View 7 RepliesRunning Windows XP getting this message upon boot: "Runner Error: Runner file name (updates from HP.exe) lacks a '-' (the app id separator)" I believe I started having this message after a bad bout with spyware after going through a series of pretty invasive steps to eliminate it. Since then I haven't been able to access any built-in "help" indexes, nor can I access "msconfig" or some other things that I usually access via the "run" command. I think I have a pretty widespread problem here but I really don't want to reformat.
View 13 Replies View RelatedAt startup I get a pop up Runner Error message saying: Runner file name (Upates from HP.exe) lacks a ___ (the app ID Seperator). Where I have typed "___" it is a symbol I cannot duplicate with my keyboard. It looks like " with a - underneath. Is this update from HP important? How do I fix/eliminate the problem/pop up message?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI receive an error code every time I start up my computer: Could not load the target dll "BackWeb" directory does not exist on my computer. I recently allowed someone access to my computer for a time and came home to it being full of popups/errors etc, so I did a thorough clean with AVG and TrendMicro, and now no longer receive any virus otifications in scans. Registry errors and spyware still come up though, which I am continuing to try to take care of with CCleaner, Ad-aware, and Spybot S&D. Now, This was probably a corrupted .dll file, and considering the error message, it seems likely.

Everytime I try to download a file it is corrupt. For instance, I tried downloading a movie clip off rapidshare and although its only 3 files and 300MB, it always came as CRC error check failed. I tried downloading it from multiple servers of rapidshare but had no success. I also tried downloading other files yet I am having no success downloading anything.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using a POWER USER account, Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 /w all the latest patches availible via microsoft update. I was trying to create a .zip file of a folder within the primary directroy of a backup hard drive I use.
For Example:
D:stuff - I wanted to make a zipfile of the folder "stuff."
Then I get the following error "Cannot Create Output File."
However, if I move the folder to the destop or a subdirectory i.e. stuff/more stuff, then the .zip file is created with no problems.
Also, because user accounts [at least in my experience] have a tendency to decay, I created a freash power user account and the same problem persist.
Is this a standard security feature for power user accounts? Is there anyway I can "disable" it if it is?
I recently have begun having problems with my Outlook PST file. This has never occurred before over the many years I have been using the same Outlook file and I believe the problems started happening right around the same time that I put in iTunes onto my PC and started to allow iTunes to sync my Outlook contacts with my iPhone.
My Outlook file still more or less functions normally, but each time I open Outlook I get an error message telling me that the Outlook file was not closed properly the last time it was used and it much be checked for errors. It then does the check, which often it takes 20 minutes while running the check in the background, and each time it finds no errors.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy pc power supply blew up, and damaged all my drives, and other parts. I found a similar h/d for sale, that had bad sectors, and swapped the circuit board and the drive now works again.BUT, it does not boot, so I connected it as a second drive, and got access to basically all my files. However, any attempts to get it to boot again have not worked, so I cannot access my encrypted data files.I suspect that since only the first few tracks were damaged (?) the private encryption key is somewhere else on the drive (like the two fats, etc)is this assumption wrong? If true, is there a specific s/w package that could "rebuild" my drive, or at least pick up the second copy of this "key" and help me open the files?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed this OS on the PC I'm using right now, it used to have Win ME, which is probably by far the worst Windows that has ever existed. The PC runs way better than it used to overall, but I do have one big **** of a problem: I recieve an error message that says "can't find the specified file" when I try to install a program. Programs I've tried to install:
Adobe Reader
Winzip
W2KSP4 (service pak 4)
Windows installer 3.1
And a few more.
Basically anything that has to be extracted or self-extracts. Could this be a problem with the temporary folder, or not enough RAM? (128 MB) Also: I have saved all this programs on the hard drive, I'm not running them from a network, the internet, or any other drive. Keep in mind that I can't install winzip or winrar so I can't use them to fix any problems. I've scanned the hard drive for errors (complete surface scan), ran virus and spyware checks... I have Spyware Doctor and AVG Free antivirus installed on my PC, I don't know if either could be interfering with my PC's performance.
Recently, when booting up, I have been getting 2 error messages (both appear twice). They refer to files not found or missing but I cannot begin to identify the files - all that I see are a series of little squares: 7 in a row, then a space, then 14 more. I click on OK and away they go and everything else seems to procede normally. I have a Dell Dimension, Windows XP Home. A call to Dell was not encouraging - they recommended re-installing the system. Oh dear. I have Norton Firewall and Anti-Virus, Microsoft's new Anti-Spy, WinPatrol, AdAware and Spybot. I am FAIRLY confident that my system is clean, but then, who knows? I have run registry checks and let them do their business (I don't fool around with the registry on my own, I am not a trouble-maker). If I need to re-install, I will work up the courage to do so, but until then...maybe someone here has had some experience with these error messages. At least I would learn something new. For now, my system SEEMS to be working OK, but what do I know. This could be a harbinger of worse things to come.

"Error Moving File or Folder
Cannot remove folder (insert folder name here): The directory is not empty."
This is fairly common (once or twice a month) and it occurs usually with folders containing many subfolders when being moved by explorer gui "Move the selected items", or ctrl-x, ctrl-v . Repeated attempts through the same process seems to move the folders, but the errors increase as the concentration of stubborn folders increases.
