"SEARCH RESULTS" When I Don't Want

Apr 2, 2005

When I click my My Computer icon on dsktop then click any drive... windows search results page opens up, as if I had opened search from the start menu.

This does not happen when opening other choices in My Computer such as Control panel or Shared documents, etc.

I'm looking for a tweak which will restore the default setting for My Computer function.

Search Companion Has Reverted To Old Search Results

Sep 3, 2005

My Search Companion now calls itself Search Results and does not offer to find Pictures, music, or video, Documents, etc. Also the animated assistant is not available nor is the change preferences option. I had a nasty virus attack and had to repair XP Pro. All else is repaired as far as I can tell, but this version of Search is not nearly as handy.

Exporting Search Results And Producing Drive Maps?

Jul 6, 2005

I've done a search on my drive to locate all the Power Point files and came up with 1712 results. I need to export these results to a user friendly format (preferably xls) so that I have the name of the file, the location, the size and the date modified. How do I go about doing this? I am also interested in creating a tree diagram that will show the entire structure of my drive, i.e. think something like the explore's bar view folders option with expand all. MS DOS PROMP will give you such an option but it's not really user friendly.

Config Or Reg Edit Will Allow Folder Show File - Search Results FUBAR

Aug 14, 2005

The windows Explorer search feature works well enough for most file searches except when looking for files on a disc. On those occasions, the In Folder results point not to the disc drive but to c:documents & settings[name]Local Settings Applications Data. In short, not to where the files are. To add insult to fubar, clicking on any folder in the list results in -- absolutely nothing because I am clicking on a phantom folder (duh). I know that if I scroll across to the right, miles outside the screen view, I'll finally see where the file in question actually resides -- major and unappreciated pain. Is there a config or reg edit somewhere that will allow me to set the In Folder to show the file where it actually is, referencing the disc drive, instead of the above c:. If not, at the very least, I think Microsoft should share some of what the Einstein was smoking the day he came up with this one.

"Search Results" Remains In The Task Bar And Will Not Close Out

Jan 30, 2005

My Windows XP Pro Search function is working, however, when I exit the program "Search Results" remains in the task bar and will not close out. The only way to end this is by using the Task Manager. After ending the program with Task Manager some of the running programs originally on the Task Bar do not return. I am not sure whether this is a Search function or Task Manager problem. I have run System File Checker with no luck.

Pro - Search... Turning Off Search Of Zip Files

Mar 28, 2006

is there a way in Windows XP to turned off searching in *.zip during the Search command? I search multiple network drives serveral times a day for files and do not need to search in the *.zip files. By searching the *.zip files the time is greatly increased. When I had Windows 2000 the search would take about 1 minute (did not search *.zip files) and now in Windows XP the search takes over 12 and half minutes (1079 *.zip files)
I did a test by making all the *.zip hidden and did the search again - averaged about 59 seconds. Unforunately, I have to leave the *.zip files as not hidden.
Any ideas?

Cant Get Rid Of Power Search/Sir Search

Oct 7, 2003

when i was downloading a free screen saver i also got a "free" toolbar called Power Search and I keep getting redirected to Sir Search page, which may or may not allow me to surf where I want to go.

i used spyware and I have run AdAware (twice) and Spybot Search and Destroy and even Spyware Blaster. I have gone in to all the programs and tweaked the settings as much as I can on the free versions but nothing has removed them so far.

I have hidden the Power Search toolbar from view but it is still there. And it isn't listed in Add/Remove programs.

Is there a website somewhere that gives removal directions for this?

Search Function Won't Search

Jul 27, 2005

every time I entered a file name or search name in the box, the result came up instantly: "Searched, nothing found."

Actually, there was no time to conduct a search, the result showed up within a half second.

Meanwhile, I've tested by entering names of files that appear multiple times and I still get the same result instantly, "nothing found."

What can I do to correct or repair?
