I purchased an lcd monitor to replace the crt one I have. WHen I hook up the lcd monitor the only way I can get it to dispay anything recognizeable is when I boot it in vga mode. when I go to adjust the display setting afterward it goes back into the jumbled unrecognizeable mess and It gets set back to the lowest settings to get anything to show up. anyone have any solutions?

1.(E: Drive) CDROM that came with PC
2.(D: Drive) Installed a 2nd CDROM (TDK) With Read/Write Capabilities (Used Roxio software)
3.(F: Drive) Installed an adapter for about 4 USB ports to upload pictures
Then we installed WindowsXP, Professional Edition.
1.The CDROM that came with PC still worked
2.The Installed CDROM could at first create music CD's but not with the Roxio Software
3.We could not create data CD's
4.We could upload pictures from digital camera for a while.
5.Now, for some reason, the D:, E: or the F: drives are not recognized. When a CD is placed into the D: or E: drive, a message pops up to the screen to �enter a CD into the drive�. We went into the Device Manager in the Control Panel, but it shows that all of the drives are working properly. I�m thinking that it might have something to do with the Windows Registry, but that�s scary. And since it�s WindowsXP, the boot up disk is actually the CD and that�s no good, because the CD player is inoperable.
Is there a way to find out what programs that are associated in msconfig.Some are recognizable, and others, don't know or won't seem to disable?dumprep 0-k %stemroot%system32dumprep 0-k (dash is a small dash seemingly attached to the k)I don't recall this one, and tried to disable it with no luck.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a full HD image of my Dell c800 Laptop using Drive Image 7 (circa 2003) to an USB HD. I have tried twice and received failures about my HD having bad sectors OR locked sectors. I ran check disc with repair and did not find any problems. Re-ran check disc from the boot disc that came with the application and found no problems with the disc. Tried again for a backup and received the same error. I am thinking it is one of the programs I have loaded has a locked sector or one of my processes that loads during boot is the problem?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo two days ago my computer suddenly decides that when I arrive back home it would want to start running like a win 95. Thus, I promted to shut it down. Once it arrived to the loading screen after the reboot nothing occurred. I then decided to wait... 30mins later it goes black and then the message arrives: "Winlogon.exe-Badimage The Application or DLL C:/Windows/System32/sfc.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation disk settings." I have alot of stuff on my computer I need for work, is the only option to deleted everything and re add XP?

It has one Digital and one Analog port on the back.
I had it setup using 1920 x 1080 on both ports (dual monitor).
But I can't get that to work again.
When I set the monitor using the VGA port to 1920x1080 then it displays 1280x720 on the monitor, but the video card is outputting 1920x1080. The display seems to scroll when the mouse is on the edge of the screen because obviously it can't display 1920x1080 on a 1280x720 resolution.
So as of now, my monitor is displaying everything really big and it's useless at this point.
I upgraded an emachines t2542 from xp home to pro. Now I can't fix the resoluyion past 4 bits. Did the advanced settings, but all that is listed is "default monitpr" with no option to click on 'properties'. Went into device manager and there is no 'display' tab. The only items with ???? on them are an audio and a 'vga' device. I tried to update driver for vga, but it says it cannot be found even though I have the HP 17vs disk in.

Also on the resolution page it shows a plug and play in lieu of a monitor. This computer is used mainly for computer games and internet. I thought about reformatting the hard drive since playing the medal of honor game sometimes the pc locks up but I can't find my restore cds.

I reloaded Windows XP with SP 1 which is the CD that came with my system (about 5 yrs ago). I completed the install & now the images on my screen are all screwed up. When I go to change the resolution the only selection in 640 X 480 Resolution 16 bit. When I go to Device Manager I do not see an ICON for my video. I also do not have sound. Can someone help me with this. I have an integrated motherboard. The video & audio cards are burnt into the motherboard. Can someone please help me with this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a virus (supposedly) that was ending my explorer.exe over and over again, and the process in the task manager that appeared to be doing so was IEXPLORE.EXE, I know thats IE, but I figured since IE is broken on my computer (go figure) and I have FireFox, why not attempt to delete IE, because every time I ended the process it would come back.So I went into safe mode, I went and deleted the whole IE program folder (stupid thinking) and went back into normal windows. What I saw scared me... I had 4 bit colors (which is what I'm on right now typing to you guys) and 800x600 resolution, and I can't put it any higher.

I change the Settings back to what I like, restart the computer and it will login with my settings then the screen will go blank for a couple seconds and reset to the lowest settings again. Whenever I open Outlook (Office 2003 with all updates installed), the screen blanks, then reloads with 8 bit color. If I change it to 32 bit while Outlook is open, after about 30 seconds, the same blank-reload happens. When I exit Outlook, the sequence reverses, (blank -32 bit reloads). I have tried resetting my display resolution, from every program, nothing works. Interestingly, changing from a CRT to an LCD monitor has made no difference at all.

