View 17 Replies View RelatedI have 500 megs of RAM and each of my 6 logical drives indicate that the
system has allocated 785 megs to the pagefile. That is huge. I can't
imagine why any drive would need that much, and since I am runing out of
space on some drives I would like to drastically reduce the size of the
files - maybe to 300 megs. Would that be OK, or would it be unadvisable.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSome time ago, I must have inadvertently "pushed a button" and the page size for Internet Explorer changed from "normal" to "magnified". I can't figure out how to change it back. Going into control panel and changing the screen resolution size has absolutely no effect. (I never re-adjusted the screen size anyway). It's so annoying to have to constantly work the page bars up and down, back and forth! I think the same thing has happened to AOL.

I tried the trick used in WIN me of stretching the corners of the screen to make it full size, but the next time it does not come up full size. I don't believe it did this when I first started using WIN XP, but with many program additions, it just started to happen. My PC is a COMPAQ with 2.5 Celeron. PC is only 4 months old.

Less than than 8 Gigs I am aware of.But more importantly, what Min and Max should the settings be for the PagFile. Perhaps let the system decide? If I do set a PagFile on the OS partition I am considering 2MB - 200Mb to generate a kernel dump report. Note: Although I will have an Image of OS If the issue at hand is small enough I amy gain some experience in trying to fix it using the reports.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running 2 gig of ram on a 160 gig harddrive Presario. I don't usually keep over 3 windows open at any given time. I know Windows suggests 1-1/2 times ram for page file size, but that seems to slow the start-up. What is the minimum I can get away with and be safe? Or do I really need a page file? any input is helpful.
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently, as the available free space on my 60 gigs hard drive dropped to 3 gigs, I started getting an error message at bootup that said that the virtual memory page was too low or zero along with intructions on how to change it in the Control Panel.I have since changed hard drives, installing a 100 gig drive in my HP Pavillion laptop. I have changed the virtual memory setting in the control planel from "Let Windows Manage Memory" to setting actual limits. It is currently set to 2048 megs. Nothing I do will eliminate the error message at bootup. While the responsiveness of the computer was very slow when I had the nearly full drive, it seems to have returned to normal with the new, large hard drive.

It got to a point it would take 20 min. to boot up, then run at a snails pace. I ran spybot, adaware, and McAfee virus scan and no change. I ran hijack this and found no problems there. I installed new hd and ide cable and fresh install of xp and no change. from there I changed out the ram and no change. I disconected all the cd, dvd, floppy, removed the modem, sound card, reinstalled xp with no drivers for the cards, still no change. At this point I replaced the power supply, removed from another running computer. Each time I made a change I checked in task manager and found the CPU usage to be 20 to 30% with no programs running. the tasks that are consuming the CPU are the taskmgr.exe and explorer.exe. at this point I even upgraded the bios and still no change. Does anyone have any other ideas.
