my pc is getting slower. this is something that has been going on for ages. from when i first turn on the pc it takes about five minutes before everything is loaded and ready to use. then when i click something on the desktop it takes about another 40-60 seconds before any thing happens. this applies to online and offline things. whilst using my pc it is slow opening pages etc. often the cpu is at 100%. i have spybot s&d, avg anti virus, zone alarm firewall, lavasoft ad-aware, easy cleaner, cclener, disk keeper pro, avast anti virus, i have checked that i have the latest bios. my processor is a p4 2.6ghz. i have 1024mb ram. any suggestions what i need to do.
I went through several pages of 100% CPU usage threads but did come across anything that seemed relevant to this particular problem. I am attempting to help my Pastors Dell notebook. It is running XP. His wife said that it locks up when she tries to access the Internet. They have two accounts set up on it. After bringing it home to see if I could figure it out I immediately noticed that her account (Sylvia) was extremely slow. I started Task Manager and it showed that CPU usage was at a constant 100% with the only foreground process being Task Manager. The other account (Ted) was the original account and when logging on to it the CPU usage is about 5% or so (with an occasional momentary spike of up to about 50%) with the only foreground process being the Task Manager. I set up an account, James, and with no customization done to this account and only the Task Manager running in the foreground the CPU is at a constant 100%. The roess Explorer log from both Ted and James is here: http://luannsplace.com/James/Computer/ProcessExplorerResults.html A system inventory using Belarc Advisor is here: I used Windows Update and it said that all necessary updates were in place. If anyone could steer me in the right direction to get this problem corrected we would greatly appreciate it. What is puzzling is that the 100% CPU usage is only on accounts created after the original account (Ted) was created.
I've never been overly impressed with the speed but over the months it has got slower and slower and is now virtually unusable unless you've got hours to waste. It takes forever to load up, forever to open a program and forever to complete a task. Ask it to open two programs and you can just forget it.
I Have a 2yr old Dell Dimension 4550 with win xp, pentium 2.4g processor, 256meg ram, 60gig hd, cd burner,& dvd rom. It got to a point it would take 20 min. to boot up, then run at a snails pace. I ran spybot, adaware, and McAfee virus scan and no change. I ran hijack this and found no problems there. I installed new hd and ide cable and fresh install of xp and no change. from there I changed out the ram and no change. I disconected all the cd, dvd, floppy, removed the modem, sound card, reinstalled xp with no drivers for the cards, still no change. At this point I replaced the power supply, removed from another running computer. Each time I made a change I checked in task manager and found the CPU usage to be 20 to 30% with no programs running. the tasks that are consuming the CPU are the taskmgr.exe and explorer.exe. at this point I even upgraded the bios and still no change. Does anyone have any other ideas.
Why is it that the majority of the time spent booting up is reported as idle time when tracing the boot process with Bootvis? Is it possible to reduce or eliminate this idle time?
All of a sudden I am unable to play music that's on my computer, and I can't play video files. I believe the problem has something to do with RAM usage, but I don't know what to do about it. Everything else seems to be working OK. The only recent change I've made is that I installed the Kaspersky Security System -- maybe it blocks video and music.
My friend, who has given a Dell Optiplex GX240 running Win2K Pro. 512MB RAM To help her out, I got rid of porn, viruses, and spyware using: Ad-Aware, AVG spyware and AV free versions, Trend Micro House Call, Spybot I checked the task manager, and has constant 100% CPU usage, avg memory usage The system runs, but apps open slow, so I tried some freeware reg cleaners: CCleaner, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, Wise Registry cleaner.
I recently installed a winTV card in my computer, ever since that I have noticed that when I press ctrl, alt and delete, the cpu usage appears to be 100% full whenever I try to open an mpeg file I have recorded from the TV card. it is a pentium 4 2.8 ghz processor.
I'm running XP pro SP2. I have a gig of ram and my mother board is an Intel D101GGC. My CPU is Intel Pentium D 920.
