Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook Takes Many Time To Boot Up
Apr 24, 2007
My Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook w/ 512 MB Ram running XP sometimes takes up to 15 minutes to begin booting up. For 15 minutes there will be a blinking cursor in the top corner before I see the typical "Dell" then "Microsoft" bootup signs. I ran Adaware and Spybot and Antivirus and this seemed to solve the problem temporarily. Now the problem comes and goes. The computer still has Mcafee that was pre-installed, but with no paid subscription. And Mcafee still sends the "update" popups, even after I though I've disabled them. Could the Mcafee be causing the problems?
I have the a problem with my Dell Inspiron 6000. I wanted to change my 60 GB HD with a 320 GB Western Digital HD. I knew about the maximum 137 GB that the BIOS could recognoze, but when I booted from the XP CD it looked like it could recognize the entire 320 GB HD, so I thought OK and tried to make only one partition of 320 GB. After doing this when I start my laptop I only get the blinking cursor in the upper left corner. So I pretty much knew that it was because I partioned my drive to large.
And this is where my REAL problem begins. I am trying to boot from the XP CD to make more partitions under the 137 GB limit. However my computer won't boot from the CD and let me delete the 320 GB partition. I jut get a black screen?! My computer just refuses to boot from the CD and it's also unable to boot from the hard drive (which never worked after the installation).
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with wonderful touchpad, which I do not want to work because I have a wireless mouse. I cannot seem to find a way to turn the thing off.
I recently bought a new battery, thinking my old one which was a refurbished battery just packed up as it was on the way out. When i put new battery in the power meter reads 52%. The battery is not charging however! When the power plug is pulled out the battery light does not come on! The battery is a brand new 9cell, so im sure it is not the battery. I suspect this is why refurbished battery died, or has it? Any thoughts suggestions would be appreciated as im not so savvy at the tech stuff. The computer has been running abit slower recently after upgrading memory 3 months ago to 2gb, so wondering if its caught something! I have avast protection.
I need to replace my internal hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. I do not want to copy anything from it. I bought the new hard drive, but I am not sure how or what order to install everything. I have the 'Reinstallation CD MS Win XP Home' from Dell, SP2 & SP3, and the Drivers & Utilities cd 'for reinstalling dell inspiron system software'. Since these are all 'reinstallation' cds, can I use these? Is there a website or other link that you can point me to that may have step by step instructions/pictures of this entire process? I am not doing an actual reinstall, but that's what the cds say. I am installing a NEW hard drive. I'm pretty sure I can get the actual HD in the laptop. It's just a matter of what to do next to get Windows XP on it.
i have a dell 6000, when i turn it on the xp starting sequence begins nad suddenly it shuts off with a message of fatal error and a lot of zeroes followed by a 5, what could be the problem
I had been chatting with the sales rep. in Dell but this is what they want me to purchase [Western Digital 500GB SATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive 8MB 5400RPM 2.5IN Scorpio Blue ] is everyone could help me find a internal hard drive with capacity of "160-500gb" that is compatible with my Inspiron 6000 notebook? and does my notebook support SATA?
Last week i turned my computer on and windows xp took so much longer to boot up. when the windows xp loading screen (with the blue progress bar) appears, its there for a few minutes, it used to be a few seconds. I scanned for viruses with Norton, scanned for spyware etc with Ad-Aware and Microsoft's Anti spyware, everything is all clean. All programs are up to date in definitions too. I cleaned my registry(registry mechanic), defragged my drives, done disc cleans, i have 2 programs in my start-up (norton and mcafee firewall) and still no joy. I have also used winxp manager and tried optimizing and xp still takes a long time to load.
Alright, so I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop that runs Windows XP. It's a rather old computer, a few years old, but when I got it the specs were on the high end. Not top notch, par se, but certainly good. Now, however, I have a problem with it: It is agonizingly slow (I should, perhaps, also point out that it wasn't nearly this slow when I first got it...).
My Inspiron 6000 laptop, with Windows XP Pro, has an interesting problem: When I now unplug the AC adaptor from the back of the laptop, the little icon of the plug in the bottom right corner of the taskbar does not switch to a picture of the battery. When I highlight over it, it still says "On AC Power" as though it were still plugged in. Even weirder, when i click the icon (or go thru control panel), and get to "Power Meter", it says the battery is not present, and that the current power source is AC power. But the battery is definitly present, as i am able to use the laptop under these conditions, and seriously, I dont mean i took the plug out of the wall only. The plug is not connected to the laptop and the above still happens. The only thing that recognizes the difference when the laptop is not plugged in is the little orange LED light just under the right side of the monitor. When it is plugged in, the light turns green.
I have a Dell computer less than 2 years old a Dimension 4600 Pentium 4 3.2 ghz 120 hard drive before my computer use to boot up really fast but now it takes pretty long also I'm trying to remove all the junk I'm not using any more but I'm scared that if I remove something something else may mess up because sometime I see names that I don't remember my self downloading them

A week ago my pc simply stopped responding while running, and before that moment, there was no indication that anything was wrong. CAD did not respond so the pc was turned off manually and rebooted. It would not load at all. After a few attempts I was finally able to get it to come up in safe mode and attempted a chkdsk which found some errors, then ran chkdsk /f and /r and was finally able to boot up the computer, but the process takes literally 15 minutes.
