Unable To Install Any New Hardware With The Drivers That Come?
Jan 8, 2009
Can not install any new hardware with the drivers that come! I have never seen this and do not know which way to go. I have updated XP Home to XP Pro. I have gone through doing and HP restore (Since it is and HP box) And when you even point the hardware install to the driver that came with the (SCSI card, Net Card) it will tell you there is nothing there for this hardware.
HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.
I just purchased a used Dell Dimension 4700, it came without the OS installed or the resource cd with all the drivers. I installed the OS this afternoon, but in the device manager serveral yellow ? came up. The flags are listed for the ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, PCI modem, SM Bus controller, unknown device, and the video controller (vga compatible).
I've got an Intel DG33FB motherboard, Intel E8400 CPU and SATA hard drive and I dual-boot with gentoo linux.
So basically, the last time I installed XP, I had to slipstream the AHCI drivers as well as SP2 into an image of an XP CD, then burn it and install from that disc. When I did it last time I had a handy little utility that would automatically make the required changes to the .iso and put all the files in the right spots, etc.
I recently was forced to reformat my boot drive (I use Windows Xp Home Edition). I have a second hard drive, which I had mirrored my OS. The drive is my new boot drive, but I have noticed I can not install drivers anymore, despite the fact my user profile shows as having admin rights.
I'm running on Windows XP and I'm unable to install my mobo drivers. It's an Asus A8N-E. When I try to install them directly from the CD, it shows the installation completing, and then a window pops up displaying only "1155:". I tried downloading the latest drivers from both the nVidia website and the Asus website, and neither work. When they are installed, Windows will attempt to load, and then blue screen and restart.
On my Acer TravelMate 2480, I reformatted it and reinstalled Windows XP. There is not wireless icon. I went to the Acer webpage and downloaded the drivers I guessed I might need. When I try to update drivers on the Acer, and choose my flash drive stick, the computer doesn't see any drivers on the flash drive. I will probably end up having to pay to have the whole thing redone the right way
I'm not having any problems with the audio itself, but I just reinstalled XP and before when I would press the volume up/down buttons at the top of the laptop a green bar/scale thing would come up on screen to show me how high/low my volume was. After reinstalling the audio drivers from IBMs website it does not do this anymore
I have a Sony RS-220 desktop w/ XP home w/ SP2 & all updates since that's unable to auto install generic device drivers. I discovered this when I tried plugging in a couple different USB flash drives & it would just stop at the found new hardware wizard. Running the wizard w/ "install the software automatically" & also enabling "also search windows updates" returns unable to find device driver. The USB flash drive was the only bang in device manager. I uninstalled the usb controllers, rebooted and amazingly the controllers wouldn't auto reinstall. Suspecting the behavior extended to more then just USBs/the chipset I uninstalled some unneeded devices (56k modem & 1394) & they also wouldn't auto reinstall.
I went to the sony website & strangely Sony doesn't list the chipset available for download w/ the other drivers I downloaded the chipset direct from intel & installed it but that didn't work either. I've tried many other things to no avail. Malware scans (spybot, AVG AV, rootkitrevealer)...all came up clean. I've tried a new admin user profile, cCleaner registry cleanup, resetting registry permissions w/ subinACL, setting related windows services to automatic, checkdisk /r. Another thing I thought about doing was uninstalling the PCI controller, but I think I recall that can get ugly. Ultimately the only thing that allowed me to get my usb controllers, usb hubs, modem, 1394, & usb drive working was to "install from a list or specific location" & "include this location in the search" C:WINDOWSinf. Does anybody have any idea how I can restore the functionality of generic drivers auto installing & not having to point to an INF directory? Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Trying to install Linksys ethernet adapter and router. After searching for the drive, I get an error message, "Can't find software." Trying to install HP scanner, I get an error message, "Can't find <some> dll.", even though the install CD is opened.