If I use Windows Explorer to go deeper than the first level of any tree, CPU usage goes to 100% and stays there. I've disabled System Restore because it wouldn't let me go back in time anyway and this program is a known resource gobbler. Didn't help. I've attached a hijackthis logfile to see if anyone recognizes a Trojan, etc. I would appreciate any help at all.
Whenever I used to send photos by e-mail (via outlook express) I'd get a little box asking if i would like to reduce photo size (which i always did.) lately, this box stopped appearing. how do i get this option back?
My CPU Usage always shows 100% and my system is getting very slow although I have not installed any big software and have strong antivirus (symantec) whose definition files are updated .So , why is it happening?
Hello Folks. how can I reduce the size of icons at the moment they are rather large I have tried help and support but there is no help there?. I have also tried display.
I would like to create a script of some sort that can be run by a regular user and that can reduce the sound acceleration like in the Sound tab of dxdiag. An older game my kids run needs lower acceleration to function properly. A second script to reset it would be helpful too. I don't want to give my kids admin priv or have to set it myself before and after each gaming session.
on my PC cidamon.exe is running twice & many other programs which i am not aware are also running as shown in task manger. The count is 40 at the moment when the PC is just booted.Ideally speaking we do not need to plug & play all the time with device similary we are not doing many things for which windows is ready in default mode .Can we not reduce this payload on windows ?
Can anyone give me the steps to reduce all the clutter I have on my PC down to ONE edition of Windows XP (Prof) and get rid of all the other stuff? The situation on one of my computers (my wife's) is that there are several (3 anyway) editions/installations of WinXP Home on this computer and, if left to boot up on its own will go to the top one on the list, which is NOT the edition required, and of course it asks for Activation and all that stuff, which, when the correct edition is loaded, is not necessary. I would like to eliminate all but the second edition noted, safely and permanently. How do I go about this safely?
I have Windows XP 2000, Dell Demension 2400 PC, I want to put pictures on websites, but my pictures (KB) are to large. How do I reduce them so I can post?
I officially give up my stubborn dogged quest to learn, comprehend, and apply everything I should know about what's running on my PC - what each process does, what program(s) it/they originate in, what other services depend upon them, or whether or not I'll be able to brush my teeth if it/they isn't/aren't running. I don't want to know that rolling back a certain driver or manually installing a .dll file will enable some non-essential process to convert anti-aliased vector lines to maximized battery life, or how some helper file will allow QuickTime to covertly play the contents of Huge Jackman's iPod on my Fisher Price boom box. I concede that I'm incapable of grasping neither the logic (if there is any) nor the specifics relative to the phenomena that is computer science.
Im on my nana computer and she told me her computer keeps crashing. I will provide HJT logs if requested.but im on my nana's computer for 1 day.My nana's computer currently got System Mechanic Pro 6 to keep system okay unit i'm away.
I've tried Mozilla, without much success - my query is how to quickly reduce the size of a batch of large photo files to one more acceptable for email using Thunderbird? I'm using Win XP Pro.I currently have to use Photoshop and use an Automated Batch process I created - cumbersome, time consuming, but effective!
I have 500 megs of RAM and each of my 6 logical drives indicate that the system has allocated 785 megs to the pagefile. That is huge. I can't imagine why any drive would need that much, and since I am runing out of space on some drives I would like to drastically reduce the size of the files - maybe to 300 megs. Would that be OK, or would it be unadvisable.
can i create folders to put specific types of progs inside them as my all programs from the start menu is too long and needs tidying up i.e put photographic applications all together in one folder.
I just formated my pc and installed windows xp pro and sp2 and the cpu usage was always under 20% now its always over 50%-60% with i installed the programs i needed. before I formated it was the same with high cpu usage but i installed sp2 and the cpu usage went under 10% but few weeks later it went back up, so i formated.
CPU usage is constantly at 100%. It started acting up a couple of months ago and I uninstalled all the software that I had recently downloaded (games etc) but still have this problem. I think this is also the reason everything just freezes suddenly for a good 2-3 minutes causing me to bang my head against the nearest hard object.Regarding this, in Task Manager --> Processes --> sort by CPU: CMD.exe is constantly using 65-85(keeps on changing) followed by csrss.exe at around 20-30
