My Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook w/ 512 MB Ram running XP sometimes takes up to 15 minutes to begin booting up. For 15 minutes there will be a blinking cursor in the top corner before I see the typical "Dell" then "Microsoft" bootup signs. I ran Adaware and Spybot and Antivirus and this seemed to solve the problem temporarily. Now the problem comes and goes. The computer still has Mcafee that was pre-installed, but with no paid subscription. And Mcafee still sends the "update" popups, even after I though I've disabled them. Could the Mcafee be causing the problems?

I just bought a rebuilt computer and already I have had the computer lock up and prevent my keyboard or mouse from operating at some point in the session. I am just about ready to take this to another computer repair shop and tell them to go through the system with a fine tooth comb and fix all the remnant problems. To make matters worse I cannot get the computer to boot if there is anything connected to the USB ports. Here is a look at my computer's profile from running Belarc Advisor.

Over the past two years, I've built six computers for friends and co-workers, including some real screamin' gamers (P4, 3GHz, 2GB RAM, 256 MB video card, all running WinXP Pro). They all work fine, but all also seem to share one common annoyance. After being left on for some length of time (10-15 hours), they all seem to lock up. They don't completely freeze up - the mouse will work, but clicking on any icon gives the error message that "insufficient system resources exist for the requested operation ..". This happens even when the computers are unused for that time (i.e., overnight). I thought it was pretty obvious that something is eating up memory, so I installed AnalogX MaxMem to monitor the memory. It didn't help. Over time, the computer's available memory seemed to stay steadily around 70-75%, but even with MaxMem showing that much available memory, the computer still gave the "insufficient resource" message after being left on overnight.

It's a Gateway computer. It is the 200X series running XP Pro and fully updated. I am looking for advice for taking all my data, music, email off the hard drive and leaving the computer with the operating system, office, norton and maybe a couple of other basic programs. I do not need to transfer all my data to a new machine. Do I need to go all the way to a reformatting of the drive to clean out my data files?

I am getting ready to buy my first laptop computer and don't have a clue as to what I should be looking for....my home computer is a Dell, and I am somewhat happy with it, but I have noticed that the Dell's laptops are quite expensive...more so than the other brands....I am looking for something not higher than $1,600...I have ruled out Gateway, as I have heard too many horror stories...especially with their customer service.

The problem I got is that suddenly my trusty notebook started taking 10 minutes to start up while it usually took it 30-50 seconds, I really hope this is not a hardware/RAM issue as I don't have the money right now to buy required parts to fix it and my job depends on working in my computer. And in case it's useful here is a logfile of hijack this I just did.after the 10 minutes it takes it to start, it works as smoothly as it have always done,

I've got an HP Pavilion ze4400 on which the touchpad doesn't work. I can't be sure whether it's a faulty device or if drivers aren't installed. In Control Panel, under Mouse, Hardware, only one device (the USB mouse I'm using) shows up. I'm not sure what the standard touchpad driver for HP notebooks is. Going through the Add Hardware Wizard and telling XP that the device is already installed, it then gives me a list of installed hardware to select from. I don't know what that driver is, if it's even in there. what the driver is this

I tried to run safe mode

I am sending this report to Gateway but I do not have much faith in their support. I have the following problems with my Gateway 4540 GZ notebook (Centrino 1.5Ghz, 512 Ram, 80 HD). I REALLY need help here, as of right now, the PC is almost useless System freezes/hangs after seemingly random intervals. During a freeze, the mouse cursor will not move, and system does not respond in any way. Even hitting CAPS LOCK does not light up its corresponding LED light. Entire computer remains frozen until a power cycle. Reboot does not always succeed on first attempt, and a second or third power cycle is no longer uncommon to get back into Windows

When i go to burn a dvd now or even a cd it tells me to attach an external drive, or the area where you choose which location to burn to is greyed out. I can't seem to look up the model number on the Toshiba website, the number on my receipt is A70wb200e, while the number i brought up using the system itself is mfwt020acp08.

