Malicious Script Detected And Graphics Problem XP - Helpctr.exe

It all started when last night the graphics on my computer went haywire and Also I cannot acess the help and support center I get a message that there is a Malicious Script Error: Windows Script Host Shell Object Reg Write helpctr.exe It reconmends to stop script so I say ok and then I still cannot access the help center, so I do it again and the message continues to come up, we started up the computer the other night and my husband had a computer game in the disk drive and we had an error message come up ntldr is missing, we ended fixing that by taking out the game and rebooting and now we have those other 2 above problems not sure if they are related or not. I'm really hoping our graphics card isn't shot.

I tried to access my Help & Support Center link from the startup menu, and the following message comes up:
Windows cannot find 'helpctr.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

when I click on help and support in start menu I get this message: helpctr.exe - bad image the application or dll crogra~1comma~1office12msoxmlmf.dll is not a valid windows image? it pops up about 3 times, but still manages to load the help files in the enda bit of my history: I have updated to service pack 3 and then the problems started.I got infected with two trojan generic 7 yhe's which my AVG FREE picked up on and virus vaulted, after that my computer went to pot. I scanned many times with: AVG - SPYWARE DOCTOR - MICROSOFT MALICIOUS SOFTWARE DETECTOR - all of which thought everything was fine, until I installed spybot search and destroy which picked up on 8 malware problems and sorted them. I scanned with AVG again and that found 3 problems/viruses to do with microsoft office containing macros which were vaulted.

First off help and support message, when clicked on would not open because it could not find helpctr.exe file in binaries. I have fixed that and started svc service but now when I click on help and support the hour glass flickers but nothing opens. It is not a registry problem because app paths are correct and svc service is started...Why isnt the center coming up on screen?

I ran LiveUpdate on Norton Systemworks 2003. It updated LI only, and asked me to reboot. I did. I also, following some advice I found on TSG during a Google search, switched the Speed Disk service to "manual", as it was causing my HD to work overtime. As it was nearly 1am by then, I went off to bed. My system is protected by ZoneAlarm, Spybot resident, Norton Systemworks with auto updates. I do, however, have a broadband connection and leave the system on at night. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro. Monitor hadn't powersaved. Rightclick had stopped working, clicking on anything in my startbar had no effect, except "start", but that would only bring up the 4 items that would be above 'programs', and I couldn't click on them either. So, I rebooted, and everything worked fine. I was on the system for around 1/2 hour,I went downstairs for breakfast, and when I returned I found it in the same state.

There's an e-mail doing the rounds inviting recipients to download SP3 for XP and on the face of it, giving a web address of windows.com etc. On close examination, the second "w" in Windows is actuall two "v"s and anyone visiting this site is likely to get a nasty surprise. That's why I'm not posting any links and also why I'm forwarding thios posting to a Mod who may care to make it Sticky

computer is infected from a malicious program which always prompt to download a antimalware program. it happened when my friend tried to browse a porno site, nfortunately, my pc doesn't have antivirus or any internet protection... what should i do? when i open my internet explorer, it gives me a new defualt home page which informs me that my computer is infected and i have to buy their software to eliminate the problem. i believe my internet explorer is infected with a malware virus

Has anyone received a duplicate automatic update notification on Microsoft Malicious Software Tool I had KB890830 installed automatically on 02/14 and then KB890830 (the same number) again on 02/15. I really don't know how good this tool is anyway - now it makes me wonder if Microsoft has a problem with it

I reformatted a friend's computer and reinstalled XP from the disk. Rather than mess around with SP2 I went ahead and installed SP3 afterwards. When it was in the process of installing the IE (whatever one comes with it), the MSRT tool cropped up and found over 435 files that were "infected".

I am getting this Security Alter message saying that " Your computer is infected with last version of PSW.x-Vir trojan. I recently downloaded this program called Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. Hopefully this program will help me remove this trojan, but if anyone can let me know about what programs i could use to remove or if anyone could help me remove this trojan that would be greatful. I received an update message icon from microsoft. The updates included security for Windows 2000, which is my OS system, and Malicious Removal Tools. Before the installation of these updates, the wired Internet connection in my computer was OK. However, after I installed these updates, my wired Internet connection failed. I was trying to make a movie in Windows Movie Maker. I wanted to save it to a CD but I got an error message. "A recordable CD was not detected. Would you like to save your movie to the hard drive. Yes or No. I have Window XP Media Center Edition 2005. I let someone I know look at my computer he said I needed to replace the drive so I let him. Unfortunately I am still receiving the same message. I hope you can help or lead me in the right direction.

i noticed this when trying to install an app, Ever Note. it refused to install, claiming i was not using windows xp.. what? i've got xp SP2, but even in firefox's about tab i'm a w98 user! when i tried to install WMP11, i was sent to the w98's download page, which was quite frustrating (WMP9!)

I have a HT ready processor, Mobo, and chipset. Yet I do not have it running on my system. I have dealt with the mobo support, and they say I need a fresh install of windows. I can't do that because it is pre installed software. Bios does not give me the option, but even if it did it is supposed to be enabled by default. Is there anything in windows that anyone knows of that I may have turned off, or a way to enable or access it through windows. I have XP pro SP2.

I'm running Windows XP on a stand-alone pc. I have Norton Internet Security/Anti-Virus installed. I have encountered a pop up window (which will not go away) with the message "New Network Detected". It wants me to select home, office, etc.I don't have any windows firewall enabled, but have Norton taking care of it instead.The consensus I'm getting is get rid of Norton, it stinks. But I would think there could be something simpler/makes more sense to do.

I have a friend who is having a problem with his laptop.I don't know what kind of laptop he has but the problem is his laptop cannot detect any cd/dvd rom drives. It will not detect the internal cd/dvd rom or an external dvd rom (connected thru usb2.0). It does however recognise the harddrive. He is using Windows 2000 OS. For obvious reasons he cannot put in the Win2000 CD and reinstall drivers (if that is what the problem is). So, does anyone know what could be wrong? I can get more information on the laptop if this would help.

Had my PC in Oct its a tiny by the way, since new it has had a fault when turned off ,but power still on at the mains, the phone rings the PC boots up, also lately is has been shutting down saying problem has been detected, and recovered from an error, i have restored it back to when it was working fine but still the same, tried to get hold of tiny but get a guy who i cant understand on the other end of line.

Ive a disk of 80 GB storage.formatted and partitioned it into 3 partitions, one NTFS, where i installed XP, and the other two FAT32.no other OS installed. now the problem is , it wont boot properly. i mean it starts booting, and where the welcome screen is supposed to come, it goes black. anyway, i noted in partition magic's Check for errors, dat the third partition had a few bad blocks, and ran chkdsk to correct the errors. i thote dat wud solve the problem.but it didn't.so i formatted a second time the last partition only (to FAT32 again), and then it was listed in partition magic,but couldnt be accessed anywhere, in command prompt or windows explorer.
