What Is Purpose Of Compressed / Zip Folder?
Sep 20, 2008On my profile I entered under experience, "Sometimes smart, Sometimes dumb". This is a "sometimes dumb" question. Exactly what is the purpose of a compressed or zip file? I use a geneology program that automatically compresses data when you save a file so that a large amount of data can be stored on a floppy disk.
I recently sent some information to an individual via email and that person requested that I use snail mail instead because it took forever to download on their dial up connection. Using "properties" I look at the size of the file at it was 2.25 MB. I thought perhaps compressing the data would not take it so long to download so I placed it in a Windows XP Compressed folder and then looked at the size of that folder and it was 2.19 MB. Not much of a reduction and would probably take just as long for that person to download. Am I doing something wrong?

Aug 26, 2007I found this post at a home-recording forum that I read. It sounds like a good set-up for my own personal needs, but I thought I'd post it here and get a few opinions about it. If you have the space for it on your software harddrive, make an extra partition (a physical harddrive can be divided into several logical drives, behaving as different harddrives) for only music work and a partition for all the other stuff. You can have 2 different installs of windows (doesen't even have to be the same version) on the two partitions, so you can uptimize the one for music and keep it free of all the ekstra software that you want to have on your everyday office/gaming computer. I've done that since I started using my computers as DAWs 4 years ago, and it works very well.
How to setup a multipartition system:
*If installing all over, and able to format the whole harddrive (By far the best solution!!)*
1a. Backup anything on the harddrive that you might need again to another physical drive or another computer.
2a. Boot from the Windows installation disk and use the menus in the beginning to delete any existing partitions on the harddrive (will delete EVERYTHING on the disk, so backup FIRST if reusing a harddrive)...............

I just want to make sure this download won't interfere with with current McAfee services, music downlading from Napster, Rhapsody or whatever, or AOL or SBC/Yahoo DSL connections. Registry Mechanic Does Not Delete Registry Entries
Jul 13, 2006I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

Oct 11, 2005I have several registry cleaning tools on my PC like registry mechanic,WinASO registry Optimizer and those included in my programs ASMW PC-Optimizer,Tune-up utilities and WinTools.net Professional.One thing I am puzzled is that all the registry cleaning tools have found certain problems when I run one after another.Once i completed my registry scan using all above tools and fix all problems,I can't understand why a number of registry problems still exist the next day.I did not carry out any important task other than just spend the most 1 hr of web surfing.
Recommend a more powerful registry cleaning tool to curb such problem.

I have done a lot of cleaning of files and registry entries in the past but do not know what would be a acceptible limit for a guy who uses his pc everday most of the day. I like it fast I have 2 gigs of ram and use an dsl connect and a Intel App acclelerator. Sometomes wierd things happen like my floppy disk will run for a split second after I am on the pc for about 30 min. then stop and my pc will not always boot up and say that an improper frequency has happened. After I re-boot all is well. This does not happen all the time.
