Have spyware galore, did the removal tools and got all except for peper trojan. When to start it in safe mode and now it wont boot, I get Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM It goes on to say to repair boot using the windows disk and select r.OK did that, now what? Dont know where to go from there.

I researched on the internet and i found a post that said to post my minidump so that they can see it. When i searched for the minidump it wasnt there, my final solution was to reformat. I reformatted and the problem went a away.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a dell dimension 8250 3 years old I just had a nvidia gforce 128 mb graphics card put in to replace a burned out 64 bit card,now I just noticed the next day that when I right click anywhere on the desktop screen except on a folder or program-the cursor become an hourglass and it freezes pemanantly I cant even turn the comp off to shut it down I have to use the on off button.Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe've had 3 cases today of people who cannot login at all.After the boot, they only get the Windows blue screen(not the BSOD),the mouse pointer is there (you can move it and everything...), but there's no Windows logon box (where you type ctrl+alt+del , and enter your username and password).The problem is the same if I try to boot in safe mode...It happened on two different PCs (different hardware), and also on a Lenovo T60.
View 14 Replies View Relatedi rescently had to format the drive for a fresh copy. I have installed xp home retail version and realised i wanted to try something diferent. At system start the computer starts up prior to the windows boot screen and displays COMPAQ in big bright bold letters with option of F10 for system restore which is no longer on system (reformated) as well as other options for boot select pres ESC and F1 for setup.Can i remove this from my system? and then can i create a menu with 2 options 1 load windows normaly and 2 install a disk image stored on a hidden partition? maybe like the F10 key assighn that to access the imge and install it.
I cannot get into my PC. All of a sudden I trun on my PC and the login icons is MISSING! There is no username icon to click at the welcome screen. I tried to boot in safe mode and it still requires I click a user. I hit CNTRL+DEL+ALT twice to log on but it wouldnt take my password so I have no way to get into my system. Its Windows XP pro and I am not sure if I have SP2 or not.

After playing for a LONG time, the game briefly paused and I saw some visual artifacts, textures were all messed up etc. But I loaded a savegame and it worked fine after that. (I admit it, I had tried overclocking my GPU but that was over three weeks ago and I reset the settings back to normal.) I installed Norton 2009 and I have noticed my computer was different. Now I cannot even get passed the startup screen.It is like its frozen,the on/off button at the front doesn't work,only the restart. When I click on my user account to log in, nothing at all happens.I am on my husbands laptop right now. It is an old computer,but can it just die like that?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy friend gave me a Dell Latitude Laptop, Windows XP O/S to look at. It is a couple years old and was given to him by his old company which went out of business. He has not used it until recently and was unable to get into it due to a network password screen. I accessed it with ''admin'' as a username and no password. I cannot change the "users" information or disable the password because I have no "administrator" rights and don't kow the password for the administrator. I tried the default blank password trick. Once in, I noticed network software installed and I cannot access the internet with my ethernet cable. Basically, I am just trying to get it where he can use it around the house. Is there a way to disable the company installed networks, or make them go away completely? I have no XP O/S on disk, so I am trying to avoid a complete format. If I can just get the machine back to the basic XP O/S it would be good to go.

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
Any ideas?
I have a Dell Latitude D400 laptop. After reloading windows I get the Windows startup screen and then I just get a black screen...Windows will not come up. Anyone know what I can do?? I get the mouse and can move it around but no windows screen. I have done the diagnoics test and found a DST Short Test failed with code 1000-0146 is this why Windows will not load? Is my harddrive bad you think? It reloads Windows fine but Windows will not come up after install? Again all I get is a black screen with the mouse to move around.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP Home installation and the main account is set as an administrator account.when we log into this account the command prompt window is displayed, but not with a c prompt and there is nothing we can do to exit it (i.e unable to type exit)
On looking at the startup options in msconfig, which is what's causing the command prompt window to open:
Startup Item: svchost
Command: C:windowssystem32driverssvchost.exe
Location: HKCUSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrenVersionRun
So using the account that is in the administrators group I tried to deselect it but when clicking Ok or Apply I get this message:
Error: An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change the service. You man need to log on using and Administrator account the make the specified changes.
But I am using an Admin account...!?!?
So I tried rebooting into safe mode, then as the 'Official' Admin account to change it but when I login as the Administrator the svchost isn't in the start up options?
There are a couple of other accounts that are just standard accounts and they don't have the svchost on their startup.
Last Thursday i tried logging on to my computer.But when i got to the welcome screen it said to select the username i wanted to log on to....but there were none to choose!I did the CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on to the administrator,went under control panel....and again found no accounts.Then went to Computer Management under the User and Groups tree and again no users!I finally went to c:documents and settings and i found my 3 accts.But nothing ive tried has been able to get back the icons on the welcome screen.I need the help because i can only log on to 1 of my 2 accounts and i nedd some files and other things.

