Cannot Retrieve Data After Non Destructive Reinstallation
Mar 2, 2009
my pc started goin into what looked like the old windows 95 after booting up after a few mins everytime and nothing would work very good so i tried system recovery and it didnt respond so i decided to to do a non destuctive reinstallation of windows. so after it was all reinstalled i looked for my data when i hold my cursor over the hard drive in my computer its says total size 350 gb free space 160gb so my datas is there somewhere and in documents and settings there is two administrator folders so one i will have my data in but i cnnot access it it comes up a error access is denied.
I had just turned our home into a wireless environment.....all machines working well. had just downloaded Service pack 2 from Microsoft site....and laptop crashes and I have to do a Non-Destructive reovery. Many, many data have not re-appeared.
to transfer that data in another pc. But some reason my usb hard disk not working detecting on both pc in this way lost my all data. I want ask you can i recover CUT data from original hard disk? and How?
I own legal copies of a number of software packages, but have misplaced the CD-keys. Is there a way to retrieve the data from a backup of the XP registry drive?
I have two pc's and they are nearly identical. Mine just had major issues and I want to retrieve the data on the system before I try either a fresh install on that HDD, or perhaps get a new HDD and swap that instead of my current one.I don't know if it's my HDD that failed, but after a major episode, and doing a repair, it keeps locking up on the checks and when bypassing that, it still locks up when I do get to log in. I tried to system restore, but apparently I don't have a restore point to do this, it just points to today. So, I've read that I can put the HDD from pc #1 (which is having the issues) into pc #2, which is working just fine) and transfer pics, docs, fav places, etc, that I want to save.I have no idea how this works. I've read about slaving and jumpers and such and this is all greek to me. I'm a reasonable beginner insofar as I know enough to really get myself in trouble, so I could REALLY use a detailed step by step description of what I should do. I'd also like to do some kind of diagnostic on the HDD from the pc that is exhibiting the problem to see if I do indeed need to get a new one.
my problem is that Windows XP is slow to start. It has gradually been getting slower since I started using it in January 2008, but last week it took a significant turn for the worse (about five minutes to load). Once it is up and running, it seems okay, although on occasions recently the mouse cursor has lagged behind its actual position. I am worried that malware may be the cause of the problem; particularly because of the sudden downwards jump in performance.
I have run the Windows Cleanup facility and the Defragmenter a couple of times. I have deleted files in various temp folders. I have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i running, and I ran a full system scan, which returned nothing. I also ran scans with Spybot, Lavasofts Ad-Watch, Spyware Terminator, McAfee Stinger, and Trend Micro on-line scan. All returned nothing. I ran CCleaner, and it cleared out some junk. I have reviewed HijackThis output files (in ignorance). I manually turned off a few startup processes, and that seemed to improve matters a little. I still feel that I am failing to deal with the real issue though. I am edgy about turning off more processes, because I'm uncertain of what they do. I can refer to bleeping computer.com, and similar sites, but it is not always clear whether a process is honest, or it is a destructive process with an honest name.
Last Saturday I had to use the recovery disc that came inside my computer because when I tried to start the computer; just the black screen appeared, saying 'ntldr is missing Press ctrl + alt + del to restart' . I did that several times but the problem was still there. So, after the recovery I normally started the computer and logged on. I did the non-destructive system recovery. Anyways;I noticed that all my files I had in the Shared Docuemnts were stil there. I noticed that the storage percentage on the C Drive was the same I had before (93%) So, I assume that all my files, documents, music files and videos are somewhere in the computer
I recently ran non-destructive system recovery In windows XP, it worked fine except now I can not locate the files that used to be in the 'owners documents' section.
Since removing the shipped HP HDD from my PC and replacing it with a 3rd party fresh one, I am concerned about how I will now go about recovering my PC. When Windows had problems in the past, I could simply press F10 on startup and there was a diagnostic section which allowed me to reformat in an either destructive or non-destructive way. What happens if my computer doesn't start up nowadays? As in, the Windows Loading logo screen appears and then the monitor goes black and stays black.. Is there any software or method to allow me to have some sort of management over this? Sorry if I have not been able to correctly ask my question.. Kinda hard.
I work at a computer repair shop and am trying to find an easy way to do something that normally takes me a long time.I want to take in a customers somputer who has multiple user accounts, backup those accounts without backing up the entire registry (entire registry backup would in effect "backup" most problems i am fiing), then do a "destructive recovery (totally reinstalling their OS, and then somehow restore all of their old user accounts and the associated settings, my documents folders, etc.NTbackup will allow me to backup all accounts to an eternal HDD but it wont restore them if they are not on the newly installed OS.
