn the other computer on.

View 1 Replies View Relatedlaptop was infected with the Antivirus 2009 after surfing the web and I removed it using malwarebytes program. Then shortly after the laptop would show a blue screen, displaying "KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR" and then reboot. After the reboot, my laptop seemed to run fine, I downloaded AVG antivirus software to check if there was a boot sector virus (?) and after running the laptop for about 30 minutes, it showed the blue screen again and reboots. This kept on occuring.
Then I tried to reformat the laptop. The first time I tried to format it as FAT32, it got to about 60% before rebooting. The second time I managed to get past the formatting (FAT32 [quick])and I got onto the part of installing windows. About 20 minutes into the installation. A stop error appeared "STOP C0000218 Unknown Hard Error". Could the hard disk be corrupt
Vista was installed on my pc. I want to install XP Pro. I come to a point wherer I get a message that says oembios.bin could not be copied during the beginning og installation. Everything else get copied. Now after the installation it I get I message that preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0�80070002. I searched and get a solution on this issue as well (By expanding OEMBIOS.BI_ and move the OEMBIOS.BIN to the SYSTEM 32 folder in Safe mode).
When restarting windows the desktop background image is blue and a lot of windows programs are missing (Internet Explorer, Remote desktop and more). It doesn't let me even get into msconfig. Now, I know that the installation disc work perfect and it isn't the cd. I do have a HP_Recovery partition and tempted to format it but I also don't want to face any complications later on. But it seems that it is HP_Recovery that blocks xp instalation out, since it indicates that the laptop is locked to VISTA in BIOS.
On one of my older computers running windows xp, i am having a annoying problem.Most of the time when i try to play a video on it, it will have a little windows installer window pop up(i had the ace mega codec pack installed on but it was really bad and kept me from even playing video so i uninstalled it)it has been a while since i used that pc but now i have it plugged up to a tv and a speaker system in my room and am not in for reinstalling windows (everything else runs 100% fine very fast and smooth)

I have two computers, on one computer there is a irrepairable version of windows, and I still had some files I wanted to save. So I bought a hard drive enclosure so I could transfer the files onto my laptop, the one I'm using right now. However I used to have a password for my account, and my files were marked private. Now when I try to go into those files, it says 'Access Denied' I was wondering if there was anyway to go around this obstacle, those files are needed.

I tried to swap P2 350/512 100/2.0V S1 to P2 450/512 2.0V including heat sink and fan.After booting the screen was black with nothing on it , when I removed CPUand booted without any CPU in I had the same result.Reinstalled the P2 350 CPU and everything works fine. P2 450 was taken out from working comp.It looks like both CPU's have slot1 connection and fitted well in the socked.
