Recovery Mode ? Reboot Cycle

Mar 30, 2010

Hi, I am running an old Packard Bell Easynote bought in about 2005, with an AMD processor and Windows XP. The power supply recently broke so I've been using a new one. I think its quite cheap as quite often the power suddenly cuts out, and I have to wiggle it about and then it works again.

The other day I turned on the laptop and it comes up with a black screen with message in white typeface saying that i didn't shut down properly last time, and therefore do I want to start in XP or in Recovery Mode. I go to XP and the following appears

PC Stuck In Reboot Cycle

Aug 29, 2007

I recently had a new PC built for me by a friend of mine. It had some problems intially so he re-installed Windows XP and changed the RAM voltage to 1.90 in the Setup menu as the PC boots up.Anyways, he kept my PC for about 2 weeks while I was on vacation, running various programs and using it for all kinds of tasks on a regular basis, and everything was fine.I've had it home for a couple of weeks now. Every once in awhile something seemed wrong, but usually a good reboot would solve any problems...so no big deal. However, within the past week, it's had terrible troubles rebooting. This is basically what will happen.
A. It will boot up to the Windows loading screen, but right before it gets to the screen where you select a user, it crashes with a quick flash of the blue screen of death (I see it for like 1/5 of a second--so I can't read what it says) and reboots. Sometimes when it reboots I get the option to boot up in Safe mode. When the problems first started, I could boot up in Safe Mode, restart from Safe mode and everything would be fine. Now, however, I'm usually not so lucky.
B.When I finally get it booted up, I'll get some Error about a Registry file that had to be recovered from an alternate copy: Recovery was successful. After that, I usually get error reports for the following programs. These are the most common programs that will randomly cease to function, but there are usually some other error codes thrown in there too.
1. MSN Live Messenger
2. GoogleChat (internal error)
3. AcroTray
4. AVG anti-virus
5. Logitech Messenger
C. Here are some other errors I have recieved at random times. Some I've got only once in many reboots, others have shown up a few times. The most recent ones are at the bottom.
1. Nvidia Driver error
2. SoundMax
3. Smax4PNP
4. Exception has occurred while trying to run C: Windows/system32/NVCPl.dll/NVstartup
5. Some error with SetfilePoanter/Kennel32.dll
6. Runtime error System32/svchost.exe
7. Windows has recovered from a serious error.

Chkdsk Stuck In Reboot Cycle

May 10, 2005

I had a thread on here before, but it got deleted so I'm starting a new one with fresh new problem.I set chkdsk /r to run on system startup, and it ran but took forever to scan file data (I left it running for 4 days) so I rebooted but it started chkdsk again! Theres obviously something telling it to run the scan on next startup because it never finished the first time. Now if I run it it just freezes at 0% for checking file data.It I go into startup options and tell it to boot in safe mode, it shows it loading all the drivers and then pauses and says "Press Esc to cancel loading a347bus.sys" and whether I press Esc or not it freezes. If I do last known good configuration, it runs into the chkdsk problem again.

PC Locked Into Constant Reboot Cycle

Oct 6, 2009

Despite advice to the contrary my youngest son has taken to shutting his PC off by turning off the power on the back of the computer. Now it wont boot. It starts loading windows (shows the splashscreen) but then reboots, goes into the set up option page, ie safe mode/safemode with networking/last known good configuration and so on. Only I cant get it into safe mode or last known good configuation...just reboots and goes through the whole thing again. Tried repairing windows with the install disk but get to Recovery Console and then I don't know what to do-I just get a command prompt for C drive , like its awaiting a command but I dont know what command to give it. I cant see any other option to repair the installation. I dont want to format the drive and reinstall Windows unless i can help it.too much software to reinstall and lost game data!

Reboot Cycle And Minidump Translation

Oct 14, 2009

My computer is in a reboot cycle, always asking the standard "boot windows normally, safe mode, last good known configuration..." It loads Safe mode fine. When looking at the minidumps it points to 'ntkrpamp.exe.' When I look that up I find a lot of hits about the RAM. I have 2 sticks in and I've tried swapping and using only one etc. with no luck. I was able to get the computer to work once after forcing a scandisk /r, but after rebooting it got stuck in it's cycle again. The minidump also says:ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000218 - {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): %hs or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Removed Older Applications - Reboot Cycle

Nov 1, 2007

It became very slow towards the evening and today I tried to restart it but it wouldn't reboot. It keeps going in the cycle from Windows starting up screen to Check disk screen and again back to black screen and rebooting.