I am having a driver problem, which i find to be very weird. I cannot install, or uninstall a driver, nor can i disable on from device manager. When i try to do any of these I get either a "run DLL as an App has enountered a problem and needs to close" or if trying to do something from device manager, I get Microsoft Management Console has enountered a problem and needs to close. In the first case I believe the file was sysag.api in the second the file causing an error is mmc.exe.
I purchased a SIIG PCI firmware adapter. It has no drivers and says that it will use Win XP drivers. Well I installed the board and booted the pc, Win XP recognized the hardware but could not find any drivers. I tried unplugging it manually, installing it in another card slot with no luck. I took it back to my pc dealer and he plugged it in his system and had no problems. I decide to try another brand, an IO Gear GIC1394.
Alrighty everyone, I believe there have been a few posts about this in other forums ect.. But I would like to here this from the experts here, and personal experiences. I have a Giga-byte K8NXP-SLI motherboard (yeah I know, I realize my mistake now...), and this board has an Nforce 4 SLI chipset. I do use the SATA-II/SATA-3G connection on the board, I run two 300GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10 SATA drives. I have installed the Nforce 4 SATA-Floppy F6 drivers on the XP install and now have not nearly as many issues as before with this chipset
I recently went through a "Blond Moment". I decided I was going to update my SIS IDE Driver on my computer. I downloaded the newest drivers from my motherboard manufacturer, saved them to file in the C: drive Now, here is the blond moment: I uninstalled the old sis IDE driver (rather than changing it to standard IDE driver) and it prompted me to reboot on completion.(Blond again) I clicked yes, I meant to install the new driver before doing this, but I didn't read it right so the computer rebooted. Now on boot up I get a BSOD. It basically asks me to check my hard drive (which I know is good, its new) or reinstall the IDE drivers (which I don't know how to do outside windows) or run a virus scan (done) to be sure that isn't causing the error.I went into recovery console with hopes to restore the SIS or standard IDE Driver, but Im lost, and don't know how to do that exactly. Is there anyone who knows how to install these drivers (remember I cant boot to windows safe or otherwise)OR Should I just do a repair install and will that even fix this dumb thing Ive done?
How do you find out what correct drivers to use on your computer?? I recently had a driver issue and was trying to upgrade my Nvidia drivers which I removed via the add/remove program but I'm now unable to get the correct version for my computer. I downloaded NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 [Display adapter] but everything (icons, fonts, etc) comes out miniaturized now!!!
I have windows xp home and sometimes windows will just randomly forget drives that I have installed and I have to install them again. This dose not happen on my other pc why and how can I stop it on this pc?
When i first got my computer the drive worked fine, but since the first time i opened it, It stopped working. Anyway I found the problem (the cable had been damaged) and now the computer can see it but cant find any drivers for it.Under drive properties it says the drivers are not installed code 28 I dont know the manufacturer of it either, the properties just say standard CD-ROM Drive
I'm using a compaq CQ60-224NR link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...s&dlc=en&lc=en it came with vista but after many frustrations I went with XP I added RAM (4GB insted of 3GB) so I wanted the 64 bit version everything was fine untill an update made the sound terrible I tried to roll back the driver but I did not back it up (Dou!) well now I have no sound and I cannot find a driver. I know I was maybe getting into troble with XP 64 (pro sp2) I tried driver genius and driver finder (hope the money back is true) both failed
I use two hard drives, a smaller one that runs XP and a larger one for primarily storage. I replaced the storage drive...this had been the "first" drive and was labeled c: while the one running XP was labeled d:I installed the new drive and rebooted. In the process, the volume labels flipped: the primary drive became c: and the storage drive becoming d: This has thrown Windows into a world of confusion and all previously installed programs show up as uninstalled. They are still there in "program files" but many of them refuse to open, reporting not being able to find .dll files which I can search for and find on the computer.
When the storm died down I booted the computer up and it made a series of "ca-click, ca-click" (that's pretty much exactly what it sounded like, too) noises. It ran slowly, but it managed to boot up. I ran all my programs normally, including logging into World of Warcraft. I got disconnect from the server (DSL hiccup, I think) and went to log back in. There's a bug in the game that sometimes causes computers to freeze on re-logging automatically into an instance. I could still hear ventrilo, but the monitor was frozen.
I told people I'd brb and pressed the power button. It rebooted and this time it made a LOT more clicking noises and paused at a black screen after the dell logo went away. After a few minutes it told me that one of my sys.dll files was missing and I needed to put in the windows disc and repair. Every time I subsequently restarted, a different file was supposedly missing. Sometimes it was NSFW and sometimes it was something else.
I've installed Windows 2000 Pro on a laptop computer from Fujitsu Siemens (from year 2000). I am using a Swedish version, so I guess it won't help if I repeat the error-message I get when I am trying to hibernate the computer. However, when I choose to hibernate, the screen flickers and then throws a error-message saying that the system is unable to hibernate because of a driver named "Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100)". I've been trying to change this driver to other versions and different alternative drivers, but I haven't succeeded. Another strange thing is that after a reboot I am able to hibernate, but right after that if I try to hibernate again I'll get that message.
I'm gonna reformat my winxp in my 160GB hard drive and it's my first time to do it. Should I install these drivers? My mobo is MSI G31M3 and i downloaded these drivers from MSI website.I know I need these drivers Realtek High Definition Audio Driver Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers Not sure about these.Intel INF Drivers for 3/4/5 Chipsets Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver Intel 945G Series VGA Drivers Intel ICH7R/ICH8R SATA RAID Driver (For floppy driver) (I dont have a floppy drive so I probably don't need this) Intel IAA RAID Edition for ICH7R
ok i am trying to install drivers for my scanner. tech support from the scanner manufacturer said i need to delete the twain*.dll and twunk*.dll files. i try deleteing them and the return without me doing anything. is there a way to permently delete them so i can install the new ones? if need more info i will supply. if this is a security issue instead of xp i will post there but thought i would try here first.
I got a new SATA 320 GB hard drive today, since my other one died. I setup the drivers for it with help of the Windows XP disc, and start to install Windows.
I get to the part where I enter the product key, and I get a prompt that it is invalid. I have entered the key at least 40 times to make sure I haven't mistyped it. I have looked at the Windows Support page and search around
My granddads computer was infected up the kaboose with trojans, viruses and stuff from not having SP 1 or 2 on it.I've put on Avast Anti-Virus, Zone Alarm, Ad-Aware, Hijack This, SP2, ran all the updates and everything else I could think of to clean down the system and it seemed to do the trick. Then I noticed the GFX card (Nvidia 5700) and Sound card (Soundblaster Live) werent installed correctly so I downloaded the latest drivers for each. When I install the GFX drivers the card works but when I restart the machine its like the drivers were never installed. I go into computer management the device list says "This device cannot start".
i am new to this forum, but i have looked everywhere and i have a problem i can't seem to find the answear to. I reformated my harddrive, it is a seagate baracuda 160gb drive. I have it hooked up by raid i think. Anyways when i boot my computer it sees that i have a harddrive, but when i go to load windows it doesnt find it. I heard i need to install drivers for it, but i dont know which ones and where to get them from.
I want to update my video card drivers because my video card is acting up and I want to see if new drivers will fix it.I printed out the instructions from ATI's site and followed it exactly. I used Add/Remove Programs and clicked on the ATI Software Uninstall Utility. I rebooted the computer. I went into Safe Mode. I tried to install the drivers.Upon doing this, every time I run the setup to install the new drivers, I get this error message:"INF Error: Video Driver Not Found" This happens if I try to install the latest Catalyst version. This happens if I try to install an older Catalyst version. This even happens if I try to reinstall the drivers that I just had (it installed fine before so why is the 5.11s giving me that error now)!

I have a Dell Dimension 5150, i've just done a re-install of XP as I was sick of it playing up - something was wrong but I couldn't figure it out. Anyway, Now I can't get anything to work cause I have no drivers, I mainly need the ethernet driver. Dell's website has NOTHING on it, there is only 1 download for this machine and it is for some stupid dell application. No drivers. I've looked all over the net
