In trying to open Powerpoint I have started receiving a MSVCR80.dll error stating that it cannot be found. Is this a hard fix. am not a computer newbie, but not what I would called advanced. I have some computer knowledge and have fixed some problems. But I have never had this kind of problem to deal with.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a dell dimension 3000 running windows xp sp3 that we use at our church to run a PowerPoint 2007 presentation for our songs to display on a projector. The problem is that more often than not the PowerPoint will crash and sometimes the entire system for no apparent reason. I have uninstalled word and reinstalled to no avail, it is still happening. I decided to start trouble shooting so I downloaded the memtest86 v2.11 and I am getting fails during test 2. Not sure if that means it is the ram or if it is a hardware conflict. Aside from a potential ram problem I am wondering about 3 other possibilities.
Could it be the way I have set up the video to run 2 monitors? I currently have purchased and installed a Zotac Nvidia GeForce 5200 video card which I plug the projector into and it acts as the primary monitor. The 2nd monitor a NEC AccuSync LCD5v monitor is plugged into the on-board video slot. Neither one of the settings for these video cards seem to recognize that I have two monitors plugged in, so not sure if that is the source of the crashes? If I should hook them up differently or what
Within the PowerPoint itself is over 300 hyper links (one for each song plus one to end the song and return to main PowerPoint) I run it in presenter mode. Also have a macro on one slide so it can function as a white board. Main PowerPoint has 6 slides.
I need to download powerpoint, not the full version, a disk from school that I need to look at. I asked before, got a small version trial, don't remember that opened it. View 12 Replies View RelatedThe pc is xp sp2... apon latest restart all icons on desktop and start menu all go to the same program a solitaire game. tried avg and even restore but something has blocked all but this one program. restore reads systam restore log missing but i can get to it, it seems to be blocked also. internet reachable through open with/choose other program and can check mail but thats about it. anyone know if theres a new bug out there doing this do i now have a 1200 dollar solitaire machine.

Norton WinDoctor returned a list of "Missing files" which it was unable to repair. One referred to MSMSGR.EXE, and ten others referred to various ".exe" files in "Microsoft.NETFrameworkv.2.0.50727". The common factor in all 11 instances is "cannot access a necessary file, 'msvcr80.dll'". Being a curious type I pulled the power and ribbon leads from the DVD and plugged them into the 4G HD, after setting the jumper to slave.Then switched on. A dos line appeared saying 'automatically configuring an F: drive' After which Windows appeared to boot up normally. Except that 'My Computer' showed no (D The 4G (F drive showed as not formated. Not only that but my D drive is missing lots of files and folders wont open. It seems that the partitioning has been forgotten! I have checked what bios settings there are (not many on Compaq 5000) And the bios sees my main Crive and only one 20G disk I have a bad feeling about this Is there any way to get things back to normal?
I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHi, I am having a weird problem. I cannot change what programs I use by defualt to open windows files. It does not matter whether I right click on a certain file and choose open with or if I use the tools option in the folder menu. This is what happens. I want to open a .jpg file with picassa photo viewer. I right click the .jpg file and choose open with. I then click browse to locate the .exe file that will open it. Well once I click it I get sent back to the open with window and nothing has changed. The .jpg file will not open with any program that can open it and it will not add the .exe file into the window. This is a bit frustrating as I cannot change what opens certain windows files by default. This goes for any type of file I try to open with any program.
