Dec 31, 2007

I have an icon (from sony erickson, used for downloading cell phone pics), that I can't get to the recycle bin, when I try all of the methods mentioned above it still doesn't delete. I get one of those "no symbols" with a line across when I try to delete the icon I am using windows XP.

Recycle Bin Disapears - Recover Recycle Bin

Oct 13, 2006

My system is set up with three harddrives and multiple partitions on each drive.I know that if I just delete a file, it's stored in the Recycle Bin and not actually deleted, even if I empty the bin. However, since the Recycle Bin is on the C: drive, if I delete a file from another drive's partition, and then I use Eraser on the Recycle Bin to overwrite the files inside, are the files still on the partition and the empty space on it now has to also be Erased?

Nothing In Recycle Bin

Sep 1, 2007

my recycle bin shows itself to be empty, but when i click to clear it, something weird happens, it asks if I want to delete WINDOWS. I'm assuming that this means the directory C://Windows, which would be catastrophic if I were to restart the computer. I have a Compaq Presario R3000 running WinXP Home. Today, I both CrapCleaned it, as well as used Registry Mechanic. I had not emptied my recycle bin since then, until now. I had also scanned it with Trendmicro PCcillin 2006, which found two viruses, which had been quarantined, and then I deleted the quarantined files. Remember, this was all prior to me emptying my trash can.

Get Rid Of Recycle Bin

Sep 21, 2004

If you're like me, you appreciate the clean desktop that XP offers. Unfortunately, one item remains: the Recycle Bin. You can't get rid of it through any menus or anything like that. After much hacking around in the registry, I finally found the responsible key. Simply delete and restart. When you restart, the Recycle Bin is no longer on the desktop. When you delete stuff, it still prompts to send it to the Recycle Bin, as always. To fully delete something, just delete it from C:Recycled. or C:Recycler (name dependsĀ on file system). To view this folder, you have to have everything set to be seen, including hidden folders and procted OS files and all that.

Recycle Bin Problem In Pro SP3 32 - Bit

Apr 9, 2010

When I right click on Recycle Bin, the empty recycle bin option does not appear. I probably messed this one up by playing with some context menu editor some time back. BTW, I have already un-installed that tool. Is there some solution to get that back. Don't want to go through the ordeal and the associated pain of doing a fresh install. There is a command called sfc which is supposed to correct things and which has to be run with the XP CD in. I can't recall the syntax.

Gets Deleted Without Going To The Recycle Bin

Feb 6, 2005

The bin says it has something in it but when I open the bin there is nothing. When I press empty recycle bin it gives me the usual warning, 'Are you sure you want to delete these files', But the bin still has the full icon and if i press empty bin again, The same thing happens. Also, When deleting files it says, 'Do you wish to delete?' and gets deleted without going to the recycle bin. I have checked my recycle bins properties and the box 'Delete without sending to recycle bin' is not checked.

Can't Empty RECYCLE Bin

On an XP PC, when I try to empty the RECYCLE BIN I get an error message: Cannot Delete dc2: Access is denied (If you click OK, you get the window again. Click OK the second time and it goes away)... and it fails to empty it. I can go into the BIN and do a CTRL A and hit delete and all is fine. Recycle Bin Cannot Restore

Sep 3, 2007

I have an XP system where something moved the c:windows folder to the recycle bin.The recycle bin still says it is there, but I can't restore it.There are at least a half dozen threads on the site where someone sites this same problem, though they get to the same conclusion from different original problems.I have tried going into the profile for the recycle bin and adjusting the slider like was suggested in one thread.Same thread sent me to a site that put something in the registry. That didn't work.Got an un-delete program, it won't let me un-delete the folder.Found SFC and ran that.No effect. There has to be a way to recover the windows folder without doing a system restore and losing all of my applications.

TWO Recycle Bins?

Sep 2, 2006

How come there are two recycle bins? Go to C:RECYCLER and then (for me anyway) there are two recycle bins. They are both named with really long names and if you open either one you can see the contents of your normal recycle bin (on desktop). I first thought one was for backup, but if you delete something from one, it is gone from the other too, as well as the desktop one.Can anyone tell me why there are two...and while I'm on the subject of odd folders, can I ask what those crazy long-named folders are in C:? Here's an example (I won't copy the whole thing incase it's a serial number or something)C:43ef642d5b...I think they may both be service pack stuff (as in SP1 and SP2) as they both have MS stuff in. An I right?AND...can anyone get into their "System Volume Information" (in C:)? I am forbidden from taking a peek (and I AM admin). Are there any other folders that I cannot view?

