I had just turned our home into a wireless environment.....all machines working well. had just downloaded Service pack 2 from Microsoft site....and laptop crashes and I have to do a Non-Destructive reovery. Many, many data have not re-appeared.
Last Saturday I had to use the recovery disc that came inside my computer because when I tried to start the computer; just the black screen appeared, saying 'ntldr is missing Press ctrl + alt + del to restart' . I did that several times but the problem was still there. So, after the recovery I normally started the computer and logged on. I did the non-destructive system recovery. Anyways;I noticed that all my files I had in the Shared Docuemnts were stil there. I noticed that the storage percentage on the C Drive was the same I had before (93%) So, I assume that all my files, documents, music files and videos are somewhere in the computer

Last week when I connected to the internet while browsing may be some virus came into it and my Laptop (Acer Aspire 5050) start malfunctioning. I decided to install windows XP SP2 again, while installing it started formatting my hard drive without prompting for it in the mean while it got restarted and I lost my whole data. About a week ago my computer was degenerating to such a condition that it would no longer start up properly: it would not load some of the host process properly at start up and the desk top would not appear. The system would hang up, and the only way I could access files was in safe mode.So I decided to do a Full System Recovery and allow the computer to restore itself to some sort of usable condition. Upon completing the initial set up I was presented with, I pressed FINISH and the system froze again, refusing to load the desktop.
So, perhaps foolishly, I attempted a System Recovery from the Recovery DVDs the computer had prompted me to make a while ago, as well as a few more System Restores and Recoveries
my pc started goin into what looked like the old windows 95 after booting up after a few mins everytime and nothing would work very good so i tried system recovery and it didnt respond so i decided to to do a non destuctive reinstallation of windows. so after it was all reinstalled i looked for my data when i hold my cursor over the hard drive in my computer its says total size 350 gb free space 160gb so my datas is there somewhere and in documents and settings there is two administrator folders so one i will have my data in but i cnnot access it it comes up a error access is denied.

It show's this message and reboots every single time when starting up Windows XP. I tried recovering the windows from the Recovery CD but it goes to the Gateway Symbol n freezes there and I have to restart the system every single time and try to boot from the recovery CD. it goes searching for recovery date on the hard drive and if not found any it will boot the recovery cd. but it goes to this scan and just freezes there with running the recovery data from the cd.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI work at a computer repair shop and am trying to find an easy way to do something that normally takes me a long time.I want to take in a customers somputer who has multiple user accounts, backup those accounts without backing up the entire registry (entire registry backup would in effect "backup" most problems i am fiing), then do a "destructive recovery (totally reinstalling their OS, and then somehow restore all of their old user accounts and the associated settings, my documents folders, etc.NTbackup will allow me to backup all accounts to an eternal HDD but it wont restore them if they are not on the newly installed OS.

I have tried disabling DEP for windows explorer and now i dont get the DEP message, but i still get "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've had a similar problem with my old computer where certain video files would cause windows explorer to crash, and i believe the same thing is happening here except that my new CPU uses the DEP feature.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to open any folder from the desktop, or explorer(right click start button), or my documents, they don't open, but program shortcuts seem to work. Once inside a program I can navigate to and open folders I couldn't do previousy on desktop. It seems just an error when on the desktop itself.
My wallpaper vanishes and the active desktop recovery screen appears telling me to restore the desktop after somekind of windows error.
I lost my system recovery disc. I also lost all of my games that came with windows...free cell, solitaire, paint..etc. I just want those back. Can I run a system recovery program on windows without a disc

But then everything started lagging and stuff and then froze and I had to restart my computer. When I restarted it, all the icons on the desktop wouldnt work and had no picture. Also when I clicked start and looked under all programs nothings there. All the folders still there too but either its empty or same thing with the desktop. I was lucky enough to be able to get a browser up though and came on to this site through google. im using XP.

So I did a windows search for all *.bc! files and deleted them from there. The files were deleted and I can't see them anywhere but my hard drive space stayed absolutely the same. I tried everything, deleting temp files, removing system restore, defragmenting, scandisk, searching for them in system and hidden folders, everything. What else can I do? I tried again with a different program and they didn't show up at all. Can somebody help me please?
i want to restore my computer to its original configuration. i know the in the partition named -: (yeah, its like that) lies the information for it, but the computer on startup will not give me that choice (like pressing f10 to restore)... my question is "how do I restore manually using all that data in there?"

I recently had a machine die and am trying to migrate my old data to an external drive, however, many files and directories in my Dirs and Setttings folder will not copy. I get access denied. The most frustrating part of this is the radomness that this happens: some files and dirs copy fine others don't. Those that don't have read-only marked when I go into properties; I uncheck it then apply changes, try to copy and the whole circle starts again.

