I've recently moved home and after contracting an internet service I'm unable to connect to the network. We have two laptops here:
- One is Windows Vista which is able to connect without a glitch;
- The other (my laptop) is a Window XP with SP3 which is unable to connect.
- The wireless modem is a THOMSON TCW710.
- My laptop is set for obtaining the IP address automatically.
- When I start windows, I get an IP address, the DHCP server and the DNS servers.
- This is the output of the ipconfig /all command
I have installed XP on my sisters Laptop which is a Gateway Model: ML6228 because she did not like Vista on there. Now I was looking on the Gateway site for Network Drivers for this model and the only one they had was for Vista only, Network Downloads

In an XP-Home, one user system, what shoul be the defautl values found in the following registry entry: HKU.DEFAULTSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerShell Folders ??To make a long story short, there are entries pointing to a non existing user's folder (eg: C:Documents and SettingsTEMP....) and I want to get rid of this TEMP user and folder. This is the only section of the registry where this folder is referenced.
It worked but he didn't have any of the disks that came with it. It is a Gateway and looks like it has hardly been used. When we turned it on it tried to boot at Windows XP Professional setup and asks for the CD that XP Pro comes on. Which of course we don't have. On closer inspection we realized that the computer originally had Windows ME installed on it and someone must have started to install XP Pro on it and either got an error or they stopped before setup could finish. Needless to say I can't get what little I know to work to fix it. I can't get a prompt and it won't even boot in safe mode. I have Windows Xp Home Edition on the computer that I am currently using and hoped that maybe the missing files may have been something they had in common. They start out with I386, like I386OEMBIOS.CAT.
I have a Gateway computer that’s about 4 years old running Windows 98. It includes a Gateway VGA monitor (model EV700). I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows using their resource CD’s. Everything is fine now except the monitor will only display the lowest resolution settings. I have tried to change the resolution through the display icon in control panel, but it will not allow me to increase the resolution. I have even gone to the Gateway web site and download the latest driver for this monitor, but still have the same results.
As a result, the monitor will no longer display graphics of any kind while on the internet or while working with photo imaging software.
My boot.ini files on my 2 intentional operating systems have been modified to look, it seems to me, identical (see 1st attached thumbnail). First 2 for the intended ini, the second the old improper, though still currently functional, boot.ini.old. Both of these are on separate partions on the first internal hard drive, and I have tried turning off my 1 external during boot-up as well as disabling my 2nd internal on the "boot settings", with the same results. The default should be the "Graphics" system, according to the Boot.ini
A friend of mine had me take a look at her gateway solo 1450 because she said that when it booted she would get a message stating the OS was not found. I looked at it, and it has booted every time but once (30 different boots). The one time it didn't the BIOS did not recognize the hard drive as being present. Its a tough problem because its very hard to duplicate the error.
Not to sure if I poseted in the right place or not. I'm currently working on a friends laptop and was hoping I could get some help here. She has a Gateway laptop running Windows XP. It is running very slowly. If you restart of shutdown there are always certain files that always pop up as not responding. These are the same files that show up in Task manager as not responding. Her Microsoft Antispyware icon when double clicked never starts the application. Here is a list of the files that always show up as not responding.
Out of 120gb, there is a 7gb restore partition, and only 2.1g is used. I have partition magic, can i reduce that partition to like 3gb so i have extra space? and.I also got a restore CD... what the? I am not sure why I need a partition in my HDD and a restore CD. Restore CD cant be the same as the restore hdd partition since it is way too small.
I have searched through this site and haven't found a situation that specifically addresses the issue that I am having. I am working on an older Gateway laptop that has all of the original installation discs that includes WinXP Pro. I am attempting to reinstall WinXP Pro onto this system to no avail. It continually stops w/ 2 minutes left during "Finalizing Installation" "Saving Settings".
I hope i"m doing this right. Gateway laptop MX6436. Suggested Max RAM 2Gig. I replaced the stock 512 module with 2ea. 1 Gig Modules, Nothing! I reinstalled original 512mb, normal operation. Removed 512 & installed 1ea. 1 Gig module, normal operation. Then added the added the 512 module, normal operation. BIOS confirms 1 and a half Gig's RAM. Why won't the 2 Gig's work?
