Dell Inspiron 8100 Locks Up When Run Program
Feb 8, 2006Whenever we try to run an actual program, the comp keeps locking up and we have to reboot manually. Thanks in advance!

Dell 8100 - Pro Won't Boot
Jan 20, 2006PS fan runs, CD drive lights, opens, closes. On opening case, standby light on MB is on, stays on when computer turned off with power button. Stays on when plug pulled short time, less than a minute, goes off. When plugged in, fan starts, standby light lights, even before power button is pressed. Removed CMOS battery, waited five minutes, SB light still on. (Dell online says don't change PCI card while light is on.) The computer is my college G-daughter's; I'd like to get it fixed and back to her ASAP.

It appears the motherboard is shot and so I am just going to use this new hard drive for storagew and I just want to remove XP off of it. Is it best to FDISK and if so how do I do that on XP? Is it the same as on the other operating systems or is there a better way?

Feb 5, 2007I've been trying to bring my husband's older Dell 8100 P4 desktop back to life. It was an old ME system initially. I've done the following:Replaced the motherboard and ide cables New CMOS battery Flashed BIOS Replaced and upgraded the memory Reformatted the harddrive (using another system) and loaded Win XP Pro I've used this same harddrive (with XP Pro) sucessfully on another Dell so I know there is nothing wrong with the boot files. But when I install it in the broke Dell...no joy.
It hangs in the "Windows can not start normally" pick Safe Mode, Last Known Good Config...etc loop. None of the options work and it flashes a quick BSOD dump error (too fast for me to see) and then back through the loop.The BIOS recognizes all the drives, the memory, processor, etc.I also tried to boot with alot of the extra hardware removed (removed NIC, sound card, modem, un-hooked optical drives, etc) --- still same no-boot loop.
How To Product Activation
Sep 5, 2005I've just been round to help my neighbour with her laptop... she's 80 (Bless!) Anyway, when booting up a message appears to say that before windows can log on the product (XP Home) needs to be activated. No problem, so I press OK. But then, in the Product Activation window it says, This product has already been activated, press OK. Which I do but then it shuts down. It's just a continual circle that I can't seem to get out of. By the way, it boots up okay in safe Mode.

Mar 24, 2008i have a 2 year old pc that i bought with windows xp media center edition 2005 pre-installed and activated. only a week ago, it started asking me to activate windows before i could log in every time i restarted my computer. i would click ok and then it would ask me to activate. i would activate over internet and when it did, it say i have an incorrect product key. i don't know why this happens because the computer was pre-activated and i didn't do anything to my computer when it started happening except played some games. something even more wierd is that 1 in 5 times it boots up perfectly normal without asking me to activate. it is really annoying to have to try restarting my pc until it randomly lets me log in.

May 5, 2006I'm running a Gateway 700GR with Windows XP service pack 2 and i'm having a pretty bad problem.last night when I turned on the computer and tried to log in, I get this error.Title bar says "Windows Product Activation Error" with the text "A problem is preventing Windows from accuratley checking the liscence for this computer" and the error code is 080090019.Any ideas on what to do? I restarted the computer in safe mode and ran Registry Cleaner (I tried to use System Restore but I just get a blank window) and fixed some stuff with that, but the problem persists.

Aug 10, 2009I recently bought a new battery, thinking my old one which was a refurbished battery just packed up as it was on the way out. When i put new battery in the power meter reads 52%. The battery is not charging however! When the power plug is pulled out the battery light does not come on! The battery is a brand new 9cell, so im sure it is not the battery. Sep 15, 2006When I turn my computer on it shows me the normal Windows XP loading icon and then that goes away and I can watch the CPU light go haywire right as the blue screen (of death) says that there has been a fatal error (0x0000135) and the system has shut down. I have no clue what to do... the only way to bypass this (if you want to call it that) is to hit F2 and go to setup mode. I don't know what to do there. I've had problems before where the computer will only go to one or another BSOD and I've had to completely clear the hard drive and reload everything on it aka start from scratch. Usually my dad does this but first I would like to see if there is any other way to fix it.

Oct 11, 2005i have a dell inspiron 7500 with windows 200 installed on it. i just tried to play a music cd and wmp said it "cannot play the file b/c there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly". i ran diagnostics and it came back with no errors on the Audio port. i was able to hear all of the sound test w/o any issues. I have updated the drivers for windows 2000 on my laptop also. I checked for question marks or exclamation mark in Device Manager! Did not have any there? I also uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. when i go to properties for the sound drivers everything is grayed out!