Earlier today I was checking the C: and removing some of older applications which we are no longer using (via Ad/remove programs) and I have noticed that the C: and My documents looked strange. Lots of 'Found.???' files, lots of NFS(or something similar) files and for some reason number of pdf files (which originally belong to completely different folders).generally looked all re-organized and strange.

System Wont Start Up - Reboot Cycle

Jan 27, 2008

I just got a hand-me down sony vaio desktop.

My mother isn't tech savvy and had a few errors with it not wanting to boot up. As sony didn't include the windows XP disk (or even a simple recovery disk) she decided to buy a new system outright. So I inherited it.

I tried installing my main HD from my other PC into it, but it wouldn't recognize it at all unless it was as a slave. I hooked the vaio's HD to my PC and took the essential files that were to be saved from it (music, pictures, etc...) and then formatted it.

Network Adapter Infinite Reboot Cycle

Oct 16, 2008

I had the problem with the infinite reboot cycle. I fixed that by just clearing out my whole hard drive, in other words full restore. But now the problem is, I can't find my LAN in my network connections. The only thing it shows is MSN and I dont use that. I use a router with all wires and I share the internet with me and my dad. Its modem to router to my computer and my dads computer. So i go to device manager and what do you know? I also cant find my network adapter option in it.

I tried to install that old drive into the other computer and boot off of it and see if it can see the files on the busted SATA drive. It boots up and the XP loading screen flickers very quickly and then the system reboots. If I start it in safe mode, it also reboots while its loading all the drivers. The last driver it shows is "agp440.sys"

HP Laptop With Stuck In Reboot Cycle / Error Encountered That Prevents Setup From Continuing

Jan 12, 2009

A friend of mine gave me an HP Pavilion ze4400. It had Windows XP installed on it when he gave it to me. I moved out of the area and forgot to take the XP CD with me. I was having problems with picking up wireless networks using my USB wireless adapter. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program for the adapter didn't fix anything, in fact, it made it worse. So I thought I would try using an XP CD to correct the problems that way. I had no idea that XP CDs weren't all the same.I put the CD that I had for my IBM laptop in the HP and it started to install. After about 10 minutes or so, I got a "Fatal Error":"An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. The operation was canceled by the user.Press OK to view the Setup log file"The Systel Setup Log:"Error:The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invalid. Stuck In A Boot Cycle - Black Screen With Options To Start In Safe Mode

Aug 25, 2008

My main pc is stuck in a boot cycle giving me the black screen with options to start in safe mode etc etc and when selecting one of those options it reboots to the same point. When I press return the system tries to start it attempts it, clicks then goes back to boot cycle. The Windows XP system disk won't cut in like it should so I cannot gain control of the pc.

System is a Dell, 2years old and has had various viruses despite having the usual protection. I am currently using my old trusty Advent Pentium 3 for this message (which has never had the same degree of virus prob's curiously). After the first virus Dell talked me through using Ghost - brilliant. Within a couple of days it was hit again and usinng Spybot got rid of the virus but PC kept displaying the message rundll.dll file damaged. So I used XP Recovery seemingly with no problem only to find it won't reboot.

Whenever I boot the computer I get a Windows Installer box pop up trying to load SFR. It tries to gather data, gets halfway and then disappears. It does this twice before it stops trying. Sometimes it will re-appear while I try to open files. Does the same as above then stops. How can I get rid of this?

Unable To Reboot From Recovery Disc

I have just bought a new PC so I could let the kids have the other one in their room. Both PC's are emachines and run XP. I have successfully networked the two with a crossover cable but I thought I'd reboot the old one to clear it from all the stuff I had on it. When I start the PC up with the recovery disk in either the D or E drive it doesn't get recognized and just goes strait to the user page. Any ideas on how I can get round this? I can enter the set up stage by pressing Del but i'm a bit green on this!

