View 3 RepliesI am running Windows XP home edition, and I haven't added any new RAM for, well, probably just under a year now. I haven't made any changes to my machine for a good while either (apart from the usual microsoft updates anyway, I turned my machine on this morning, and it booted up as it normally does, but one other box popped up on my screen: The system has recovered from a serious error. A log of this error has been created.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I downloaded WinOPtimizer 4 and started to tweak my computer.I went to logon tweaking and when it showed to logon as user I changed it to admninistrator since I am the only one using the computer and have no other users. Well what happened was that the application created another Administrator. Now I have 2 Administrator and would like to delete the one created by the software but I cannot because the system will not let me. It states that to delete an account that is an administrator I have to have the other administrator do it but I try and I cannot.
View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently re-installed WXP after Computer Crash.
Copied "My Documents" folder from thumb drive to the computer
.
Noticed several folders in "My Documents" were missing so thought I didn't back up to the thumb drive often enough so figured they were lost in the crash.
Wasl looking for a file and was unsure in which folder it might be located so did a "search" and found it in "My Documents". Went back to the "My Documents" folder and it wasn't there so did another search. This is what I discovered:
I went into Windows Explorer and found "My Documents"
I went into "My Computer" and then the "C" drive and found Documents and Settings, Gary, My Documents in the tree
i have this one problem. i created new folder in total commander (F7) and named it whatever. the folder was created but those last three slashes didnt appear in the name. i wanted to delete (DEL key) it but it didnt work... the folder was still there without any error message. i ran checkdisk (correct errors etc.) and then tryed to del it. i finally downloaded some erase program that should do the deleting. but again it didnt work. i really dunno what should i do besides formating the disc. any ideas what could work?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed UNIX Services for Windows. Then I installed a UNIX application. Then I wanted to remove both.
I tried to removed the application but some of the files would not let me delete them.I then uninstalled UNIX Services for Windows which worked fine but left behind it's folder 'C:SFU' because a few application folders are there and are write protected.I installed them under UNIX Services for Windows and now I can't delete them.Any back doors or UTILS to get rid of them? I tried KILLBOX but it could not do it.
I just moved in to my buddy from work, and decided to put a pass on my PC, since a lot of people go thru the house on weekends. I set up an account, gave it admin privileges, but when setup asked: "would you like to give that account access to files?" (or some similar question) I selected NO. When account loaded I couldn't get access to any of my files! The problem now is that I can't delete that new account, because it's the only account! I tried setting up another one with administrator privileges, but it doesn't ask that question anymore (would you like to give that account access to files?), so I can't get access?
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen i switched my computer on this morning an error appeared regarding not being able to find the local profile. I restarted the computer - no error message - but now it appears to be logged in as a guest (my settings have all gone - no icons for my files on desktop, etc.). When I look at the users in control panel it shows just main user and guest (i don't use the users options on windows - only me using the computer).

I read that one should password protect the hidden admin account cos if it is infiltrated or hacked then all blimey could be let loose

A couple of times recently, I have made service calls that if I could have gotten into the Administrator's account, I could have fixed it; but, some fool had changed passwords on both the user account and the Administator account. Is there a way to create an invisible account with administrator privilidges that can be accessed in some way but that doesn't show up in the log-in screen or under Users and Passwords?

I have a user who is accumulating files in his %temp% directory at an average rate of 3 per minute, and they don't clean up on their own, so he ends up with hundreds of built up files daily.Their names all start with "ver" then have numbers and letters, like "ver7b905", the only part that is consistent is the first three letters. Is there a troubleshooting method I can use to determine what is creating these files, or a master list somewhere to look it up like we can with file extensions? The system is XP Pro SP2.

View 3 Replies View RelatedLike 99% of the real world, I do NOT want this stoopid Explorer to show Date Created, Date Access, Attributes, or ANY of this extra crap that windows now uses in the explorer when I list a folder full of fotos. I have photo software for that... not for in a 'quick' view of a folder...It might be cute and okay if there is 1 or 5 photos, but I have an average of 5000-10000 photos and/or videos in each folder.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 2000 with the normal administrator id setup as well as one other. I logged in today and noticed I had no background which tipped me off. I tried my email program and it was asked me to set it all up. I then went into mydocuments and it was empty. So if I go into my drive and look at Documents and Setting I normally only had Administrator, AllUsers and my other ID motopsycho. Now I have the following....Administrato Administrator.Chris
Administrator.Chris.000 AllUsers AllUsers.WinNT motopsycho Now if I go into just the regular Administrator I can see all MyDocuments, MyFavorites etc. but I seem to be booting up with the Administrator.Chris.00
I set-up a FTP site on Windows 2000 server so two remote users could access files on the Server. I have a static IP address for the site. These two people who need access previously had static IP Address to the server. They would type in a web site address which would then request an IP Address. They then logged on the site that way with a username and password. They let the hosting service expire for the web site and stopped paying for the static IP Address. Now my friends want to to have access to the Server again.I set up a FTP Site on the Windows 2000 Server. First time for me doing that. The Properties of the FTP site can be viewed by clicking on the attached web site.I can ping the Static IP Address successfully.
View 10 Replies View Relatedthe closest we have found to our same problem is number on thread t350665..background one of our customers has run into a problem: they have been using XPhome for about a year, SP2 installed smoothly and has run well for a few months, they turned on automatic update, it installed, then next boot:problem it asked them for logon password where there was, previously, no (more specifically, blank) password. We tried booting into safe mode as admin, it also asked for a password where there was none. We have not found a default password, none of the defaults we knew for other microsoft products seem to work. The closest thing to a solution we have found is KB321305, but this article assumes they made a password disk (which they didn't, I think because they were not as suspicious of microsoft as I am), nor have admin priviledge, because the OS (or some updated part of it) seems to have forced a password on ALL accounts where they were all previously blank, so we can't even start in safe mode. They do not relish wiping their OS and starting over, and neither do I.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy computer was working fine. I would turn on the computer and it'll go straight into my desktop and I'll see all my files and icons on the desktop. Just 2 days ago, my son decides to "create" his own user account and he happens to set it him up also as the "administrator". When ever we turn on the computer, it would go to a screen and it would ask us to select a user to log on as (only one avail, it's his). We'd click his user account and it goes to a desktop, however, there is only 2 icons (recycle bin and adobe reader), nothing else. Where are my files/icons? How do I fix it? I rather undo what he did but it appears that I can't delete his user account because he is the administrator.
