View 4 RepliesI seem to have run into some bad luck with my computer.I use this computer for school as I'm a year 8 student. I was given a TOSHIBA Portege M700 Tablet computer. It has a sticker on it saying windows vista basic but my school puts xp on all the computers.
My laptop is running Windows XP pro tablet pc edition 2005 SP2. Only recently has my computer been irresponsive and crashed. My computer has a Intel centrino vPro proccessor, I'm pretty sure it's 1.94 Ghz. My laptop also has 1GB of ram. The explorer.exe process stopping responding. The system freezing. The system failing to complete a task The system not responding after only 6 minutes of inactivity Internet explorer not working.
I am having a VERY odd issue with Windows XP Pro and Tablet PC Edition. I have been following Microsoft's Single-Image Deployment Supplemental Guide which discusses single-image deployment and how to use this process to deploy Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 in your organization while using your existing Windows XP Professional image.I followed the article to a T and imported all the Tablet PC components in the Sysprep directory and then re-syspreped the box. At first once mini-setup finished the system would lock up on the Windows XP splash screen about the 3rd time the progress bar cycled through.

I plugged in my pen tablet to use it as a mouse instead, and noticed the tablet driver stopped functioning too (I can still use it as a mouse, but it doesn't work as well without the driver). I then tried to connect to the internet to diagnose the problem, but the net isn't working. I restarted my router and modem, but no progress.

Plus my Tablet side of things hasn't worked in a long time and I was hoping the clean install would fix that. But my recovery DVD isn't working (could be user error). I DO have apps that I need to keep and I think I've backed them up to my external HD correctly.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI recently received a laptop that someone needs me to fix. The problem is that it seems at some point that some kind of update was interrupted during the process and the system will not load unless a windows xp professional edition disk is inserted to complete the update. I also cannot get it to start in safe mode. Unfortunately, I only have a home edition disk. Can I reformat XP pro with a home edition disk? If not, are there any other options?

View 10 Replies View RelatedRecently I had a bout with Trojans (Vundo in particular) and spyware. The machine just kept rebooting. Installed XP on another partition in order to go out to the web and figure it out.. Finally I decided it would be easier to just reload. After a clean install and installing drivers for some hardware, Windows informed me it needed to reboot so the device would work correctly. After POST I got a non bootable disk error. I put the Windows DVD in to try a repair install, but wanted to see what would happen ifI let it go past press any key to boot from CD.... To my surprise I was able to get into Windows. I suspected that there might be some virus/spyware leftover in the MBR.First I uninstalled the other copy of XP, then tried repairing the MBR. Now it comes up with a missing operating system message when I reboot.I can get into windows as long as the boot from cd option is on in BIOS and I do not "select any key to boot from CD"

When the PC rebooted, I got the Welcome screen w/ the 3 account. All require a password. I cannot get past this screen since I do not know a password for the accounts. I have tried blank, as well as the names of the accounts.

View 6 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine had some files on their computer corrupted and they couldn't find their copy of XP that came with their computer, so I used mine to just do a system repair. I've done repairs before on my own system and it didn't ask me to activate it, so I thought this would help solve the problem. Unfortunatly, it is asking for an activation and we still can't find my friends copy. Is all hope lost? or is there something else I should try first? Both of us have valid copies of XP, so I didn't expect to have this
many problems by just doing a system repair. Thanks in advance
Ok recentli have been having issues when starting up windows xp. Everytime i startup it asks for my boot disk. I have tried to change my boot sequence, having windows not even boot from my floppy disk, but still it looks for the boot disk. The only way i can start up my computer is by going through all 6 boot disks and after it will restart and start up windows.

View 6 Replies View Related A friend of mine is having a problem where he cant log into his computer. But he told me that he did not create a password for the computer. It also has a password on the admin account as well when I go through safe mode. So I took he hard drive out and set it up as a slave on another computer and scanned with nod32 and found and clean virus's. Still asks for a password. i tried ophcrack and it could not crack it. Tried offline password and that did not work either. Only thing I can think of is that maybe someone else put a password on it without him knowing it. Anyone possibly ever hear of a virus or something thats done this before.

Hi, I have a game to play called Silent Hill 3, when I installed it, and went to load it, it said I require a 32mb Video Card, I thought my computer could support this.
I just want to know what files I should copy for a backup disk? I really only would be concerned about my operating system, not any personal files. Basically, I want to know which specific files, (or sets of files) are required for an emergency reboot. I feel sorta stupid asking this, but recent events have shown me how ethereal and fragile computer programs can be. like wisps of smoke.
