View 1 RepliesI have installed this OS on a new Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX150 S4. Now I want just to use this Server as a server on a Workgroup. But the OS insists that it should be the Domain Controller. And then it just shuts it self down. Below is a log from the event viewer. Just don't really want to configure the entire Lan from workgroup to Domain.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up remote desktop but when I browse for computers, I
click on the network name then get the message ' the MSHOME domain/workgroup
does not contain any terminal servers.I have set up the XP pro machine to enable remote desktop.
I have a computer that has been running XP pro for a long time. I would like
to join it to a domain, but have found out by experience that my "domain
user" and my "workgroup user" are two completely different people. Can I use
the file and settings transfer wizard to transfer my "workgroup user"
settings to my "domain user" settings and then delete my "workgroup user?"
Are there any security concerns (e.g. run as administrator) that I need to be
aware of
You may experience extremely long delays (up to 5 minutes) when logging into domains using Windows XP Pro. This is caused by the asyncronous loading of networking during the boot up process. This speeds up the login process in a stand-alone workstation by allowing the user to log in with cached logon credentials before the network is fully ready. To disable this "feature" and restore your domain logons to their normal speed, open the MMC and add the group policy snap-in. Under Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->System-->Logon, change "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" to ENABLED.

I had to reboot, however it turns out the account I was using is on the remote domain, so I cannot log in. I don't have the administrator password, and would like to somehow set the domain back to what it was earlier so I can log in again. How would I go about doing this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like read an online manual "cover to cover" to find what I am looking for.Which brings me to my current problem. I want to use IIS (Internet
Information Services). Are there any directions anywhere? The first thing I wanted to do was set up three separate virtual directories. Searched Microsoft web site for "virtual", "directory", "virtual directory", and "IIS".
A while back before I knew better I gave a client of mine an active directory domain that ended in .org and did not exist on the internet at the time. Now, I'm discovering in the DNS event log at regular intervals errors about how the computers in the internal domain are unable to register in the DNS server of the web domain of the same name. So, my question is whether there is something I can do to change the Active Directory domain so that I don't get those errors anymore.
They're running Windows 2003 server standard with Active Directory, roaming profiles, routing and remote access for VPN, DHCP server, standard fileserver, and print server. I may have missed one or two things but likely I haven't. The server has itself as the primary DNS server though it's not the 127 address it's the actual IP. The secondary server is the router but I have the DHCP giving out the servers for opendns.com as options 3 and 4 after the Domain Controller and the router but I had the problem before adding the opendns.com entries.
My computer starts up normally. It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.
I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters
I've seen another post somewhere and someone else had this problem, but I haven't found a solution. We're using WXP Pro, SP2. After doing a repair install (the other person just had it after using Windows Update), at logon, after entering the correct, AND VALID, password either for a user Or the Administrator, Windows Logon displays the following Logon Message in a box: "!The system cannot log you on due to the following error: "The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect. "Please try again or consult your administrator."
No matter how many times logon is attempted, or with what account, the message continues to be issued. Thus, NO ONE can logon to the GUI. The Recovery Console can be used to logon as Administrator, but no password is requested even though there is one in place. I've searched the MSKB but didn't find any reference. Implementing "Last known good configuration" does not fix the problem.
Can a Windows 2003 Domain Controller communicate with a Windows 2000 Domain Controller? The reason I ask this is that I want to upgrade my Domain Contoller to Windows 2003, but want to have the backup Windows 2000 machine running as a backup Domain Controller.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just changed from a domain to a workgroup and now I can not log on. I wanted to share a library on my stationary PC with my wireless connected
laptop. After having established a new workgroup, confirming via my password and
restarting the laptop, I can't use the password anymore...What happened and what do i do to get reconnected?
I am adding a computer to my home network. All computers connect to the internet and each other through a wireless router, and belong to the same workgroup. All computers are Windows XP Pro SP2, except the new computer, which is XP Home SP2. A Firewall is enabled on all computers--the Windows firewall on the new computer, and Norton Worm Protection on the others.
If I run the Network Setup Wizard on the new computer, this completes successfully. But after rebooting, when I select View Workgroup Computers in Network tasks, I get a message saying that the workgroup is inaccessible.
This would perform a somewhat similar task as winpopup does.1. Goto command prompt (to do this, click on the start menu and select run, then type in cmd)2.Type net send * (your message)Note: the * would send the message to all of the computeres in the same workgroup as you. To send the message to a specific computer, type in the computer's ip address.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a LAN at home with 4 computers on it. They are all in the same workgroup, and all except 1 work fine, but on 1 computer i have the following problems:If i click view workgroup computers, it says i do not have permission to acces it, even though i have my workgroup set the same as on the other 3 computers. If i type the name of another computer into explorer like this: \workPC it says it cannot find it, while on other 2 computers it works (and on the 3rd too of course, since that one is called workPC). Also remote desktop connection doesn't work if i type in workPC, but it works on the other 3 computers.
But the other 3 computers cannot see this 4th computer either, it doesn't show up when i click view workgroup computers. It's as if it wasn't in the workgroup, even though i've triple checked it and it's the same as on all other computers.I can, however, access all other 3 computers via IP, like \192.168.0.5 and such, and that works, it also works via IP for remote desktop connection.
The problem that bothers me most, though, is that i cannot remote desktop into this 4th computer, even though remote desktop is enabled and it should work. I can remote desktop to other 3 computers from this computer, but not the other way around. When i try to connect to it (via IP since it doesn't work via it's name), it asks me for the username and password. I enter those correctly, then i get a warning i always get (something about "Remote Desktop cannot verify the identitfy of the computer you want to connect to." (and so on)). After i click yes (*i want to connect anyway*), it just returns me to the window that asks you for the name of the computer to connect to, and that's it.
I cannot change the workgroup name at all. when I right click my computer, got to properties and click on the tab computer name. It does not show the network ID option and/or the mshome workgroup area is grayed out and I cannot change this option at all. I ran all updates and the machine is sp2. Can anyone please shed some light on this weak networking OS?

Norton Ghost worked successfully from each PC, writing to either of two external backup hd (one ea on two of the four PC's). Life was good. Then I moved two PC's and changed the Computer Name on each. Now I am able to access the My Documents shared folder from/to any computer, but I'm unable to access the external backup harddrives. View 1 Replies View RelatedThis problem pops up at my office every time we add new users. When we create a new account and proceed to log the new user in at an existing workstation, some workstations won't log the new user in. We get the error that the user can't login because their profile is not found. We have a handful of machines that will complete the new login, create the new profile directory and thereafter the user can login anywhere. Again it's only some workstations. All of the computers run XP Pro, the server is a Win2k3 running Active Directory. We've unjoined and rejoined to the domain.
