Shortcuts Keys Folder Attach - Restarting Computer Doesn't Fix Field
Jun 27, 2005
I'm using Windows XP Pro and I open folders on my computer with shortcut like "Ctrl + Alt + "Letter key". To get this to work I created hidden shortcuts on my Desktop and under: Properties/"Shortcut" tab/"Shortcut key" Field. I added a shortcut key, by then pressing this particular "shortcut key" the folder attach to the shortcut folder will open. So far so good but once in a while out of the blue these shortcuts stop working all at once, restarting the computer ect doesn't fix the problem, the only way I found the shortcuts will start working again is by clearing the "shortcut key" field under Properties/"Shortcut" Tab then clicking ok, opening up properties again and adding once again the shortcut key on the "shortcut field" Why Do I have to keep reentering the shortcut keys on the shortcut folders for this to work? Any idea what can I do to prevent the shortcut command from stop working on the future?
I need to create two unqiue shortcuts that will copy two different folders contents and overwrite to another folder (including all sub-folders & files). The destination folder/subs will be the same location for both of the other two folders being copied.
After I used Fix-it Utlilies the program erased essential system folders. So now when I do check disk it reboots, flashes a blue screen real fast (so fast I can't even read it) then restarts the computer, restarts check disk, restarts the computer, and on & on. It won't stop doing this till I interrupt check disk at the start by hitting any key but then I end up with a black screen with instructions which include safe mode, safe mode with networking, start windows normally & last known configuration
I can't boot from an installation CD to do a "repair" since Windows was preinstalled in the drive so I have NO CD. Does system recovery work?, who knows, I'm a noob and have no idea how to use it. The only thing I've tried to fix it was 2 things : 1) use system restore which failed; 2) use run> sfc /scannow but this file checker is also broken and will barely start before it errors and stops. I don't know what else to do besides reformat
I made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.
However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".
The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".
This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.
In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions - the afore mentioned 'create file list' - explore (the default), and - find
For the folder file type I just have: - explore and - open
Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?
To delete a url i have visited from the address drop down field of my home page and from the drop down field of dogpile or any other search engine for that matter.
I thought that Windows XP (I think it is XP Pro, SP3) had one folder that stored all of your software product key/registration/license numbers? If so, which folder is it and where is it located?
I have XP SP3, and have recently discovered that when Restarting the system, after logging on, Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird automatically run. There are no shortcuts for them in the Start Up Folder, and they do not start automatically after a complete shut down/fresh start -- only after a restart. After they're up and running, everything works normal.
Today I had uninstalled several unused programs with the Add-Remove utility of Windows XP.Then I also unchecked a few services in the 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) and rebooted. Now, when I right-click on any folder or folder short-cut, the menu shows up only after waiting a full 3 minutes. The mouse cursor turns into the 'busy' indication and the system freezes during that time. The same scenario happens when I try to delete any folder (or folder-shortcut) using the 'Del' key on the keyboard. There is no such issue for any of the files.I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem and how it can be resolved. My PC is working fine now otherwise, and seems much faster than it was yesterday.
My Norton AntiVirus just upgraded from v2008 to v2009.Several weirdnesses ensued: 1. At the Windows Welcome screen, arrow keys could move the user selection up & down, but no alphanumeric keys made any visible entry (dot) in password field. Clicking Shut Down and restarting corrected this (for now, anyway). 2. The [Start] > [Log Off] > [Switch Users] button is missing. This would be a straightforward fix, except that 3. In Control Panel, User Accounts lacks "Change the way users log on or off"! [Is XP SP3's REAL purpose to hose up a nicely-running XP SP2 box, so the owner will FINALLY spring for a Vista system?] 4. Clicking any of the "Learn About." links opens the help page in IE7, but with its contents crowded to the left and the yellow bar at the top. Clicking to allow blocked content (Are you sure? YES!) results in yet another dialog about an ActiveX control that "might be unsafe" but the only new ActiveX control on this PC is one from Symantec, installed during the NAV 2009 upgrade. NAV 2009 was the FIRST product I've run into that did NOT permit its EULA to be selected, printed or saved. I like to keep a record of things I've agreed to, but that text was out of reach! Sixteen screenshots later.
How do I create network shortcuts in My Network Places? There are several computers on my network and on them, specific specific drives and specific folders that I use frequently. I'd like them to show up on all the computers, but I don't know how to create them? A second, related question, can I safely delete shortcuts that appear there that I don't use?
up until a month ago I was able to send attachments with my e-mail. Now, when I click on the "attach files" button, it continues as if is attaching it then stops and goes straight back to the main e-mail page. No error message or anything!I've tried it with different attachments and I've tried by disableing the firewall.Again, this was working just fine up until a month ago.
I work from home and need to be able to email. A few days ago I started by getting Script Errors at the bottom of my pages anytime I tried to do anything, but read my yahoo mail. I asked yahoo's help desk for support and they had me check the java script and debugging, and try downloading updated IE. Now I it says Error on Page at the bottom of my screen and I still can't do anything. I can't reply, forward, compose, attach files, delete, or move messages.