How do I retrieve a lost password? When I attempt to set account info I get "error 0x80070005 access is denied. you do not have permission to perform the required operation." I am the administrator.
I had an image from an email as my desktop image and accidentally changed it to the default. The email image I was using previously is not saved anywhere on my computer and I do not have the email anymore. For the first five or six times I turned the computer on or off the old image would flash for a brief second (this no longer happens). I am wondering if the email image might be saved somewhere that might be possible to retrieve or is it gone for good?
I am doing a repair install of my windows XP. The program is asking for the volume licence nr. When I enter the number on the disk it says that the nr is invalid. Is there any way to retrieve this information from my old installation. I cannot get into windows because of an Harddrive error that was repaired.
I had a bad HDD failure which corrupted part of my WinXP OS with the result that I am unable to boot into Windows. I have reloaded Windows on another HDD and I will be able to recover most of my data from backups. However, there is still some recent data on the bad disk which I am frantic to recover. I am able to find the "Documents and Settings" folder where I believe the "Outlook Express" data is held
I am unable to get into the folder as my username on the computer was passworded (the password is known). Neither am I allowed to copy the folder to my new drive. I cannot access the folder from my new OS even when I password myself with the same username / password. I have attempted to repair the bad drive's copy of Windows but that wasn't successful. I don't want to replace the bad copy with a fresh as this would reformat the drive taking with it the folder I want (and can't copy). Any work on the folder would need to be on the bad drive, it seems. I have run out of ideas.

I don't know how I did it, but I deleted some very important info into my trash and then deleted my trash. It seems my restore system only does a restore once a day, and yesterday at 4:00 doesn't work for me.I thought my old version of widows had something like that. Any ideas
I am new to this forum but not a new user to Windows XP. I need your help. I have a windows XP orginal CD. I had made a backup copy of it as soon as i had received it. But unfortunately I didnt make a backup copy of the Product Key, for which I am here. No I am not asking you to come to my house and search for the 'lost' Cd. I want to ask that how can I retrieve my Windows Product Key from the installed XP I already have. I know you are going to say Majic Jelly Bean software, very useful. But then agein there is another problem. My existing windows installation is corrupted and I cannot log on to. I have managed to have a clean install on another partition with an invalid key (read crack), although I dont intend to do so. So please help if I could anyhow recover my original CD Key.
It looks I lost my booklet with the instalation code for my computer system. I bought my HP Pavilion a1012x 2 years ago. I created emergency, recovery dvd as instructed at that time. It looks I missplaced the code for the installation of it(can't find it anywhere). I wanted to clean my hard disc due to the fact that my comp has become very slow. I think reinstallation of the system would be the best solution as I tried for virus search, registry reparation, creating new recovery points, removing some programs but all without result. Is there any chance and way to recover my installation code from my computer now in order to reinstall my operating system from my emergency dvd? My OS is Windows XP HE, SP2, with all updates(76477-OEM-0011903-00106
few days back i lock folder with folder lock software. but now i cant retrieve that folder. please help me that is very important folder. after opening folder lock it doesn't show as locked items .
Please help. I have a old hard drive that was crashed. However, I need some important files from it. I tried to boot up it as a second hard drive with my XP computer that is NTFS, but I can't see files from that hard drive. I couldn't convert it to NTFS because it is a 500MB hard drive. Please teach me how to get files from it.
I need to change my password the my local PC to coincide with my password to logon into the servor. Surprisingly to me, the password I'm sure I entered is returning incorrect password. The ID is correct.I tried the instructions from this link: http://www.xppasswordrecovery.co.uk/ but am unable to do step 3;(I typed A:upload.txt in dos editor and get the text file).
I have got 3 partitions on my HDD namely C, D and E drive.C is the windows drive , the other two are normal data storage drives. Yesterday when i started the PC, i found that all the folders on my E drive have become empty and the files which i can see do not work. Everything on the partition has become useless.Even though all folders show 0 files, the used disk space is same as before. Is it some kind of virus?
One more thing, i tried to system restore. When i reached the system restore screen, i found out that all my restore points are gone and i cant restore my PC to any earlier date, even though i have assigned nearly 20% of each disk for creating restore points. Even the calendar in system restore screen wont show a previous month except the current month.
My hard drive died on me recently. I bought a new one, put the jumper on master and put the dead hard drive on slave hoping to retrieve the files that were stored on it, but my computer won't recognize it. I checked the cable connections and they seem to be fine. When I put another good hard drive on slave the computer does recognize it. Could I still somehow retreive the files from the old hard drives or did I lose them for good?