Why Is The Recycle Bin Set By Percentage?

Jul 25, 2005

This was a major oversight of Microsoft. On a 200-300gb HDD even 1% is too much space to use for the recycle bin. Some people may like using 2-3gb on the recycle bin but I on't. If it had the option to set the size in mb's there would be no need for this post. It's all about options. Get with the program Bill.

RB.tmp Files In Recycle Bin

The worst part is - all content of the recycle bin is disappearing next day (except this files).Click on "proprties" of these files gives: 0 bites, origin: recycler. The mistery started (at least I noticed it) soon after I switched from Norton to Rogers Protection (wrong move?).

Can Not Delete A Folder From The Recycle Bin

Mar 13, 2005

I have a folder that I can not delete. I had a bunch of folders with music files in them. I was re-arranging, renaming, and deleting them. At the end of the day, there was one folder that I could not delete from the recycle bin. When I tried to empty the recycle bin, it would delete files until it got to this one. Then I would get the message:(Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk). I would then have to go into the recycle bin and delete the remaining files manually. But this one would still not delete out of the recycle bin.

The error I get is: "Are you sure you want to delete these 55 items?" (Yes) "Cannot delete (long filename): the filename you specified is invalid or too long. Specify a different filename." The problem is, the recycle bin appears empty when viewed, and I've tried making sure all hidden files and folders are shown.I've tried ForceDelete (on the weird file/folder/whatever in c: ecycler) and it did not work.I've also tried removing and replacing the registry entry for the recycle bin, it did not correct the problem. Is there a way perhaps to do this in DOS? What would the exact command/location be? I've tried "deltree C:

Can't Delete File In Recycle Bin

Feb 14, 2005

I'm using Windows XP - the other day I scanned a film negative into Adobe Photoshop, tweaked it then saved it. Yesterday I was tidying up and binned the file because I no longer needed it. Then, doing routine PC 'maintenance' I went to empty my Recycle Bin and couldn't remove this particular file. I get the message: "Cannot delete Dc4: It is being used by another program or person. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." The filename is actually Scans2. I know of no programs running that might be using this scan. I read some other help sites, downloaded a utility called Mboot but couldn't select the file to drag and drop into Mboot's space. I can't rename it, move it, restore it or delete it ! I give up - I know this isn't a major problem but I worry about viruses and the like - I have Norton Firewall and anti-virus etc. all up to date.

Can't Delete Psd Files From Recycle Bin

Feb 20, 2007

I deleted some large (2 to 3MB) Photoshop files in order to free up disk space, but two of them cannot be deleted or moved from recycle bin. "Empty recycle bin" command or "Delete command" yield the following error message; [error messages refer to the files as Dc2 and Dc8, respectively]: "cannot delete Dc8:it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." "Restore" command, attempting to cut and paste, or attempting to drag either file to another folder yield this error message: "cannot move Dc8:it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." This happens even when recycle bin is right-clicked from the desktop icon immediately after start-up and with no programs running.

Recycle Bin Refuses To Empty

Feb 20, 2005

I'm trying to do some general hard-drive cleanup, and deleting temporary files and whatnot. Regardless of how I select any group of files from any directory, or even from the recycle bin, it simply opens the delete dialogue and says it's deleting, but nothing happens. It stays there interminably. Never finishes, never deletes any files. It doesn't hang , I can cancel and stop it, but nothing has happened in the interim. I'm stumped. I did search and follow the thread on an earlier post MSKB, but that didn't help.

What Is File Path For Recycle Bin?

Oct 22, 2006

I was wondering if anyone knows the file path ( if there is one) that would let you open the recycle bin via task manager (new task run) under win2k pro? I just had a call from a friend who, after installing google tool bar (by "mistake" )then used the search function and removed all of the files by hand .The end result was that the pc hung, and when she restarted explorer.exe does not start,(therefore no desktop, start menu etc) task manager does however function and i have managed to get her to open programs that way As she deleted the files to the recycle bin i was wondering if there is a way to restore them by opening the recycle bin threw task manager? if there is then presumably i would need to give her the file path, and was wondering :-
A/ if it is possible to do this &
B/ (if it is) if any kind person knows the file path to the recycle bin .exe ? I realize that this might not be possible and it might seem a lot more involved than simply poping in the win2k CD and doing a repair on the OS, but having done this with her before i know it will mean spelling out every action.
