View 9 RepliesThis problem only happens to files that i delete from the OPEN or SAVE AS windows rather than deleting from the file folder itself. For example if I were to go to a folder in my external hard drive and delete a file that way it's not a problem to empty it from the recycle bin. But if I was saving a file or opening a file from an app and I delete it from that dialog box those are the files that just can't seem to be remove from the recycle bin. I know it's due to my external drive because when I turned it off the files are not in the recycle bin anymore. Now i tried using the Task Manager to turn off all processes dealing with my external hard drive but I still can't remove those files from the recycle bin; unless there are other files that i need to stop the process of.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt all started a few weeks ago when I could not move a folder to the recycle bin because it "could not find it". This week i did somehow get it to move there, but when i tried to delete it for good I got the same error. So i used Tune-Up Utilities 2008 in an attempt to get rid of it. The folder is gone, but the error remains. I think the bin is not working properly anymore either. I moved some folders of music to the recycle bin but they weren't there yet rar files i had deleted were. I have tried many many different commands, and a "restore recycle bin" registry edit, and safe mode.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYears ago, I edited the registry to remove the recycle bin from the desktop. I have its icon in the tool bar and I recently deleted it on accident. I cant recall exactly what I did to the registry.I have tried the microsoft suggestion to put the recycle bin back via regedit, but the file is still there. The problem, I believe, lies in the fact that when you go to desktop properties and select customize, recycle bin is not even an option along with My Computer, My Network Places, and one other that escapes me.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy system is set up with three harddrives and multiple partitions on each drive.I know that if I just delete a file, it's stored in the Recycle Bin and not actually deleted, even if I empty the bin. However, since the Recycle Bin is on the C: drive, if I delete a file from another drive's partition, and then I use Eraser on the Recycle Bin to overwrite the files inside, are the files still on the partition and the empty space on it now has to also be Erased?

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy recycle bin shows itself to be empty, but when i click to clear it, something weird happens, it asks if I want to delete WINDOWS. I'm assuming that this means the directory C://Windows, which would be catastrophic if I were to restart the computer. I have a Compaq Presario R3000 running WinXP Home. Today, I both CrapCleaned it, as well as used Registry Mechanic. I had not emptied my recycle bin since then, until now. I had also scanned it with Trendmicro PCcillin 2006, which found two viruses, which had been quarantined, and then I deleted the quarantined files. Remember, this was all prior to me emptying my trash can.

View 14 Replies View RelatedIf you're like me, you appreciate the clean desktop that XP offers. Unfortunately, one item remains: the Recycle Bin. You can't get rid of it through any menus or anything like that. After much hacking around in the registry, I finally found the responsible key. Simply delete and restart. When you restart, the Recycle Bin is no longer on the desktop. When you delete stuff, it still prompts to send it to the Recycle Bin, as always. To fully delete something, just delete it from C:Recycled. or C:Recycler (name dependsĀ on file system). To view this folder, you have to have everything set to be seen, including hidden folders and procted OS files and all that.

I installed the Eset NOD32 3.0 antivirus, I wanted to remove it. I couldn't remove it on a conventional way, using the add/remove tool, so I removed it from my windows startup list, and then physically removed the folder from my HDD, and then used PC Tools Registry Mechanic thinking that it would do the trick, but it didn't. I tried various registry cleaning programs, but I just can't find it in the lists.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Mcafee. I defraged my computer and restarted it. When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. I waited for about 10 minutes and then nothing still, I don't know any other way to remove McAfee, how to remove McAfee, add/remove program list won't work here.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have tried previously to uninstall my HP Officejet G85 printer from HP Pavilion a1130n running XP Media. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is missing lots of programs under Add/Remove Programs that I know are installed. Furthermore, some that are listed don't have the Remove button next to it. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently uninstalled Windows SP3 RC1 from my computer and reverted back to Windows SP2 through the use of Projekt (Project) Dakota. Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday. Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)

View 44 Replies View RelatedWhen I right click on Recycle Bin, the empty recycle bin option does not appear. I probably messed this one up by playing with some context menu editor some time back. BTW, I have already un-installed that tool. Is there some solution to get that back. Don't want to go through the ordeal and the associated pain of doing a fresh install. There is a command called sfc which is supposed to correct things and which has to be run with the XP CD in. I can't recall the syntax.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe bin says it has something in it but when I open the bin there is nothing. When I press empty recycle bin it gives me the usual warning, 'Are you sure you want to delete these files', But the bin still has the full icon and if i press empty bin again, The same thing happens. Also, When deleting files it says, 'Do you wish to delete?' and gets deleted without going to the recycle bin. I have checked my recycle bins properties and the box 'Delete without sending to recycle bin' is not checked.