I've been trying the different troubleshooting suggestions I found at: "10 Things You Can Do When Windows XP Won't Boot Up". I tried bootcfg /rebuild but was scared off of that when prompted to answer some questions after the initial command. I also tried fixmbr DeviceHardDisk0 but came to a point that I received a message saying that "an invalid or nonstandard partition table signature was detected. If you are not having problems accessing your drives, you should not continue. Writing a new master boot record to your system partition could damage your partition tables and cause your partitions to become inaccessible" which also scared me off so I didn't continue.........
Recently my Windows XP HP laptop started taking exceptionally long to load the desktop Icons on bootup. Wondering if something in my registry got messed up recently. Looking for advise on how to troubleshoot this issue so I can fix the long delay in loading the desktop icons.
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
I recently learned that I can not use the upgrade copy of XP Pro that I own and used to upgrade from XP Home on my Dell Notebook computer.Dell is sending me a full version of XP Pro so I can format and load it.I registered the Upgrade version of XP Pro with Microsoft. How do I unregister the copy so I can give it to my Brother since I not longer need it and he currently has XP Home and an HP notebook?
I've just purchased an Inspiron 700M from Dell. They did not include a CD for the operating system. How do I go about obtaining a CD for my WinXP pro SP2.
I had to purchase a new hardrive for a Dell Inspiron 5100. I am just wondering how to go about the Windows reinstallation on a Dell. Do I just plug in the reinstall cd like usual and go from there? I know this might be a Duh question, but it's a Dell.
My kid is home from LSU with a laptop with no sound. She can't hear her music or UTube, but video works great. I know it's a crummy laptop, but we're trying to band aid it until she graduates and buys herself a better one.Dell Inspiron 700 Windows XP--there is no sound and no error messages. Of course the mute button is off. We went to the Dell website and downloaded the audio driver, but still nothing. We'll try anything short of buying a new laptop or motherboard.
this problem started out of the blue one day i turn on my laptop and everything is fine ... but once it gets to the "boot screen" (the one that has the windows logo and the loading bar) the thing turns slow and it stays on that screen for at least 5 minutes, after that, the whole windows startup takes another 5 minutes... to finally end up with a slow working computer. it's slow but it still works alright but once i try to open wmp or itunes to listen to music or even watch videos from Internet, the whole cpu usage goes to 100% and the song starts skipping and "lagging" and the computer works slower than usual.
Whenever we try to run an actual program, the comp keeps locking up and we have to reboot manually. Thanks in advance!

I am having major issues with starting up my laptop. It is a Dell Inspiron 6000running Windows XP and just recently had an automatic windows update (other than that, nothing has been downloaded recently). When I try starting up the computer, it gives me a blue screen of death when the windows logon page is supposed to load. The BSOD gives me the error code STOP: C000021a, and that a "fatal error has occured". It also gives this code: 0xC000012
I recently uninstalled a bunch of unused programs from my Win XP and I may have uninstalled some thing. Now the DVD does not play anymore and I get the error message "The file does not have a program assocaited with it to perform this action." each time I try to play a DVD.I have gone to the "Device Manager" to check for the DVD driver. It is still there and working fine. I even unistalled the driver and rebooted my computer. This did not help.
I was surfing around and then all of a sudden my wallpaper is a warning box saying that there is spyware detected and I need to install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean up my computer. When I right click the desktop it just has "themes, appearance, and settings" no "desktop" or "screensaver" By the way it's on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop.
My notebook Dell Inspiron 7500, Windows XP Profesional. I'm unable to start the windows XP profesional. I can still reach the advanced setup sceme for safe modes etc, by pressing F2 or F8. Also unable to startup the system in safemodes nor all other possible ways through the F8 menu. System gives an possible unexpected power failure, when I startup the system apears the traditional windows XP screen but before the welcome screen appears, appears a blue screen saying something about virtual memory dump. This screen disapears so quickly that I'm unable to read the complete message. I have no XP software or what so ever, notebook was in my possesion never connected to the net.
where can i download dell inspiron b120 laptop device drivers? the devices not working are: audio, ehternet controller, modem device, video controller and vga compatible.
My sister had a nasty infection, including vundo and many others, some of which I could remove, many of which I couldn't using Spybot, Ad-aware, Trend Micro, Vundofix, etc. Because she only has pictures on her computer anyways, I've decided to reformat, and moved all her files to my computer. I've changed the Bios screen to boot from the cd, and popped it in, and I keep getting the message: No Bootable Device -- strike f1 to reboot, f2 for setup utility. I'm stuck and haven't been able to find any similar situation on the internet. The rescue disks are a set of 3 disks that came with my computer from Future Shop, burned with "dv6113" written on them.
