View 2 Replies View RelatedI protected my personal files in WXP and made an Acronis true image of the disk. After a disk crash, I rebuilt a new disk instead of using the image but want to get to my personal files by using the Acronis image mount utility. The tool works pretty well, the image looks like drive "G" when mounted and I can see all of my files, except for the personal ones. My new WXP load has the same user name, password, and computer name as the old one did. However, the NTFS security will not let me see or take ownership of my personal files. I dont want to have to restore the old image just to get my files but will if I have to. Any ideas for an easier way?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with Win XP not loading. It stops during the loading process. It does not matter if I try a normal boot, any of the safe mode boots or boot from a startup disk. I know what he problem and what the for the problem is, but I do not know how to accomplish the fix. The problem is caused by a corrupted driver file (agp440.sys). This is for video. If I do a normal boot it stops at tis file. The fix is to disable the file. But to do that I have to have Win loaded. I need a utility that will by pass the Win boot process and give me access to the files on the HDD so I can disable the agp440.sys file. I cannot find such a utility.
Some startup/recovery disks claim to not use Win to boot, but the one's I have tried stop installing at the same place Win XP stops, at the agp440.sys file. MS has a KB for the problem, but it requires being able to access the files on the HDD and disable the agp440.sys file. I could take the HDD out and connect it to another box to do the disabling, but I currently do not have another box. I an in a remote location without easy access to another computer. how I can make the repair without erasing the HDD, reformatting it and reinstalling everything?
Ok, using this help website, http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how...air_a_stop.htm I am at the harder method, but encountered some problems.md tmp(nothing really happened not sure if anything was supposed to) copy c:windowssystem32configsystem c:window mpsystem.bak (copied fine) copy c:windowssystem32config software c:windowmpsoftware.bak (it says the file can not be copied). Do I go on with the rest of the tutorial, or where exactly do I go from here? Is there any possibility that I will not have to reformat and get my old computer back?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAm attempting to delete three old zip/unzip driver folders so I can install updated versions of the drivers, but every time I go to delete, a warning pops-up stating ...."nothing to do"......, then it slowly (crawls, actually) begins, stating..... "deleting from archive". The files are full, so there's obvious data that needs to be removed despite the warning that there's nothing to do. At the speed this thing is deleting, if at all, it will take days. My question is, why can't I do a conventional uninstall/deletion the way most files are deleted, and why is it requiring so much time? (FYI, once this process starts, the only way to stop it is to do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE- just canceling doesn't do a thing), I have to remove thes drivers before installing the new versions. Is there another method of removing these files

View 8 Replies View RelatedI know that most of us have had a dll issue at some time or another. However, with xp pro, I have been lucky enough not to have any at all.
A pc has been cursed with dllhell, so please suggest any ideas/solutions.
Before xp pro has finished booting (which takes ages anyway) the following message appears:-
'the ordinal 6663 could not be located in dll mfc42.dll' (related to launapp)
A possibly related issue to this is that some strange things happen with the system (windows explorer crashes and restarts if some programs are opened, or if I access the external usb disc drive. It makes sense to deal with one problem at a time.
I hear alot of people saying to use Microsoft Knowledge Base to find most of my answers, but they do not tell where I have to go to find it.

I would like to be able to copy and paste all of my "spam rules" from my computer onto the system of other family members using a USB storage device. This would end up saving considerable time by avoiding the input of over 150 words (this amount is always growing), one at a time, into each computers OE mail modification security feature. I've look in the WINOWS folder and can't find where the OE files are all kept, and specifically, the spam rules. I've been to the OE folder before but can't remember for the life of me what the address is.