They are all in the same workgroup, and all except 1 work fine, but on 1 computer i have the following problems:If i click view workgroup computers, it says i do not have permission to acces it, even though i have my workgroup set the same as on the other 3 computers. If i type the name of another computer into explorer like this: \workPC it says it cannot find it, while on other 2 computers it works (and on the 3rd too of course, since that one is called workPC). Also remote desktop connection doesn't work if i type in workPC, but it works on the other 3 computers.
But the other 3 computers cannot see this 4th computer either, it doesn't show up when i click view workgroup computers. It's as if it wasn't in the workgroup, even though i've triple checked it and it's the same as on all other computers.I can, however, access all other 3 computers via IP, like \192.168.0.5 and such, and that works, it also works via IP for remote desktop connection.
The problem that bothers me most, though, is that i cannot remote desktop into this 4th computer, even though remote desktop is enabled and it should work. I can remote desktop to other 3 computers from this computer, but not the other way around. When i try to connect to it (via IP since it doesn't work via it's name), it asks me for the username and password. I enter those correctly, then i get a warning i always get (something about "Remote Desktop cannot verify the identitfy of the computer you want to connect to." (and so on)). After i click yes (*i want to connect anyway*), it just returns me to the window that asks you for the name of the computer to connect to, and that's it.
I am setting up my other laptop (older) that runs XP, I set the screen resolution to where windows told me to but the icons and buttons across the bottom are really small.How do I make the icons, etc etc larger and more readable without sacrificing the clarity? So I learned about the dpi setting in Display PropertiesSettingsAdvanced screen. However since this magnifies things for the same resolution, I am not sure why that is better than just using a lower resolution or even what the difference between the 2 options is.

I installed the graphic card. When windows starts it shows on both monitors, but then one turns off.. The black screen becomes the primary window where all my icons are. When I try to go to property it shows on the black screen monitor.
My guess I have to change the resolution. Is there a a shortcut key I can press to change the primary monitor. Or what should I do?
While surfing the net suddenly my windows XP screen changed and the desktop icons expanded to fill the desktop space I tried the resolution but it did not work and now the preloaded games like spider etc are looking weird and everything looks a bit spaaced out if you know what I mean. I beloeve the issue must be simple but I dont know too much about the tech side

And I went into display properties and changd my res and my color bit back to the highest,but it wouldnt change, but yet again it said the highest was like 32 bit and im pretty sure there was 256 or something higher.

I can do nslookups successfully. I can talk to any service I've tried on the internet using ip address, but I cannot do so using names. For example, nslookup www.google.com gives me the expected result, telnet [google's ip] 80 gets me connected, but telnet www.google.com 80 fails because it can't resolve the name.I've reset tcp/ip with netsh, I've reinstalled "Client for Microsoft Networks", I've rebooted many times and flushed DNS cache manually.

View 15 Replies View RelatedThe video card on this computer would just cut out from time to time, and i'd to have re-set the cable for it to work. i figured theres a loose connection, so i got another video card to replace it with, since this is a work computer.So after installing the new (actually its a used video card, ASUS v7700 TIvx, but still definitely works) video card, the computer starts up at the correct resolution, 800x600. It looks fine, but when you drag anything or scroll on a web page, the video lags. So i found the correct drivers and installed them, and rebooted.
The computer reboots in 640x480 at 4-bit color quality. when i change the resolution to 800x600 at 32-bit color quality, it just defaults back to 640x480 at 4-bit. i found that i can change the resolution to 800x600 at 4-bit, but when i try 16-bit or 32-bit quality, it just go right back to 640x480 at 4-bit.i thought maybe it was the video card, and tried to install the old one again (its a geforce 2 mx card). so i re-install it and install the correct drivers, and still the same exact thing happens, (prior to any of this, the geforce 2 mx card worked fine at 800x600 at 32-bit) i can't get it to correctly change to 800x600 at 32bit, it just keeps defaulting back to 640x480 at 4-bit.
I updated Windows XP to Service Pack 2 yesterday. After installing and re-booting, the screen resolution and the colours of my monitor have changed (big icons and only four colours), which makes it look like it was in Safe Mode (which it isn't).I have tried to change the screen resolution and the colours under Display properties - Settings, but it only gives me the option of a screen resolution of "640x480 pixels" (the slider won't move) and colour quality of "Lowest 4 bit".I presumed it was a driver issue so I have tried to uninstall the graphics controller in the device manager and re-install it with the latest driver.
