View 9 Replies View RelatedI use to update my Xp SP-2 regularly from MS website. Now a days it is insisting to install "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)" first to proceed for downloading update files. Is it a FORCE or I can bypass this tool. I do not want to install it, as somebody told me this is a tool by MS to takeout personal information on my OS (XP) and MS Office and other MS Software.I know I use genuine legal copy. But why should I allow MS to take more information ? Is not WPA through internet is not sufficient ? Can this tool take information on other products/3rd party software like NERO,MS OFFICE and ArcSOft ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI ran LiveUpdate on Norton Systemworks 2003. It updated LI only, and asked me to reboot. I did. I also, following some advice I found on TSG during a Google search, switched the Speed Disk service to "manual", as it was causing my HD to work overtime. As it was nearly 1am by then, I went off to bed. My system is protected by ZoneAlarm, Spybot resident, Norton Systemworks with auto updates. I do, however, have a broadband connection and leave the system on at night. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro. Monitor hadn't powersaved. Rightclick had stopped working, clicking on anything in my startbar had no effect, except "start", but that would only bring up the 4 items that would be above 'programs', and I couldn't click on them either. So, I rebooted, and everything worked fine. I was on the system for around 1/2 hour,I went downstairs for breakfast, and when I returned I found it in the same state.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed IE Beta 7, and have used it for a bit, and it's okay,
but until it's solid I prefer IE6. Can I reinstall 6,
Back when I first installed x64 many months ago, I apparently installed the VIA USB 2.0 driver, before I knew that wasn't required on this OS. Looking for the cause of another problem, while looking through the Event Manager, I found a couple of system errors that turned out to be USB filters that the system was blocking. I didn't even remember installing the driver, and when I check in Add/Remove Programs, it's not listed. I decided to simply delete the filters and the USB driver folder. However, after rebooting, I wasn't able to use my mouse, so I couldn't restore the driver from the Recycle Bin. I ended up having to do a System Restore, which set things as they were. Still, I'm looking for a way to remove this that won't cause problems. The only thing that I can think of is to try a repair installation of the OS, but I'm unsure that would do this either. I'm guessing that the VIA driver fouled up the native USB on the system, and this is the root cause of some mouse problems that I have been trying to fix for a long time.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWe had pcguard as the defences provided by blueyonder, our broadband provide,r for about a year and it worked very well. They then announced a new version and when I downloaded it, the windows were too small for the screens behind them and the procedure was unusable. I asked blueyonder for help but ended up with a frozen pc. I managed to restart it myself and then, tried to uninstall the new pcguard but it won't go away. There is a possibility to instal a new version of the pcguard, but it will not install because the former version will not go. The computer has been behaving strangely since. e.g. :
1] Saying it has to configure HP1Z423 for some things like email or internet, which it did not do before.
2] Starting up in something which looks a bit like safe mode screen, but when enter is pressed, it starts up normally.