View 6 Replies View Relatedthe wife was listening to music (on the hard drive through winamp not the cd player) last night - two songs into list the music stops - she checks the computer , monitor is off, cue light is flashing orange and the computer appears to be running.puzzled, she tries a restart. upon restart,the computer appears to be on- power supply on, fans are running, lights are on, but there is no image on the monitor, monitor cue light flashing orange. i check the system this morning and get the same basic results. aditionally, the cd drive and the floppy drive are unresponsive, apparently off- no "drive" lights. thinking, but running out of ideas and looking for some suggestions.

I have done the following:
1. disabled it in MSCONFIG
2. checked it in SERVICES.MSC and it is disabled
3. ran highjack this and removed the 04 wmpnscfg.exe from the list
4. Deleted wmpsncfg.exe and the wmpnssci.dll from the cprogram fileswindows media player.
and the thing still is in msconfig startup after i opened and closed Windows Media player,so has anyone been able to totally remove this crap form startup?
I use WMP for everything but dont need all that other crap running i dont even have a network cable connected to my pc.
dose anyone know of a good all in 1 media player i could try instead?
No wonder you need a newer pc to run windows Vista, Microsoft puts so much crap in there programs and OS that even when its disabled or windows says it is ....... it still runs !!

View 12 Replies View RelatedI rebooted computer and got an error about a missing or corrupt file so windows would not even start to load.I got the bright idea that I could do a repair install of Windows.After the repair install copied the files necessary, it restarted the computer and I got the same "file missing or corrupt" error. So I found the file that was corrupt online and copied it to the HDD.Now my problem is that the Windows repair install is giving me an error after it loads the install and comes up with the install screen.

He is using XP Professional. For last month at the startup sometimes PC start up ok, but before XP logo comes, the whole screen goes black and only one flashing dash at the top left corner of the screen. The message was something along the lines of. A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Then it gave me some technical information (which im assuming is what's causing these problems) and it was like 0x346432HF, 0x3456DFGH (those aren't the actual values, it was just 0x[8 characters].It also said to restart my computer and run CHDSK /F to check for any hard drive problems.So I restart my computer, and everything is fine until I reach the login screen. I click on my user account and then type in my password, and halfway through that sound you hear when your computer is starting up, I get the same blue screen again. Next, I restart my computer and try to start it from the last time it worked. Blue screen during start up again.I try starting it in safe mode, blue screen during start up.I was hoping someone here would be able to help me so I won't have to resort to reformatting my computer. I really don't want to reformat my computer because I have some old games I still play like Starcraft, but I lost the cd key to it ages ago.

View 14 Replies View Relatedim hoping someone can help me out of a jam. my dell laptop has been working very well until now....when it refuses to load windows, instead stalling with a blue screen on every attempt to load. the bluscreen tells me that windows was unable to load, and says "unmountable_boot_volume." under the heading "technical information". i have no idea whether that is relevant but included it in case it is.i know i was short on memory, and im wondering whether windows is refusing to load because of that.or whether a virus has taken over me computer. ive tried loading windows in every safe mode, in last known good configuration.is there a hotkey to load the DOS prompt before windows, to try and edit the windows registry from there? is there anything i can do short of reformating and reinstalling windows? if anyone knows how to deal with this.
