View 4 RepliesBought a Dell laptop with Windows XP for college last semester. She's had it for about six months now and earlier today upon startup it hung for a very long time (about 20 minutes). She rebooted it to the same results. I tried doing the only thing I knew how which was booting it in safe mode, which gave me a brief flash of a blue screen before restarting. I went to safe mode again so I could make out what the error message was before the computer restarted itself and I saw that it said KERNEL_INPAGE_DATA_ERROR. There's an error number at the bottom, but the screen flashes by so fast that I can't make it out. Anyway, it's been a few hours and startup is still hanging. I have tried booting it in the last good settings mode and nothing seems to work. I'm not very PC savvy (yes, I am a mac user :P) and my limited knowledge doesn't really help in this situation. I asked her if she had deleted any files which might cause a startup problem and she said that she hadn't. She uses the computer strictly for her iPod, printing papers, and burning the occasional CD. There are a few harmless games which have been downloaded for a long time now, but I don't think that she recently installed any software that could cause a kernel inpage data error, whatever that is. Her most recent piece of installed software is for her new phone, but even that was a week ago. When this problem started, the laptop wasn't very hot so I don't think that would be a problem either.

My PC presently has Service Pack 1. I have tried to upgrade to Service Pack 2, but I keep getting a message saying that Kernel has detected that my version of Windows XP is not an official one or something to that effect and that the upgrade will not proceed. Is there any way that I can upgrade to SP2 without performing a clean install?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is my wifes laptop. It is a Dell Inspiron 6400 Duo core processor with Windows XP Pro installed on it about a month ago. She had a low battery indicator coming on and lost power, upon turning the machine back on got the dreaded error. I have tried booting in Safe mode with no luck..... have tried the boot ini rebuildwith no luck. I am going to reinstall Windows XP but thought I would ask if there is another solution. I am not to worried about the data on the drive because I have recently loaded XP on it, just wondering if there is an easier fix; or if a complete reformat will do the trick?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is a HP Pavilion a524x, Pentium 4, 512mb DDR SDRAM, Intel Extreme integrated graphics, and Running Windows XP Home edition. In between the computer loading up and the windows loading screen I am getting this error message. (Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report this problem as: load needed DLLs for kernel). When I try to run windows recovery counsel, run in any of the 3 safe modes, try to repair windows with the CD, try to reformat the hard drive, try to reinstall windows, or anything else I forgot to mention I get this error message (A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA STOP: 0x00000050 (0xc47c0000, 0x00000000, 0x8081b123, 0x00000000).I have looked both of these errors up on Microsoft's website but it does not give me any helpful information on the problem since I am unable to boot in any kind of mode including all of the safe modes as previous stated. I even tried hooking it up as a slave in another computer to try and reformat the HD but for some reason the error message seems to still pop up when I turn the other computer on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup. A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.
The family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem. This is just the start of the problems. I get a whole host of errors which popup one after another.

I have Win XP Home Edition, my computer crashed last night and I had to re-install windows. I've been installing all my window updates but I keep getting an error for Service Pack 1. "The core system file (kernel) used to this computer is not a Microsoft Windows file." And Service Pack 2 has been trying to download to my D drive, which is an external hard drive.
View 1 Replies View Relatedlaptop was infected with the Antivirus 2009 after surfing the web and I removed it using malwarebytes program. Then shortly after the laptop would show a blue screen, displaying "KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR" and then reboot. After the reboot, my laptop seemed to run fine, I downloaded AVG antivirus software to check if there was a boot sector virus (?) and after running the laptop for about 30 minutes, it showed the blue screen again and reboots. This kept on occuring.
Then I tried to reformat the laptop. The first time I tried to format it as FAT32, it got to about 60% before rebooting. The second time I managed to get past the formatting (FAT32 [quick])and I got onto the part of installing windows. About 20 minutes into the installation. A stop error appeared "STOP C0000218 Unknown Hard Error". Could the hard disk be corrupt
I had a bad HDD failure which corrupted part of my WinXP OS with the result that I am unable to boot into Windows. I have reloaded Windows on another HDD and I will be able to recover most of my data from backups. However, there is still some recent data on the bad disk which I am frantic to recover. I am able to find the "Documents and Settings" folder where I believe the "Outlook Express" data is held
I am unable to get into the folder as my username on the computer was passworded (the password is known). Neither am I allowed to copy the folder to my new drive. I cannot access the folder from my new OS even when I password myself with the same username / password. I have attempted to repair the bad drive's copy of Windows but that wasn't successful. I don't want to replace the bad copy with a fresh as this would reformat the drive taking with it the folder I want (and can't copy). Any work on the folder would need to be on the bad drive, it seems. I have run out of ideas.
Can I install XP on a hard drive which has only one partition with data without destroying the data?

View 1 Replies View Related.dll errors. Not a single one in particular. Random ones. Two today were mshtml.dll and ietutil.dll. Microsoft has some, but not for an XP computer. I do not know anymore if it is a service pack 2 or 3 since my brother in law took our Compaq computer and made one on his own with old and new parts. What are .dll and why do these errors keep popping up.

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen SP3 first came out, I jumped at the opportunity to update my perfectly running smooth computer with SP3 for windows. As soon as I did install SP3, nothing seemed to work correctly anymore and I had to end up reformatting my computer. It destroyed my perfectly good up to date computer. Yes I have a genuine copy of Windows XP if that's what you were about to say. So my question is, did anyone else every have a problem with SP3, are their known issues, and should I risk installing it again? I have always believed in if its not broke, then dont fix it. Well, sometimes my high hopes and curiosity of updating will improve performance from what it already is, gets me in trouble sometimes. Let me know guys. I will hold off for a bit.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Win 2000. My computer will restart (no hanging even, just turn off and back on) while I'm looking at flash media on the net, using photo/art programs, or viewing a word document with pictures in it. Mostly media related things. It also crashes for running defrag or disk cleanup.
When it restarts it's a blue screen stop error. I don't recall what it said exactly, but it's not difficult to get it back. If I keep restarting, I'll keep getting that error. If I wait a minute or so and then restart, it'll come on correctly.
Win 2000 is on D and Win 98 is on C. When 2000 crashes it does something to C because then 98 won't start untill 2000 comes on and repairs the C drive. But now 98 won't come on at all. If I turn on 98 I get an error, so then I'll try 2000 but it won't start for a while after 98 crashes. I don't see why crashes on D affect C and vice versa.
That probably wasn't enough to tell what's wrong.what I should do?
The procedure entry point DdEntry1 could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll
That's the error message I'm getting. I get it from the ATI and XFire. Also, I can't play certain games anymore, because they are prompting me to download dx9.0c
who has gone thru this ga-ga & fixed them so they stop ?

View 13 Replies View Related1---I have just WAYYYYY to many pop-ups about 6-8 an hour, even on idle computer.
2---It is so slow. When minimizing a page, I watch it close from the top of the screen to the bottom and that takes 15 seconds, and sometimes my icons are missing when it finally fully minimizes.
3---After booting up it takes me a good 5 minutes before the mouse's "time-sand" icon to dissappear, therefore not letting me do anything with the computer right away.
4--Sometimes when using websites like "google" or "yahoo" from internet explorer, there is a big delay from when I type in the words, and those words to appear on the screen.
5---Streaming movies from websites are rarely synchronized with the sound and the picture on the screen, something that none of my friends have.
6--I revently purchased an external hard drive, and ever since doing that a message comes up within seconds of turning on my computer that reads something along the lines of "Unkown Devise, hit any key" then it boots up normally (note: The slowness of the computer has happened way before the external harddrive, and purchased it with hopes that would cure some of the problems)
