Turn On Start Boot - Splash Screen Blue Starting
Jul 3, 2008
Turn the computer on, it starts to boot, I see the compaq splash screen then the blue windows is starting. Then it just restarts the process over. I have tried to repair windows: The F8 to last known good config & F8 safe and it just restarts from both of those as well. Win XP SP3 Currently doing this: You can boot from the cd and press R to go to the recovery console. Your best bet is to try running Checkdisk. So once in the recovery console, type chkdsk /r and press enter. It could take from 20 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the repairs it needs to make

I have been experiencing intermittent bootup problems with Windows XP. When this happens, the XP splash screen appears(blue line scrolling) and then monitor loses signal and reboot occurs. This can cycle several times, even if I choose the option of starting Windows with last known configuration that worked. It always eventually loads and reports that Windows experienced a serious problem.

I'm building a new computer here, and i'm using a previously owned mobo. I'm having an issue getting pass the BIOS spalsh screen and into the boot menu so i could bootup and install windows. I have no beeps at all. every component of this computer is brand new except for the motherboard. I try to go into the setup and i get the dialogue, "Entering Setup..." but it just stays frozen like that.
I know i have to Clear CMOS and i removed the CMOS battery for almost 3 days and nothing at all. i cannot find the CMOS jumper. i see a jumper near the CMOS battery but it isnt labeled clr cmos. i removed it and put it on the 2nd and 3rd pin and the machine doesnt even turn on, but when i locate it back to the 1st and 2nd pin, it turns on perfectly fine, but i still cannot get past the startup screen
the screen i cannot get past looks similar to the image below.

When i turn on,first Windows screen appears, then a blue screen blinks, then hp screen, then a blank page with cursor on the top left, then a screen with the message"we apologise for the inconvinience but Windows did not start successfully.there was a hardware or software problem.I tried to run it in Safe mode, Windows normally, last known configuration but no luck......Then someone suggested to Get into the Recovery Console by making a Recovery CD with ISO image but the machine is not responding to any of it.Is it with CD/DVD ROM drive or any major hardware problem???...I ran a self hard drive test and it seemed fine

i'm having to boot into windows xp. on power up sytem goes through the windows xp splash screen (with progress bar) and then instead of login prompt it goes just into the blue screen with moveable mouse pointer arrow.
issue seems to be similar to:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...o-startup.html
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...p-problem.html
but recommended solutions didn't help so far.
symptoms just before issue - was not able to run use some system features - utility to turn off the display, utility to bring up battery info - everything was working fine before this
what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

This morning when I booted up, I got a blue screen that had a message telling me something about memory (I think, was still asleep). it told me to start in safe mode.I did that then turned off. When it started back up it was in the advanced options window. I selected "Start normal mode" I have tried to get it to do it again so I could get the codes but cant. I know it showed many partitions plus the message and codes. I am using XP Home with my Dell Dimension desk top. It uses a Celeron 2.53 GHz and 512 Ram. Thank You for any suggestions. Also I delete temp regulary and defrag every week or so but don't know anything other than that as far as maintaining system.

A friend of mine has a year old computer 2.4ghz running XP Pro.Recently the computer had gotten slower and slower and had lots of Popups. Sypbot found 127 bogus things going on.It could not clear all of them.We went into control panel and removed programs and took out a bunch of things that were not operating related programs.Computer was rebooted multiple times. Finally the computer just hangs when it gets to the blue XP screen, and will sit there for hours until rebooted.I have tried ever mode of Safe Mode to boot and I get the same blue XP screen. The mouse can still be moved around.I cannot boot from the CD rom with the XP disks and do not have bootable floppies. I cannot get into the setup screen to change the order of boot.Since this computer was a gift to the person, we do not know the administrator password.

I have a Windows XP Professional Edition and i incurred a spyware virus on my PC, so i made a dumb decision by running MSCONFIG and changing my SAFEBOOT option, I did this because previously I couldn't even get into Safe Mode, it would load the files on the screen.

I started up my system today and on the windows splash screen (the page on start up that shoes the WINXP logo and the blue scrolling bar below) The blue scrolling bar was stuck in one place and stayed there for a good 2 hours so I restarted and was greeted by the infamous ?Disk boot failure, Insert a system disk and press enter?. So I turned off my system and took the side of the case of and disconnected the SATA cable from the hard drive and then the power cable from the hard drive as well, connected them back up powered the system back up and I am now back on the windows splash screen. With the scrolling blue bar below the WINXP logo stopping and starting randomly now and again. I am going to leave it for 2 hours see if it recovers its self, anyone got any ideas if this does not work what to do? I have my windows XP disk and serial number so I guess its fresh install? Still what could have caused this as it?s happened twice now!!!! Could it be the SATA drivers I have all the driver installed by a shop do I need to install SATA driver for the HD or not could the drive be faulty?