I have a Dell 600m (two year old) and now that I am doing lots of video capture, I have less than two gigs left on its puny 30 gig drive. I want an excellent rugged performing hard drive that will work great with this for demanding video purpose. I use the most memory intensive settings because I am a videophile. I want to spend under $500 bucks. I still owe $900 on this at my 29.99% interest rate and don't wanted to ditch this otherwise acceptable notebook.

I have been using Vista Ultimate 64 bit on my HDX 9001 tx notebook since over an year, and recently got fed up and downgraded it to XP.Strangely, the screen has become very dull. I remember XP had POWER SETTINGS, and the screen used to be dull if I used VISTA on "Save power" mode. But I am not sure why XP is running on this mode. I have checked all around, including POWER SETTINGS (which are different in XP and vista) but cannot find a solution.Yes I have downloaded and installed the graphic card drivers.

I purchased a new Fujitsu Siemens XI1526 17" note book , It came with German Windows XP Home addition..Not being German I want to use my other English Win XP install disc, the notebook came with a Win XP recovery disc, it has SP2 and SATA / RAID support incoperated unlike my Win XP disc. then I format my drives and then Windows starts the install but before it does I get a message " VIA Raid Combo Driver Diskette" need to be inserted to A: Well Im using a USB floppy so again I asked Simens and they told me that my USB floppy is probably not being support "Bah" in other words "Get a diffrent make such as NEC"
But I dont want to give up their so I've spent 2 days trying to make a bootable CD with SATA / Raid incoperated using This TUT but I keep getting errors in the TXTSETUP.SIF file..My easiest solution would be to get a Siemens Fujitsu Win XP recovery disc in English "Any one have one let me know"But apart from the above info is their any other way of getting this to work apart from Disc in English from Siemens "or Similar" or a diffrent floppy drive.

Alright. Please, somebody help me. This is just plain annoying. I have a Compaq Notebook Presario 2402 US that I got recently. It came preinstalled with XP Home. I wanted to format and instead install XP Pro from a CD that I have already. Surprise, surprise. The dang laptop won't boot from the XP Pro cd but boots up fine with the recovery XP Home cd that it comes with.I read somewhere that Compaq and HP block the computer from reading other OS's. Don't know why.The question is, how do I unlock it? I don't want to install XP Home and then upgrade to XP Pro.

This question is for my grandson - he has a Toshiba notebook XP and everytime he logs on to his account it freezes when loading icons etc. the guest account works reasonably well. This started when his cousin downloaded the new windows msn 8 and that's when the freezing happened, tried to delete the new program from the add and remove but it says it cannot do this (no idea why) We have tried to disable his own account but it wont accept his administrators password. which makes it impossible to change anything as it tells us we need the permission of the administrator.

I just bought toshiba M70 1.7 512 40 GB with XP SP2 Home. It is just after few days that OS is not working well. Main problemis taht many times when I shut down after using some applications or internet, it does not respond. System hangs and it takes sometimes 5 to 10 minutes to shutdown after repeated commands for that. Many programmes are shows as NOT RESPONDING and some times even ccApp is shown not responding. Even once I had to remove battery to make it shut down by cutting off power supply. The main problem is on shutdown although system does hang up some times during use. I put following software in it.
MS antispyware, Spybot, bazooka, Clipboard Recorder, Free online meter, DU Traffic. MSN and Yahoo messenger, Google Talk, EUALyzer, 7-Zip, WinRAR trial, Opera, Spyware blaster, Google desktop sarch,Firefox with many extensions( flat style, popup master, popup sound, yes popup, tabbed browsing prefrences, colored tabs, no script, down them all, flashgot, dictionary tool tip, answers, google toolbar, yahoo toolbar, google preview, google safe browsing, netcraft toolbar, site advisor, IE tab, IE view, Tab mix plus, Text size toolbar, Google preview,A Timetracker, page zoom, and some themes) IE has sitehound toolbar, google and yahoo toolbar, site advisor, and clodmark toolbar. Don,t think this lot of stuff is the cause as i put almost same stuff on my friends desktop that ic celeron and it,s fine, no such problem. Also i downloaded some Icons from internet and used them to change Icons of some folders and desktop shortcut items via Properties Tab...............
