All of my removable drives seem to have disappeared. I'e been on TweakUI in the Control anel and looked at the drives in there and all of them except from my local and disk drive have red crosses through them... It's the drive I use for my camera card

All of a sudden my PC isn't finding a removable drive when i plug my camera into the USB port. I'm trying to copy pics from my digital camera and have always used the removable drive function in My Computer...now it's not working. other USB hardware (keyboard, mouse etc) are working fine. I've changed the cable, installed the camera driver disk, tried finding new hardware, and tried different USB ports to no avail.Camera is an Episilom 1.3 digital dreams and is working fine. Running Win XP SP2 on AMD Semprom 2800+ 2 GHz processor. Mobo is ASRock K7Upgrade-600

Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows XP Professional SP2 on an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MB. I have 5 internal HDD's and 2 external USB drives, I also have 2 DVD R/RW +- Dual Density drives, a Zip 250 and an Orb 2GB drive. So far this year I have had to reinstall my Windows like 8 times and done about 4 Windows repairs! Each time I seem to get 4 extra removable drives added to my system. In Disk Manager they are listed as "Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device", I have changed Device Usage to Do Not use this device (disable) and also I have uninstalled each device. Unfortunately, each time I restart the computer, they come back, shifting other drives to another drive letter.

Dont know where they came from, but every time I start or re-start my PC the "SafelyRemove Hardware" icon appears in the right bottom of my screen. Cant get rid of it, and where did these removable drives come from???

One is for MemoryStick, another is SD Cards, CompactFlash, etc. Would it be alright to rename these to something more recognizable at a glance? (for example, rename "Removable Disk (H)" to "SD Card") Or will it somehow mess up the way the drives read the cards?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an odd issue with diskmgmt.msc or the disk managment feature of computer management (both the same thing). Anyway, it displays my fixed hard drive in my laptop just fine, however my SD/MMC cards, CD/DVD drives, external drives, etc.....do not show up. They are recognized however, and I can access my drive G: (the SD card) just fine through explorer and my computer. Is there any reason why they're not showing up in my disk management console? and is there a way to fix this?

It's really a problem now, because I can't just not back my stuff up forever, I have to get this sorted out.I have a PC that I keep all my stuff on, run uTorrent on, my media center application, etc. It's got 8 HDDs. Half for storage, half for backup. 5TB overall (well less...but you know). I have an application that runs once a day to sync the drives with their counterparts. Everything was fine, until I got a new motherboard and CPU for the system.Now.....whenever I run my backups, this message will appear. Either very rapidly, or at some point during. The whole system will slow to a near halt (it can take 30 seconds for the mouse to register movement), and the only course of action is to turn the system off and on again. It's because of this Delayed Write Failed error (it pops up, sometimes immediately....and sometimes if you let the system keep running).
I've looked online for solutions. Some of them say to disable delayed write in the HDD properties. I've done that for most drives (the drives connected to the system via a PCI-E controller card have that tick box option greyed out. Nothing I've tried has made a blind bit of difference.
I have a problem which many others seem to share, which is that the Scanner and Camera Wizard has suddenly ceased to appear automatically when downloading from a camera. Until a few days ago, I could plug my Olympus into my computer with a USB lead, and a box would crop up offering several courses of action. I would choose the one which permitted downloading the camera files to a folder. Next the Scanner and Camera Wizard would pop up, and after a few clicks, the camera files would be downloaded to my hard
drive, and any unwanted shots would be deleted. I mention all this because some people appear to think that the Scanner and Camera Install Wizard is the same thing, but it isn't.Various cures have been put forward, like uninstalling Real Player 10, finding wiaacmgr.exe and renaming it to Scanner and Camera Wizard, and reinstalling the camera. I have tried these without success, and the wiaacmgr file is not present on either of my XP computers (one Pro, the other Home). I have also downloaded Autofix.exe, which found nothing wrong, and tried to persuade Autoplay to do the business.
Just got my first digital camera and all was good until I tried to download pictures to my pc. The microsoft scanner and camera wizard would not pop up when I attached my camera all settings and plugs checked). I found out this may be due to SP2 or Real Time, which I do not have. Has anyone else had this problem and what is the best and quickest fix.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an external hardrive that is 80gb. you can put 74.5gb of info on it. i have 21.4gb of info on it. When i right click on the HD and go to properties it says that i have 8.19gb of space left. last time i checked 74.5 minus 21.4 does not equal 8.19.I had a large file on it. it was about 23gb, when i deleted it the file, the file went away like it was supposed to but the HD space never became available again. How do i fix this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedFirstly I have a pc which I installed Win XP Prof onto. All worked great. Then took out modem card and replaced with ethernet card. Again no problem. However, when I went to boot the compute up a week or so later it went through the boot process and then just before I would expect to see the Windows logo with blue sky background appear I "sometimes" get a blue screen flash up with a message which you cant read unless you can slow down time and then the PC restarts and goes through the whole procedure again.
I did manage to start in Boot logging mode and watch to see where the problem was. It seemed to be something to do with the Display adaptor. I found the appropriate solution on the web and although I now get further on into the boot, it still restarts. When i try to run the logging thing (!) it does not want to play any more and just boots in the normal fashion. I have tried defaulting the BIOS, checking the file system for damaged sectors etc all to no avail.
I have a PC with a built-in media card reader, and when I use the compact flash portion of that reader a certain program is always launched. I would imagine that initially I indicated which program to open. Is there any change to change that program?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have setup a wireless network between two computers in my office and have installed some software that will automatically backup folders on each of the two computers.It work by backing up certain folders on computer 1 to the hard disk on computer 2 and vice versa.I also have a program installed on both computers that uses the data on computer 1.simplify the process of locating the data on my network I have created virtual drives using the Map Network Drives function in Windows. However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".

laptop has got the ZLOB virus and I am trying to get rid of it but I cannot connect to the internet because the drivers for the ethernet card are missing. There is no id on the laptop apart from the COA for XP and Z600 on a sticker underneath it. How can I find out what make it is so I can find the drivers. When she removed the card windows locked up, as soon as she reinserted the card windows worked fine. She removed the mini SD card from the adapter to use in her phone, and windows still worked fine, but as soon as she removed the Mini SD adapter from the card reader windows locked up and the windows would hang during start-up with out the adapter. Reinserting the adapter cured the freeze and hang, but windows ran very slow.I removed and reinstalled the card reader drivers and was able to remove the adapter, but windows still hangs on start-up with out the adapter placed in the slot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan you create a pagefile.sys on removable HDD's? I apparently cannot. I wanted to set an initial and max Pagefile amount of 500MB to 750MB each across all drives except C. Even though the system "seems" to have set the amount of space I allocated in the Virtual Memory section, it has created only ONE 500MB pagefile.sys on my H (fixed) drive. That amount is confirmed on the Advanced Tab for Performance Options section by the statement "Total Paging File For All Drives: 500". I have set a small initial and max amount of 2MB to 50MB on my system drive (C) which is recommended since you do not want a large swap file on the same HDD as your OS, but that does not show neither. Why did the system not create the other Swap Files? Does it have to need it before it creates it?

In this case, I will have two of these removable hard drives, only one of which will be in use at any time, swapping in and out with each other every week.Since these hard drives will also contain the OS, how do I deal with XP licensing and authentication? Since there's only *one* computer, can I install and authorize a single copy of XP (Pro) on both removable hard drives? It seems unfair I would have to buy two copies of XP if only one is going to be used on the single computer at any given time.
