Each time I try to reboot my PC I receive the "End Program MCI Command Handling Window." When I click on "End Now", the window simply starts over again.I have to do this several times before the PC will shut down. Can anyone help me out on this? I have a Dell Dimension E520 desktop PC, 2.13 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 64 kb primary memory cache,2048 kb secondary memory cache, 2046 mb installed memory and 320.06 gb usable hard drive capacity.
After searching online I found your website and looks like very very helpful. So this is my first time asking you something.let's see how we get on. I am more than happy to contribute with donations if i get my problems resolved! Every time when I am going to shut down the computer I almost always get the dialog box message End Program - MCI command handling window.
I'm trying to find the command (to which I can create a shortcut) to minimize all windows (Windows Key + M) and restore all windows (Windows Key + Shift + M) in Windows XP.
I'm aware that there is a Show Desktop shortcut, but that's not what I'm after.
I am running tracert and other commands from the command line but the window keeps closing as soon as the task is completed. I want to capture some info to send to my ISP but don't get the chance. Running Win XP on a Compaq Presario - loads of disk space, memory and processor capacity. It worked fine until a couple of days ago but I haven't changed anything.
Is it possible to put run command-line window on my taskbar?? I know how to put shortcut on taskbar and also know that winkey+R opens it. but i want the exact run window in which i can directly type something (like the way address bar is integrated in taskbar). any help would be good. thanks in advance.
When I try to use the Run command module to run something like ipconfig, the little black window (go ahead and laugh... no idea what to call it) opens as expected, and i can catch a quick glimpse of the expected text. Then it vanishes before I can actually read anything. It can't be open for more than 1 second.
I must have screwed something up.some but not all of my folders open a command prompt window. I managed to change them to an explorer window instead, but in file type, I can figure out how to get "open" back as the default when I click on these folders. The right click menu either has expand greyed out, or doesn't have it at all. Open is the third item, and find first (now) with command window second. How do I reset these? And, any idea what would have messed them up? I did start sharing with my son's computer and I downloaded firefox 1.0.3.
My XP Pro SP2 PC is now doing something rather strange.Instead of open a folder in Windows Explorer, it opens a command prompt window, to the path of the folder, when the folder icon is clicked. This only happens if I click on a folder in the right pane of Windows Explorer. Clicking on a folder in the left pane opens the folder in the right pane, as it should.I have the same problem with any shortcuts to folders on my Desktop. Instead of opening the folder, it opens a commnad prompt with the path to the folder.I know this has something to do with the File Types tab.If you click Tools, Folder Options, in Windows Explorer. However, when I go into the Advanced properties of "File Folder", I can only Add, I can't Edit or Remove. And yes, I am logged on as a member of the Admins group.
Can Windws XP be starting by giving a command on the command line of a "DOS Window" , either from the C: drive or a floppy drive where you booted with an emergency backup disk ? If so, what are the details ?
i bought star wars battlefront 2. my swbf2 disk broken (broke disk #2). the good thing is that i could still play with disk 1... until i got a virus and had to clean install windows. luckly b4 that happened i burnt all the swbf2 data to a dvd. now i copied everything from the disk to E:programfileslucasarts starwarsbattlefrontII (its an external harddrive) but it doesnt show up in the add remove thing. i heard that the windows registry handles things like this, so how can i update the registry to show swbf2 installed? i have windows xp sp2.
My brothers Dell Dimension 4600 will not put out any video signal. I've tried two working monitors and nothing. I can hear the harddrive working in a somewhat normal manner just after power on but there is never a hint from the monitor. Anyway, I offered to at least pop off the side cover and take a look for any hint of what may be the problem. Since he just moved to another town, his computer was subjected to the usual transportation handling etc. So what would be the usual things to check. I've never had a Dell or Windows XP Home. (I have Win98SE and Win2kp) Kinda hard to do anything right off when there is no video
I would like to know if this can be done in win xp environment. say I have a folder, A, of pictures only and they all have file extensions jpg eg abc.jpg, xyz.jpg. say I have a second folder, B, which contains all the files of A(if you ignore extensions) and more(but all are pictures.) But all the files in B has extensions NEF instead of jpg eg abc.NEF, efg.NEF, xyz.NEF. My idea is to extract all the files from B that has the same the name as A(ignoring extensions) and either move or copy to a separate folder ie if A contains abc.jpg, xyz.jpg then abc.NEF and xyz.NEF will be extracted and moved/copied to a new folder. I'm not sure where to start. is there a program out there that can do this? or there's a special command to type at the command prompt?
