I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

On my box at home, I have Norton System Works, which contains a registry diagnostic/sweeper.At work, where I run Windows 2000 Pro, I was wondering...I know there are various registry diagnostic & cleaner utilities out there on the web, but I thought I had heard that Windows itself either includes one on the OS disc or makes one available for download. Is there such a thing as an official Windows Registry utility?

These files include photos, text, PPS, pdf, wmv files, and others. Is there some way to change my registry to make this happen? I am tired of switching to that folder every time I try to download something. I am using XP and AOL. I have set AOL to do this, but Windows refuses to do it automatically.
View 14 Replies View RelatedOkay, a few months ago i installed an app called REGISTRY MECHANIC. it was supposed to make my computer work better. after compacting the registry, i restarted to find out the laptop didn't start any more.a few months went by and finally i got a copy of WINDOWS XP HOME. i went into the REPAIR CONSOLE and replaced the boot sectors and the mbr boot sectors... still nothing... so,i went ahead and installed WINDOWS XP HOME... now, when it starts up it asks me to choose between 2 versions of WINDOWS, the older one or the new one...so, now MY DOCUMENTS a nowhere to be found...what i'm thinking i need to do is reformat the drive and use the installer cd that came with the laptop to get it up and running again (drivers, etc.)...but, there's one problem:
I have uninstalled several programs from my computer.
I was wondering if it is safe to delete the system file in the Registry? or if something bad would happen?
I have several registry cleaning tools on my PC like registry mechanic,WinASO registry Optimizer and those included in my programs ASMW PC-Optimizer,Tune-up utilities and WinTools.net Professional. One thing I am puzzled is that all the registry cleaning tools have found certain problems when I run one after another.Once i completed my registry scan using all above tools and fix all problems,I can't understand why a number of registry problems still exist the next day.I did not carry out any important task other than just spend the most 1 hr of web surfing.
Recommend a more powerful registry cleaning tool to curb such problem.
What are recommended programs for cleaning your registry? I tried to use Registry Mechanic, but for some reason it gave me the error message that it could not locate the file map.dat,I verified that the file was there in the correct location. Are there any other programs I could try?

I have done a lot of cleaning of files and registry entries in the past but do not know what would be a acceptible limit for a guy who uses his pc everday most of the day. I like it fast I have 2 gigs of ram and use an dsl connect and a Intel App acclelerator. Sometomes wierd things happen like my floppy disk will run for a split second after I am on the pc for about 30 min. then stop and my pc will not always boot up and say that an improper frequency has happened. After I re-boot all is well. This does not happen all the time.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was using the RegCleaner and clearing out some unused keys made by programs i no longer had on the computer. It was simple enough and nothing going wrong, no harm done. I went to go take a piss and when i came back i found my buddy on my PC.He asked "what the H*** is all this??" and i said "its my registry" and he goes "o you dont need any of that" and no sooner did those words come outa his mouth did he press Shift + A & DELETE and poof..all my reg keys were gone.i dunno if i have a back up present.what i can say is that every time i try to click on something now it says its either been moved, deleted, or renamed..nothing works anymore besides my internet. i cant even run .zip files because it says there is no program to do it with. theres no program to "open" files with. all because my screw up friend over here decided he knew what he was doin with my pc.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to reinstall Nero, but it crashes during installation. I am in discussion with Ahead tech support, but I *think* the problem is with the registry. The Local_MachineSoftware tree has a key titled 'Ahead'. But when I select it I get an error message: Cannot open Ahead: Error opening key.The name, type, and data fields are all blank. I cannot delete or rename the key. I think that it causes the crash during installation when it tries to install one or more keys to that tree.I have used a registry cleaner, which from what I read here, I shouldn't have.

On the menu bar click on file, then export, choose where you want to save it, then enter a name for it in the box titled: File Name. At bottom put a tick in "All", then click on save. If you ever want to restore the saved version, just IMPORT it. System Restore (it should save a copy daily, but you can always create a restore point manually. The best method, in my opinion, is to download and run ERUNT. It's the best registry backup utility available.