View 1 Replies View Relatedlet's just say me and my PC haven't been getting along very well lately . In the last 2 weeks I've successfully fought off a nasty CWS infection, subsequently upgraded to XP SP2 and all the latest patches, and now this. I was using the machine yesterday morning, and it was exceedingly sluggish. Task Manager showed that TurboTax which I'd left running wasn't responding. I repeatedly attempted to close TT, and 2 minutes later it finally closed. Instead of rebooting immediately, I went to IE to browse the web. A few minutes later the machine came screeching to a halt. No BSOD, just frozen.
I resigned myself to using the reset button. On the reboot, the machine started to load XP, then reset on its own back to the BIOS splash screen. I attempted to reboot normally, same thing. Last known good configuration, same thing. Safe Mode, same thing. So, XP is hosed. I loaded the System Recovery console and started looking around. Dir reports a problem enumerating directories on C:/. Chkdisk reports there are errors it can't fix.
Is is safe to remove the "recovery data" folder from my HD this folder is 2 gigs in size and i need the extra space is has 4 files in it recovery.PQL, recovery.002, recovery.003, recovery.004

I clicked delete when they popped up and proceeded to attempt to restart my computer in safe mode to run mbam to get rid of an "antivirus" program that installed itself on my computer. When I tried to restart though I kept getting an "Invalid form id" error and had to do a system recovery.

I guess at this point i should have sent it to a technician!...anyway i found a number of forum posts with the same problem and followed the instructions to do 'chkdsk' from MS DOS. This looked to be doing stuff.... but now... instead of a blue screen I get nothing...the screen just goes blank!

I've been collecting raw data night and day for research from a subscribed data provider (Worldscope/Datastream) for nearly 3 weeks. I kept the PC running day and night because I set up the "Request Manager" for data query. Every one or two day, I saved the batches of data downloaded, cleaned the raw data using SAS, and then ran the next query, and so on. Everything had been fine until one day when I came back to the office to do the usual tasks. To my surprise, my PC look very, very much like it's been reinstalled from scratch without saving anything. Symptons that persuade me to conclude this way is:
- No files/folders that I set up on desktop were there
- My settings are all totally different: I used to keep Task Bar on the right, now it's at the bottom. All "Favorites" on Internet Explorer/Firefox/Google Chrome are all gone, nothing there, no favorites, no favorite bars....
- Usually, when I use hotmail, skype, yahoo mail, etc..., I entered username and leave the PC remember it so that I won't have to re-enter username everytime I want to check for mails. Now, when I open hotmail, skype or yahoo, it's all gone just as if somebody reset the internet explorer or something
- Previously, whenever inside WORD/EXCEL I always see files on "Recent Documents", or when clicking on Start Menu, I used to see files on "My Recent Documents". NOW, on that terrible day, there's nothing like that. ALL GONE, it looks just like somebody has reinstalled the PC without letting us know
- Previously, I kept the settings for Internet Explorer, let's say I keep small Google on the top far right corner but removed Google toolbar with many features. Now, Google toolbars with full features are there, just as if somebody reinstalled Internet Explorer and reinstalled Google toolbars with full features without customizing
- All things that often stay on "Recent Documents" or things like that in some applications such as SAS, Stata, etc... are all gone
ONE MORE THING: My university sometimes runs maintenance for all PCs in the School and in the lab. I'm talking about this because perhaps the maintenance automatically reinstalled the whole PC??? I suspect it couldn't???
I'm trying to set up some accounts on my XPSP3 system. I have some accounts set up, but wanted to change some names. I know that if I change an account name, the directory name stays the same, and I didn't want to get confused later on if I was ever doing some stuff on that directory level.I used this page to copy the settings from my account (named "Main") to a new account named "Admin". I had problems getting access to the folder while in the 3rd account, so followed the instructions here to gain access. Once I got it copied, I loaded Admin and found it looked exactly like Main, which is what I wanted.But then, I went into Main and most everything was gone, and XP was acting as if it was a brand new account. I then went into Documents and Settings and found there were now TWO Main accounts. "Main" and "Main.DARKSIDE" (DARKSIDE is the "full computer name" found in System Properties). I can tell by the directory sizes that Main is the fresh, new account I see in my account list and Main.DARKSIDE appears to be my original Main account (being over 6GB in size).
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy computer was recently in for repair. I told the technician under no account were any files to be deleted/erased. When I got the computer home after repair I noticed that although my files were indeed 'untouched' (not deleted) they were however in a 'place' where I knew I would have trouble finding. I made a mental note that I would get back to finding my photos later. I had to download and re-install my security system first and foremost as well as Windows updates. One of these Windows Updates (Service Pack 3 maybe) advised to back-up my files before installing. I didn't.
Now I can't find these files/photos/pictures anywhere on my computer. There were over 4000.
Have I lost these for good ? Or is there a way to recover them ?
i have found that my little bro has accidentally formated my hdd and deleted partitions also then he created new partitions and installed XP. now is there any hope or a way that i can recover my previous data ????