Previously I have been doing work that requires me to unplug my network connection and I need to check my IP address each time I plug it in again. I guess it's not set for static IP.Anyways to do this I usually go into Command Prompt and type 'ipconfig'Now however I just get "'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".The directory is the same as its always been, I can change it but it doesn't seem to matter what it is.I've checked many other posts and is there something possibly wrong with my PATH variable? I used the command 'echo %PATH%' and it works, the list it gives is very garbled however.

I cannot view in full screen anymore.I created a website that lets a user enter their name and social # and then choose a test in 1 of 3 languages. Once you choose a language, a new browser window opens and the test/information is displayed in this new window.
Ever since I bought my laptop a couple of years ago I have had this annoying screen pop up every time the computer starts up entitled Avance AC '97 Audio Setup (4.70) Maintenance Complete..in the window itself it reads.... When i open any link with "open in new window" the new window is not full size screen window.Of course i dragged it by mouse many times and that should fix it later. It means it should be opened as it had been dragged, but that's never happened though i dragged it about a hundred time as a full screen size. What is the wrong here?
I just replaced my old Windows 2000 HD with a newly purchased HD and installed Windows XP Pro/SP2 with all the latest updates from MS.When opened this web page by placing cursor on the line and click, the Google page appears briefly on the myWin.doc window but immediately closes and opens a new, different size window for the Google web page. In the old Windows 2000, the Google page remains opened on the same window overlapping the myWin.doc window and no new window is opened.
I noticed a lot of services running under one of my svchost.exe processes when I ran the "tasklist /svc" command in the Command Prompt. Here's what I got: AudioSrv, BITS, Browser, CryptSvc, DHCP, dmserver, ERSvc, EventSystem, FastUserSwitchingCompatibilty, helpsvc, HidServ, lanmanserver, lanmanworkstation, Netman, Nla, RasMan, Schedule, seclogon, SENS, SharedAccess, ShellHWDetection, srservice, TapiSrv, Themes, TrkWks, W32Time, winmgmt, wscsvc, wuaserv, WZCSVC I'm not at all sure if any of those are real threats

My question is: In Win XP Pro SP2, is there a reboot command (executable) in the Windows (or any other) folder? If so, would you please tell me where it is. I would like to use the task scheduler to reboot the computer at the start of each day, and hopefully without going through a lot of hoops.
I have Windows XP on my computer, and when I try to ping something through the command prompt (command.com), this shows up:Running tracert also has the same problem. If I try running ping or tracert through cmd.exe, it stalls and doesn't do anything. I have to close the program because it doesn't respond.I can use ipconfig in both cmd.exe and command.com. Do I have a virus on my computer, or is there a way to repair the command prompt?
I have created a command file called Runinstall.cmd in C: I put these lines in Runinstall.cmd to call another command file (Install.cmd) in different location, the Runinstall.cmd can call the Install.cmd in different location , but some silly things occur.I use Install.cmd to install software programmes. As the installers or items are in the same directory as the Install.cmd, I can just specify the file names without specifying the path of the files in the Install.cmd.
Every time I start up windows cmd.exe opens up and the command to shut down is made and it shuts down. I have temporarily solved this problem by renaming cmd.exe just to another name of cmg.exe so that it cannot be opened but I do run batch programs so have to keep changing the name when required. Any suggestions would be helpful as to sort this out.
I'm using XP Prof. at work. When I clear the history, etc. in Internet Options, it does not erase the memory in the "Run" command uner "Start." How can I erase that memory?
