Why does "Domains," with urls of sites I never visited and do not want contained in my Registry, repeatedly reappear after I have deleted the "Domains" key? Deleting the key has not affected my computers operation nor my browsing. But the key reinstalls itself!
I have a friend using a dell laptop, which she carries from home to office. She has a Compaq printer at the office, connected via usb.Every time she plugs in the usb cable for the printer, her laptop installs another instance of the same printer. Annoying as heck -checked once and she had a dozen or so of the same printer.Any ideas how to get rid of this? I think she said that it only happens if the laptop is on and then she plugs in the printer. If she remembers to hook up the usb cable before booting the laptop,
in the last month I've had to reinstall xp because my pc would stop booting and give the error message "windows cannot start due to missing or corrupt system file confid.sys." I've done fdisk 4 times before being told I should Format so the last time I had to reinstall I formatted. I have 2 problems righ tnow. First, in my craziness I had xp install twice today and have 2 versions on NTSF so I don't know if I can uninstall as it doesn't allow thru Add/remove Programs...Second problem. I'm told by some techs at work that I must have a virus in my mbr. I used the command fixnbr without really having more of a prayer than knowledge. I run antivurus multiple times a day because of my probs. What prg do I need to find a problem in my MBR? This pc is less than 5 months old and Dell is not very helpful on the phone.
My fax printer driver must have become corrupted because the console said there was no printer driver installed. I went to Add Windows Components, added Fax again and nothing happened. Went to Printers/Add Printer and let the wizard add a fax driver and it came up with a Microsoft Office Document Image Driver on LPT1. Fax Console still complains there is no fax driver, so I'm assuming that's the wrong printer driver.I'd like to force the install of a printer driver but I don't know what port it's supposed to be on and where to go to look for the driver.
This problem is now resolved: here is the fix that worked for me in case anyone else can use it. I tried a fix I found by Googling, applied it, and it did not work. This morning I called the Microsoft toll free number for Security issues (on their web site reached.Go into add remove programs and uninstall the msxml update kb945530. Close and go to windows update (start, all programs, near top of list). Click on express update: the update should now show on the list. Reinstall the update, then restart your computer. This worked for me and I hope it helps someone else who has the problem.
I want to backup my Autocomplete User Names and Passwords, Web Addresses, and Forms entries in the registry. What are the registry addresses for these items?
I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.
I have entries in my Windows XP Professional Registry that are no longer needed. When I try to delete these entries the registry editor will not allow me to delete the entries. Is there a way that I can delete/remove these registry entries?

I foolishly deleted something in my registry. Now I cannot access the internet from a program that wants to communicate with it to register the product or collect information via the internet, such as Print Master.
On my box at home, I have Norton System Works, which contains a registry diagnostic/sweeper.At work, where I run Windows 2000 Pro, I was wondering...I know there are various registry diagnostic & cleaner utilities out there on the web, but I thought I had heard that Windows itself either includes one on the OS disc or makes one available for download. Is there such a thing as an official Windows Registry utility?
How can you see what is in the registry? I have Windows Home Edition XP. I know there are registry's on the computer left from other programs when they are deleted. Such as Norton especially. I heard that an overloaded registry can slow up your computer. Also, does anyone know of a good freeware registry cleaner? Am I asking for trouble looking into the registry.
I want to change my registry so that ALL downloads from the Internet go to a folder of MY choice, not M/S choice. These files include photos, text, PPS, pdf, wmv files, and others. Is there some way to change my registry to make this happen? I am tired of switching to that folder every time I try to download something. I am using XP and AOL. I have set AOL to do this, but Windows refuses to do it automatically.
Okay, a few months ago i installed an app called REGISTRY MECHANIC. it was supposed to make my computer work better. after compacting the registry, i restarted to find out the laptop didn't start any more.a few months went by and finally i got a copy of WINDOWS XP HOME. i went into the REPAIR CONSOLE and replaced the boot sectors and the mbr boot sectors... still nothing... so,i went ahead and installed WINDOWS XP HOME... now, when it starts up it asks me to choose between 2 versions of WINDOWS, the older one or the new one...so, now MY DOCUMENTS a nowhere to be found...what i'm thinking i need to do is reformat the drive and use the installer cd that came with the laptop to get it up and running again (drivers, etc.)...but, there's one problem:
I have several registry cleaning tools on my PC like registry mechanic,WinASO registry Optimizer and those included in my programs ASMW PC-Optimizer,Tune-up utilities and WinTools.net Professional. One thing I am puzzled is that all the registry cleaning tools have found certain problems when I run one after another.Once i completed my registry scan using all above tools and fix all problems,I can't understand why a number of registry problems still exist the next day.I did not carry out any important task other than just spend the most 1 hr of web surfing. Recommend a more powerful registry cleaning tool to curb such problem.
What are recommended programs for cleaning your registry? I tried to use Registry Mechanic, but for some reason it gave me the error message that it could not locate the file map.dat,I verified that the file was there in the correct location. Are there any other programs I could try?
I want to clean my registry,i never clean my registry before. how safe is it? i instill alot of programs and uninstill alot too. now i got 2 nero in my add/remove . and theres alot programs i want to try again but cant because they are still in my registry. any tips before i try it? i downloaded "EasyCleaner"
I have Windows xp Home. How many times should I clean out the registry? I have done a lot of cleaning of files and registry entries in the past but do not know what would be a acceptible limit for a guy who uses his pc everday most of the day. I like it fast I have 2 gigs of ram and use an dsl connect and a Intel App acclelerator. Sometomes wierd things happen like my floppy disk will run for a split second after I am on the pc for about 30 min. then stop and my pc will not always boot up and say that an improper frequency has happened. After I re-boot all is well. This does not happen all the time.
I have a hard drive out of a laptop that i am backing up all there files so i can reformat there laptop drive, how do I copy there regestery so that all there links to the programs would work.
I accidently updated to "USB" keyboard & mouse drivers, & now I can't do a thing after XP boots.I've tried Safe-Mode (knew that wouldn't work) Is it possible to restore the registry thru DOS? Maybe System Restore thru DOS?
im using xp sp2 and i downloaded ancanced windows care3 and did a deep registry clean, it found 900 more problems than my noraml registry cleaner(tune-up utilities) so i decided do it. after i rebooted i played a game and my computer just froze still. i now have this persisting freezing that generally when i play a game or watch movies(otherwise it seems to be fine but does happen sometimes while even just idle or looking through files). i really think its my registry.
