I have an XP system where something moved the c:windows folder to the recycle bin.The recycle bin still says it is there, but I can't restore it.There are at least a half dozen threads on the site where someone sites this same problem, though they get to the same conclusion from different original problems.I have tried going into the profile for the recycle bin and adjusting the slider like was suggested in one thread.Same thread sent me to a site that put something in the registry. That didn't work.Got an un-delete program, it won't let me un-delete the folder.Found SFC and ran that.No effect. There has to be a way to recover the windows folder without doing a system restore and losing all of my applications.
When I double click and open up my Recycle bin, the items are instantly removed. The issue is if I accidently delete something I will not be able to restore it. Any settings I can review to fix this. I have tried the properties of the Recycle Bin.
There is an Adobe Illustrator file in my Recycle Bin (Windows XP Professional) that seems to be locked. When I try to delete it or restore it, I get the error message "Cannot delete Dc152: It may be in use by another person or program." I have no idea where "Dc152" comes from. That is not the name of the file. How do I troubleshoot this?
alright, i got mad last time iw as here and swore i'd never comeback but well i'm desperate I have managed to somehow recycle my recycle bin. Can't find it in a search.
My system is set up with three harddrives and multiple partitions on each drive.I know that if I just delete a file, it's stored in the Recycle Bin and not actually deleted, even if I empty the bin. However, since the Recycle Bin is on the C: drive, if I delete a file from another drive's partition, and then I use Eraser on the Recycle Bin to overwrite the files inside, are the files still on the partition and the empty space on it now has to also be Erased?
I recently downloaded some drivers as I was trying to install a new printer who's software would'nt load. This did'nt solve the problem. I decided to get a printer that I had had before, Brother DCP-110C as I knew this had worked well. I tried to install yesterday (28th July) but could'nt and my PC keeps switching itself off near the end of the installation. I then thought I would use System restore to go back to a happier time when I had the first Brother printer. previous saved point wont let me to restore
I was messing around with CCleaner and deleted something to do with an old version of McAfee (which isn't even on my computer anymore) from the registry. Yes, it was stupid to mess with the registry I guess because I failed to make the backup and now my computer won't boot. I get the blue screen that says there was an error 0x0000008e, or something like that.
I have tried using F8 and choosing the last known good configuration but it doesn't work. Also, I can boot into safe mode and I tried running a system restore but after it finished and I rebooted, it said that I couldn't restore from that point.I haven't really tried another restore because I am a little afraid to do anything. I don't want to risk losing access in safe mode because I need to be able to back up some of my files if in case I have to do a reformat.
My computer had a turn yesterday and kept giving me the blue screen error on start-up, so using my windows disk I managed to run chkdsk. So I can get on now, but certain things won't run, like Media Centre, Firefox has forgotten my settings and also my iriver doesn't get acknowledged when I plug it into a USB port.So I am trying to run System restore to go back a couple of days.I can get into restore, and go through everything up to the point where you click 'next' in order to restore it.I click on next but nothing happens, it just stays there.
I am unable to acess any of my or XP's restore points. When I went to restore to an earlier date. All appeared to be going as it should. However, when I got to my profile a message window came up that said unable to restore to (chosen date/time) etc. I chose 3 other restore points over the last month, thinking it might be some recent problem, still a no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated? Is there a utility to use to check and see if there is something corrupted?
I'm trying to do a system restore without success. It goes through the motions but after it restarts always say "cannot use restore point, no changes have been made to your system". I'm trying to correct a font setting change that happened without my knowledge.
my recycle bin shows itself to be empty, but when i click to clear it, something weird happens, it asks if I want to delete WINDOWS. I'm assuming that this means the directory C://Windows, which would be catastrophic if I were to restart the computer. I have a Compaq Presario R3000 running WinXP Home. Today, I both CrapCleaned it, as well as used Registry Mechanic. I had not emptied my recycle bin since then, until now. I had also scanned it with Trendmicro PCcillin 2006, which found two viruses, which had been quarantined, and then I deleted the quarantined files. Remember, this was all prior to me emptying my trash can.
I have an icon (from sony erickson, used for downloading cell phone pics), that I can't get to the recycle bin, when I try all of the methods mentioned above it still doesn't delete. I get one of those "no symbols" with a line across when I try to delete the icon I am using windows XP.
If you're like me, you appreciate the clean desktop that XP offers. Unfortunately, one item remains: the Recycle Bin. You can't get rid of it through any menus or anything like that. After much hacking around in the registry, I finally found the responsible key. Simply delete and restart. When you restart, the Recycle Bin is no longer on the desktop. When you delete stuff, it still prompts to send it to the Recycle Bin, as always. To fully delete something, just delete it from C:Recycled. or C:Recycler (name dependsĀ on file system). To view this folder, you have to have everything set to be seen, including hidden folders and procted OS files and all that.
In recycle bin simply delete h key local machine software microsoft windows. When i restart computer the recycle bin is no longer on the desktop. When you delete stuff it still prompts to send it to the recycle bin as always. To fully delete just delete it from c recycled or c recyclers may dependsĀ on file system.
i want to restore my laptop. had restore turned on until about 3 weeks ago shut it off. question:if you shut off restore does it still keep the last restore points? and is there a way to restore in safe mode (cant boot in reg mode) if restore is shut of. when i try and turn on sys restore in safe mode it say "i cant"
Restore Incomplete is the message regardless of what date is entered. I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Other than reinstalling XP I am at a loss as to what to do. I do not have a need to restore at the moment but I may need to in the future.
My comp has been experiencing several problems and is running poorly. I bought an external HD, completely backed up everything important and was about to run a system restore as I had created a manual restore point following the resolution of previous problems. The link to the thread is found below. However, when I use the system restore wizard, I can only select November 8th, 9th, and 10th and today is the 10th. I created the manual restore point back in March 2006. I cannot change the month and I have no idea where to find manual points.
My system restore is enabled but no matter what bold restoration point I choose I am told system can't be restored to that date, choose another restoration point. I do, the system shuts down and restarts and I get the same message.
How do I do a restore to factory settings? The only thing I have been able to find is a system restore to an earlier date, could someone help me please?
I have Windows XP. I create restore points, but when i try to use the system restore, it says; Restore failed, could not resstore computer. I choose a different date and get the same thing, Can't restore. Does anyone know why this happens?
When I right click on Recycle Bin, the empty recycle bin option does not appear. I probably messed this one up by playing with some context menu editor some time back. BTW, I have already un-installed that tool. Is there some solution to get that back. Don't want to go through the ordeal and the associated pain of doing a fresh install. There is a command called sfc which is supposed to correct things and which has to be run with the XP CD in. I can't recall the syntax.
my system is recently formatted. so when ever i delete some thing i guess it should be going to recyle bin. but to my surprise the short cut for that is missing on the desktop. how to find where my recyle bin would be.
The bin says it has something in it but when I open the bin there is nothing. When I press empty recycle bin it gives me the usual warning, 'Are you sure you want to delete these files', But the bin still has the full icon and if i press empty bin again, The same thing happens. Also, When deleting files it says, 'Do you wish to delete?' and gets deleted without going to the recycle bin. I have checked my recycle bins properties and the box 'Delete without sending to recycle bin' is not checked.
Does anyone know how to repair the recycle bin? Icon works fine, but once the program is opened, all that happens is the flashlight looking for files and folders to delete.
Can someone help me find the recycle bin. It is not on the desktop nor does it show up on a search of the hard drive (incl. hidden & system etc files). It appears to be 'missing', yet if I delete it asks me if I want to put these items in the recycle bin.Can you help me locate this as I want to put a shortcut on the desktop for it? I am running WinXP Pro, and am set up as an admin on it. I have tried TweakUI and Advanced System Optimizer to no avail
On an XP PC, when I try to empty the RECYCLE BIN I get an error message: Cannot Delete dc2: Access is denied (If you click OK, you get the window again. Click OK the second time and it goes away)... and it fails to empty it. I can go into the BIN and do a CTRL A and hit delete and all is fine. A search for dc2 shows 6 instances on the PC and they are all know entities in various locations.
How to remove Recycle Bin Icon from Desktop..On the right hand pane find " Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop " , double left click on it to ENABLE it.
