I have a HP machine running XP Pro SP2 on a windows SBS 2003 network with about 10 other machines attached to the same domain. When the machine in question starts up it seems to get stuck on "Running start up scripts" for anywhere up to 45 minutes. I have tried all sorts of things to sort this out but nothing has worked. None of the other machines are experiencing this problem.

Run AVG free, windows defender, threatfire, spybot.I am on a cable hookup with a linksys BEFSR41 router. Turn off the computer each night.Right now I am using a laptop connected to the router to access the internet. the desktop would take a long time to start up applications but when they did start up things ran ok. This morning, I power up and the computer will go thru the speed start up list but will not start up anything from the start menu, just get the hour glass. On start alt delete, it says 99 percent system idle. On start up I hit the f10 key to start up a compaq system restore and it will not go.get the message system registry file failure, hive file, system root system32 configsecurity corrupt, absent, or not write able.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows XP halts and will not load Windows Explorer after the welcome screen An error message states that windows has encountered a problem and will close....Leaving me with a "Blue screen" I am able to get to my files only by "ctrl, alt, delete" and selecting browse at the task mngr. Or, I can log on as a guest where everything is normal again, but without administrative power. I have tried logging off the admin, then re-booting..no change. Performed a virus check, spy ware check, system restore, which is how this all began in the first place! I even tried re-installing XP. Nothing has worked yet. Ther are no service packs or updates of any kind on the system, nor is it possible.

Version 2000. Anyway,when i turn my computer on from the power, the Windows logo appears with the bar going across loading as normal. Then suddenly it will either stop in the middle of the bar loading and will hang there and not Load up! OR the bar will just keep running across under the logo and nothing will load.It does this all the time, if you get a lucky day it will load up. but it takes HOURS!! does anybody know what the problem is or how it can be resolved?

View 3 Replies View RelatedA Dell Dimension 8200, I can start the computer just fine in safe mode, but when I try to log in normally it lets me type in my password and then either just hangs after that saying loading personal settings or it'll get to my desktop background, but no programs will appear and it will just hang there. I've deleted any old programs I could find in safe mode and the only thing I've recently installed is a Java update. I also used system restore to go back before the Java update and I'm having the same problem.

Whenever I click on control panel from Start it hangs around for about 30-60 secs before saying 'Dr Watson Postmortum Debugger has encountered a serious error and needs to close'. Two files occasionally start running which tie up large amounts of CPU capacity. Checking thro Task Manager these appear to be
MSMSG.EXE which i assume is microsoft messages of some form but no message is actally on screen the other is VSMON.exe which is part of the Zone lab firewall, they only activate sporadically and when I am on the Net but they show cpu usage at 80%+ so everything freezes. When they are not active the cpu runs at around 15%.
computer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.

(I'm sure there is, stopped looking after 45 minutes) It doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. I AM running quite a bit on here as far as spyware, virus scans, webshots, etc. It's also a media center 2004 computer with all the trim so there are quite a few windows processes on there. Even with AOL running, my computer is only using 430MB of RAM and I have 1GB.

I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner
