I just upgraded my laptop from Win2k to Windows XP last night. Everything is running smoothly, however, all my old programs still linger in the program folder, but they aren't installed or recognized by XP. I want to get rid of some of them, but I don't have an uninstall option and I'm not sure if it's okay to go ahead and just delete these old program folders. I also suspect that some remains of Windows 2000 may be lingering about, and I really need to free up some disc space.
I have been using Add/Remove icon in Control Panel to remove programs. Although the Win2k Pro is running fine ,the icon of Add/Remove Program is not opening the next window to remove the programs.
I downloaded a program from Ebay and after installing it I noticed it didn't have a uninstall. I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.
I tried to use "Compressed (Zipped) Folders" in Windows. It didn't work. Then I tried right clicking on a folder/file, selecting "Properties", pushing the "Advanced" button,I then checked "Compress contents to save disk space",and the folder and its contents turned blue but the size of the files, seeming, hadn't changed. Have the files actually been compressed? Should I get an external ZIP program? If so can you recommend a program?
It is frustrating having every program automatically install to program files, including minor things like audio attachment. I know I'll end up with tons and tons of folders in program files. Beyond that, I can't access program files from the other computers on the network. Is there a good way to reorganize/move files to my C drive in a way that would be efficient and wouldn't require reinstalling every single program in a different place?
Um.. I think this could go here. Well i just partitioned my hard drive and i seperated it by music, programs, etc. What im trying to do is get all my programs to use the seperate partition (E) instead of C:. I just wanted to know how to do this.
I have a Canon CanoCraft CS-P Series Scanning program and when I logg on as guest, I get an error saying, " Canon CanoCraft CS-P Series has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. " On all other accounts, the program works normally. It only doesn't work on the Guest account.

I have a dos based application, previously running well in windows 98, but because of bought a new pc system, i wish to use the application in my new pc, running XP. But unluckily, it shows "Not Authorized program!" everytime i try to run the .pif file, or even directly running the .exe file.
I have Windows XP. Recently got F-Secure anti virus, snags the trojan stuff but sometimes says "can't be accessed" when I delete it. Recently Window defender has been going off constantly, it has to restart the computer *** of the time. Ealier when it did this all sorts of things started flasing ending with an error report to/from Microsoft. I followed their directions to remove a program. NOW HERES THE PROBLEM; to uninstall "The Best Offers" program the "Bad Guys" want me to download something, save it and disenable security. Should I follow the uninstall directions or is there a better way
When I try to execute the 'exe' program, I get the message shown in the subject line, plus 'can't find the 'exe' program or one of it's components', etc, etc.I have been working on this for the past three days with no success.Now. just this morning, I installed this program on my desktop computer, with the identical OS and HD configuration (EXCEPT XP-2) and the exe program works fine.
I am having problems downloading any programs. Including my auto updates. I contacted my Internet service and they believe that this is a spy-ware problem. They ran me through different things to try and I still cannot download. Every time I try I get a pop up that states Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close. I was able to set up temp web page through my Internet service, but am unable to complete the process due top the fact that I cannot download.
I go into my Control Panel and I click Add or Remove Program and I get this Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. With this extra info: AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00750063
I have already gone under MSConfig and unchecked the rundll32.exe from start up.
I am trying to run a .exe file, but when i try to run it CMD pops up and then dissapears. Other than that, nothing happens. So, i tried using CMD to open the program, but then it says "Program too big to fit in memory". How can i fix this? I doubt that it's a RAM problem, the program is only 364 MB...
My laptop has just starting showing the above message whenever I shut down or restart. It then gives me the option to "End Now" or let it end itself. What is this error for as i've noticed that the laptop is also running slower not sure if this is connected to this or not.
Often when I start my computer my CPU usage reaches 100% even though no programs are running. When I go to reboot it, an "End Program - Zoom In" window pops up and I have to click on OK to end the program for the computer to shut down. It seems obvious to me that this "Zoom In" program is using all my resources but I don't know how to keep it from starting - and it doesn't always start. My computer is an Acer TravelMate 2300 with an Intel Celeron 1500 Mhz processor and 1.23 Ghz of RAM, Windows XP Home Edition SP2. I have AVG anti virus and run AVG Spyware, Ad-Aware, and SpyBot regularly.
So I'm trying to run doom on my laptop with win xp through dosbox, and when i command dosbox to run my launcher for it, it says "this program must be run under Win32". what does this mean, and how do I fix it so I can run my game?
I select "Run" from Start menu, enter "ipconfig" (or whatever) and black dialogue window flutters open, but closes immediately. Consequently, I am unable to run any commands in DOS. Oddly, when entering "Msconfig" the System Configuration Utility Box opens?
I need to run my application as administrator for any limited user account that logs on. I thought I could do it in registry(HKLM) but it says it still doesnt have permissions to run. Has anyone else got any ideas? such a hassle to sit down and type my password in for each user to run this program.
I've been told by a Toshiba rep that the Satellite laptop that a friend owns with XP Home cannot run a DOS program. Her company, believe it or not, still runs a DOS app