I have no specific reason pertaining to the problem but... about 2 months ago I noticed that just after the splash screen disappears, my desktop comes up completely blank, for (and I've timed this again and again) 84 seconds. With no apparent reason. After which the start menu appears along with my shortcuts and my lappy is as fast as ever!! I can confirm the following (and regular) maintenance activities performed before the problem.
My hard drive and Regisrty were both completely defragged and happy, I performed regular SpyBot, Ad Aware, Mcafee scans for the obvious, I ran Tune Up Utilities to remove all of my invalid reg entries, CCleaner for general crap, My system was optimised with PC Booster, as far as I was aware my machine was running sweet as a nut... It wasn't as if any of the mentioned actions were run close to the issue arising. It just happened one day.........

I have tried looking for a solution on the web for this and I can’t seem to find anything that quite matches my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 2500 which is a few years old. I have not recently installed anything new onto it or added new hardware or anything, but the other day i switched it on and it appeard to be starting up fine. The Dell screen comes up, the Windows startup splash screen appears then the screen goes blank. The laptop continues to load properly (i think) as you can hear the start up music and everything loading up, but the screen is blank, (tho the colour of it down change to a slight lighter shade of black!).
I have tried outputting to a different monitor - which does exactly the same as the laptop screen - displaying the start-up stuff then blank screen before the login bit. When i start up the laptop in safe mode and VGA mode it works fine. I have tried changin the resolution in these modes to a lower one 600x800 (the refesh rate is set to 60) but this does not solve the problem. I have installed all recommended XP updates, scanned for viruses and spyware but there’s nothing there, tried to use the troubleshooting tools in Help and Support but not really sure what imdoing and it says everything is fine! sort of hardware failure with my graphics card maybe?! Dont know much about that sort of thing.

I am working on a Dell Optiplex GX270 that will not boot past the splash screen in normal mode, nor will it go into safe mode. I'm not getting any errors, just a very faint splash screen. So far I've tried (with no success):
1) changing power supplies
2) put in a new video card
3) put in a different hard drive with a fresh Windows XP install
4) different memory

I'm working on a Compaq Deskpro EN500 running Windows XP Professional SP2 (with all patches and updates), current antivirus and antispyware, and firewall. The system was working fine, user was online browsing the web when the system froze. The mouse froze, etc. Start button could not be accessed. The user shut down the system with the power button. When he turned it back on, he was greeted with the standard Microsoft 'an error has occured' screen' and given the choices of Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good
Start Windows Normally
When I choose any of these, I can get as far as the Windows XP splash screen and then the system seizes. I can get into the Windows Recovery Console. I have run a CHKDSK /P /R and a FIXBOOT. CHKDSK returns no errors. I'm not sure what to try next short of a rebuild.

When trying to start XP Media Center 2005 in safe mode, it completes loading Mups.sys, the screen goes blank and flickers slightly like it's changing video modes, and i get a "BSOD"/blue screen (photo attached)The computer boots normally in XP when booted normally, and in Kubuntu 7.04/Feisty and Kubuntu 7.10/ Gutsy when booted normally and in recovery mode.I suspect the problem may have to do with the failed install of the Netscape Activex Wrapper Plugin from buzzen.com which (supposedly) lets Gecko-based browsers run Activex scripts intended for IE7, but I'm not sure as I haven't used safe mode in some time

Wanted to skip the Login screen on my Windows XP computer and login to my account automatically, so my computer would boot faster. I used this ( http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/welskip.php ) guide. So, i went to Start > Run > I entered in "control userpasswords2" and hit "OK" > I unchecked the box which states "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" and applied the setting > The computer then requested the username and password of the account I wished to automatically login. This is where I think I messed up. By default, the username box is filled in with "Administrator" and since I am the administrator I did not change the username to "Ben" (which is what my accounts name is) and I left the username box filled with "Administrator". Also, I left the password blank (this is because I have no password). Now when I try to start up my computer I am stuck on the blue screen stating "Starting Up" and I never get to my desktop. How do I fix this (meaning, how do I change this setting back)? Can I boot my computer into safe mode and then change the setting back, or is there an easier way to fix this?

Toshiba Satellite running on windows XP
When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get
STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x83306788, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)
I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD

when I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."
You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
Any ideas?

Encountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

XP won't get beyond a 'blue screen' since I attempted to update the IDE ATA / ATAPI Controller drivers. The update went as planned, until I selected the best version. XP then restarted my computer and a 'blue screen' appears refering to 'atapi.sys' as being the problem.I can't get XP started in any form of Safe Mode by accessing 'F8' during startup. The only part accessible is the Bios.