I'm looking for a way to create click-able Icons/shortcuts for various keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+..., etc.). [My mouse is very acessable, but my keyboard is not. I know about various on-screen keyboards; but I would prefer clickable Icons that I could put in my quick launch toolbar, for example.]
Is this possible to do within XP, or with some program I can install
When I try to open a folder of a program it doesn't work. I click the folder and the mouse changes to the mouse and hourglass picture but nothing happens after that. Sometimes I get that error sound but no message pops up. Then the title on the title bar of my applications goes blank and I no longer can click the menu that says file, edit, view,It highlights it but it won't let me click it. I also cannot right click anymore and when I try to reset my computer, it highlights it but I can't click that either.I also can't open the task manager when it happens nor can I type in my address bar or open a new tab for my browser.. I tried running a virus scan but it catch anything so I have no idea what I can do. I've tried system restore but that didn't fix it.
I am using Music Match as default media player. Anyone know how can I change my folder settings so that their music logo doesn't appear before each track in my mp3 music folders.
i have a folder on my desktop that is not empty but when i try to open it (via GUI or command line) it will not. i get "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" and it wants me to run check disk. when i do, i then get an application error on boot up. so i boot in safe mode with command line and disable check disk on boot up so i can get back into windows with no problem however the folder is still there and unable to open and/or delete. fsutil tells me that the c drive is dirty, but i just can't clean it.how can i delete "C:Documents and SettingsusernameDesktopNew Folder"?
I did a search in relative to my error but couldn't find a solution from some of the previous thread with the same error code. I get the following blue screen message:Error:A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. A wait operation, attach process, or yield was attempted from DPC routine. If this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Starup options, and then select safe mode.
I just bought this computer about 4 months ago and over the last few days it has been randomly restarting on its own. I ran adaware and scanned for viruses with norton and they found nothing. Yesterday it restarted a couple of times, one time I had firefox and paint shop pro open, the other time, I had outlook express open. I'm not sure what could be causing this, the only thing I've installed within the last two days was the latest expansion pack for sims 2.
i aint doing it ! the computer keeps restarting on its own it all happened yesterday first time it just restarted i dont remaber doing anything suspicious.i checked my inside of computer and everything is intact, i checked for spywares and still no hope done a chkdisk etc.
A couple of weeks ago my computer started to act very strangely and after sending numerous windows errors it began to restart on its own for about 5 mins then restart again. It continued in this loop and actually the loop became smaller to the point where I couldn't even get onto the log on screen and it just kept saying press 'ctrl, alt, delete'.When I did it just restarted to the same point (small loop).I asked a few IT bods and they said that it couldn't read from the hard drive and managed to get a XP boot disk and it then started to run but not to my log on page. The page had a 'run' button instead of start.I copied over all of the files from the disk to the hard drive and ran it from there. Then hey presto I was back on to my log on page and home page. Then exactly the same thing happened. The error pop ups began and it began to shut down and restart.
My computer keeps restarting. I tried everything I could find on google with no prevail Within minutes of turning on my computer it restarts. I followed one suggestion un checked an option "restart computer when computer crashes" and now it just freezes within minutes of startup. It doesn't, however, freeze in safe mode if that makes a difference.I've tried pretty much every virus/spyware program in the book so I don't think thats the problem.
Last night my girlfriends daughter tried to install a game on her PC (one of these tycoon games) it froze half way through installing and then switched itself off. When trying to restart it, it asks whether to restart in Normal or Safe mode etc and then it gets as far as the Microsoft Windows XP screen and then restarts itself again. It gets to the same stage everytime and restarts. It won’t allow me to start in safe or normal mode.
I think my computer may have some kind of virus. None of my antivirus and spyware programs are picking it up. My computer just keeps on restarting. It seems that it restarts when too many programs are running and when I am away from the computer for more then half an hour. I never noticed it automatically restarting until about two days ago. Everytime I leave the computer and come back, it has been restarted. How do I fix this?
I heard a computer show today where the host was saying you should restart XP after three days or so because it slows down, gets buggy, ect. Yet I had heard it said you could leave in on for weeks or months.... which is correct?
My brother attempted to install Windows Media Center on his computer, the computer then restarted and now keeps restarting right after the first screen, the "PRESS DEL TO ENTER SETUP" one with the energy saver icon. I tried to enter safe mode, all I got was the same restarting, even in safe mode. It seems Windows cannot load up
i havn't been able to install any games because my directx 9.0c was acting up but ive been on the windows website and fixed it. However, when i play games i have a problem which has been continuing for a very long time. When i load up a game it works alright, loads up then my computer restarts. for example, i have downloaded the eragon demo just for the sake of it and i load it up, it loads the demo and jsut as the controlled gameplay starts my computer restarts everytime. It is the same problem on every game that ive had for along time and i don't know what is wrong or why.