Gateway desktop which I used for like 2 weeks with no problems. Now I can not even boot up. I've tried to boot up in safe mode & all the other options with no luck. I do not have the XP disks from him either. I am also not able to get to a command prompt.
I can do a Remote Desktop to my Gateway Dialup computer. (even though its got a variable IP Address). Thats FINE. It is basically doing Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) BUT, I want to do a Remote Desktop to the Dynamically assigned WinXP Computer BEHIND the gateway. Is there some special Syntax for using RDP? Does the gateway need to have a special domain?
Need video driver for Gateway W340UIFor some reason Gateway decided that this computer should have Vista even though it does not have enough memory to run it. Gateway will not provide the drivers for XP on their website. I have found enough to get the internet and sound working, but when I run the add hardware wizard there is a yellow question mark next to "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" I have done a fair amount of researching and reading other's posts looking for drivers for this Gateway model, but I am finally posting this one myself hoping for some specific answers and will be sure to post all the links to all drivers I find.
Here's the problem new computer with windows XP from Gateway can not translate ip addresses from numbers to dot com addresses. In other words, IE cannot pull up any internet service though ping is receiving with 0% lost.Norton package with Spy Sweeper and Window Washer has been installed and run with no change.
I am using a pretty old gateway and i know that could cause some slow performance but it has been getting very sluggish lately and i do not know if i have a virus or what the problem could be here.I have used this site before a while ago for another computer but i do not know much about these things.

I am trying to set up a Gateway 2071-A two wire modem on XP Pro x64 bit, the modem only comes with 32 bit drivers, is there any workaround for this problem ? as I can't find any 64 bit drivers. Would WOW on64 work
I have a Gateway laptop that won't boot up properly. Sometimes it will go to the Windows screen that has the bar at the bottom like it is loading and then it will just restart. But here lately it has been just going to the screen that asks if you want to start in safe mode and all the other choices. But it just locks up and won't go from there. I think that my hard drive is messed up. I just ordered a new hdd. Can I just change the hdd to fix it or is it something else?
I have a Gateway 7210XG Laptop which has worked perfectly since I bought it in January of this year. Until I allowed Norton anti-virus to install new virus definitions and application s/w yesterday morning. That install requested a reboot. I continued what I was doing instead of rebooting right away. When I was done I clicked on OK and the machine shut down. I can't be sure but I think I saw from the corner of my eye a message flash on the screen and it hung up.
Rescue disk for Gateway laptop, A friend has a laptop thats about 18 months old and had a HD crash. He can't find his rescue disk. Anyone know what the Gateway policy is on getting a CD?
I bought a new 80 Gig HD for my laptop along with 2 of the adapters to connect the HDs to an EIDE cable in a desktop so I could Clone the Laptop HD to the new larger one. It goes through the motions and says completed successufully. But when I install the new HD in the laptop, I get an error "disk read error".Is it possible the new hard drive is bad even though the copy was done or am I doing something wrong? I have backed up my desktop HD many times using Ghost with no problems but this Laptop will not go.
I bought a gateway mt6711 notebook bundled with win vista on it. i had to reformat it and install windows xp pro because vista is just buggy right now with the programs i'm using,I have succeeded installing the win xp pro, but i'm now in the process of looking for necessary drivers for my pc, and it's not that easy. i need help locating them. here are the ff hardware without any drivers installed according to the device manager.
Trying to fix this for a freind. Computer will not boot from hard drive. Needing to keep the data on the hard drive. Any other (easier) method than buying an adapter and installing the hard drive into another system to back up.
Tell me where to find and download an ethernet driver for a Gateway 2002 model 300L desktop? Or walk me through checking out whether this option has been turned off or never enabled. I had used a USB cable for Comcast HSI, and now have a wireless router wired in for my new laptop.
I have what I perceive to be a big problem with my pc. I somehow deleted the necessary files to boot the computer. I have tried to boot in safe mode, but when I get to the screen to boot in safe mode and hit enter to boot it goes back to the gateway screen.