I cannot find an option to make the CD boot first, only the option to enable of disable the different IDE devices. I have played with all those options and nothing works. The thing is that this version of the xp didn't come with an installation disk for me to reboot the sequence so it keeps asking me for a diskette. I can't even go into safe mode only the f2 setup. PLEASE help me! I really don't want to lose my files.

system won't reboot at all. I can get into BIOS area but once it continues past that the wireless keyboard is disabled and therefore I can't select Safe Mode or Last working config mode. It continues into Windows XP and then crashes and reboots again.Ideally I need to be able to make the wireless keyboard work so I can get into Safe Mode, uninvoke the Driver Verifier somehow at the BIOS stage

Repair By Using Recovery Console - Safe Mode

May 5, 2010

I rebooted, and instead of coming up directly to my desktop, it came up with the log-in screen for the Administrator and me. I selected me, and it came up in safe-mode with the cmd shell. Ok, this is important... I went into msconfig, and safe-mode was NOT selected. So thinking that I needed to do a repair, I inserted my original XP disc and booted into the recovery console. First, I did the normal stuff, like chkdsk and so forth. I also looked at my boot.ini. Everything appeared normal. So I rebooted, same problem.

Went back into the recovery console and did a repair. Everything went along smoothly and guess what! After the first reboot, it gave me the infamous "You are in Safe Mode... you can't do what you are doing in safe mode... you are a bad person and you need to be punished". (Obviously, I'm paraphrasing here). And I'm in the endless reboot cycle. So, I've tried everything (almost) and I would prefer not to do a full re-install. I tried using bootcfg, but this didn't help any since it doesn't say "safe-mode". (Although I did go through the motions). I also deleted my boot.ini and it gave me an error message (no boot.ini, or whatever), and still got stuck in the endless reboot cycle. I also did a fixboot, which didn't help either. And I attempted to do a fixmbr, but I got scared from the "if you do this you are really screwed" message, and didn't proceed.

Avg / Adware Fail In Removing Virus - Error Reboot In Safe Mode

Aug 11, 2009

I'll try to remember, to the best of my ability, the sequence of events...Suffice it to say that I downloaded and tried to install something I shouldn't have. I Immediately tried to get out of the errors from AVG (free version) and stop the install. All seems good, then IE keeps opening to bogus ad sites. I realize I've got something. AVG and AdAware both fail in removing this Win32Trojan.tdss (I think AVG gave me this description). AVG tells me to reboot to remove it properly. Reboot throws me into "can't verify this installation of Windows". Boot in safe mode work, then I get the same error on reboot...even in safe mode.

I don't have the original Windows CD (separated from husband and software at the same time; cannot find any software now), but it's a Dell and it came with Windows XP Home (product key on box), but I installed XP Pro instead. Don't know what product key was used or how to get it.....

Missing NTLDR Shocker - Recovery Mode Doesn't Work

Jul 5, 2010

Well I seem to have encountered a problem numerous other people have encountered and well im rather desperate to fix it though i must list 2 important details

1. I have a HP- Pavilion Windows XP mediacenter edition.
2. My recovery mode does not work and my computer never came with a recovery disc of any sort (grrrr stupid idea to put the recovery on the computer IMO)
3. I have little money to spend as of right now. Buying a new computer not an option and buying a new windows operating system is MAYBE a option but one ide like to avoid.
4. Im more curious as to how i should tackle this. Ive read up on a few sites found a site that gives a bootable disc containing the NTLDR file ( I dont know a whole lot about this stuff)

This is all just very aggrivating for me. My computer works and runs better than most new computers despite bieng 4 years old. This is the first issue ive had with it in awhile other than my recovery not working due to a error about a hive file not working ( i figured ide make a seperate thread if i choose to worry about this issue but if some one finds this to be a important detail please do tell me) Also ive looked into purchasing the spotmau disc for it 'adervtises' it is able to fix this problem. How reliable they are i am not sure of how ever.

Data Lost After System Recovery - Can Access Files In Safe Mode

Jan 24, 2007

my question concerns an HP Pavillion Desktop with Windows XP Home Edition Operating System. About a week ago my computer was degenerating to such a condition that it would no longer start up properly: it would not load some of the host process properly at start up and the desk top would not appear. The system would hang up, and the only way I could access files was in safe mode.So I decided to do a Full System Recovery and allow the computer to restore itself to some sort of usable condition. Upon completing the initial set up I was presented with, I pressed FINISH and the system froze again, refusing to load the desktop.
So, perhaps foolishly, I attempted a System Recovery from the Recovery DVDs the computer had prompted me to make a while ago, as well as a few more System Restores and Recoveries
