I have had this problem since I reinstalled win xp. Whenever I try to open a link in IE in a new browser window, the IE freezes up. The system doesn't crash. The original IE screen goes blank for a few seconds and then re appears as if nothing happened. This is also the problem with links that open new browser windows.
I'm at my wits end and don't know what to do.
I'm using Windows XP on Toshiba Satellite 1415 S173. The problem that I'm having is that every time I attempt to open any file on my desktop or anything such as 'my computer' 'my documents' or 'control panel' etc. the screen freezes and eventually i get an error that says "Drwatson postmortem debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close".
Using Win 2000.The problem is every time a java aplet open a moment later my computer freeze. Nothing can be done but reset the computer. What can I do?
This place is quite active, and I am glad to see that. I own a Dell 4600 Demension computer, it was purchased about a year and a half ago. I recently reinstalled Windows on it, and reinstalled the drivers/utilities that were needed, with the help of a Dell expert. I have Windows XP Home Edition right now. I have the Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE for my spyware protection, and I have the AVG from Grifsoft for my virus protection. I scan my computer every night, and I keep all my databases up-to-date. Recently, my computer was infected with the Trojan Backdoor.SdBot virus, and I looked on the Norton Antiviruses website to get rid of it and fix the computer. So now, at this time, I believe my computer is clean.
I can be doing anything, so not even be around the computer and it freezes, could freeze on the screen saver, or when im on hte internet, or playin a game, or writing an email anything.... not an overheating problem because it has happened say right after its done booting, or 5 mins after running or say 12 hours after being on.... or jsut not freeze seems to be really random
I've recently started experiencing a frustrating problem with my XP system pc which I hope someone can help with.My pc will boot up fine to the normal desktop.I can start/run "some" programs without problems ie. Windows Explorer - Norton Utilities/Antivirus - Belarc Advisor - Ewido Easycleaner.Other programs such as - Internet Explorer - SisoftSandra - Aol - Windows XP system Restore - will "almost always" cause the pc to Lock/Freeze with no use of the mouse/keyboard or access to the Task Manager to close the program. The lock-up's appear to occur when I try to run Internet based programs such as AOL - IE but will also freeze with SisoftSandra & the XP Restore facility? Very occasionally I can start/run AOL - IE and all other programs without problems but these occurences are few and far between.
Window XP, Dell Dimenison 4400. Everytime when i click 'IE' (big blue E) to open, type for website to open, but then freeze, i did try click anywhere but nothing, it say (Not Responding) on top of bar, click 'X' to close, popup it say 'This program is not responding', so try again IE to open, same thing, thats sometimes is fine and sometimes freeze. Why that? i did try Spybot, AVG, Adware, microsoft antivirus, nothing found!
I had the same system configuration for over years and never had any problems. Just recently I started using wireless connection rather than regular LAN.I started having randomly freezing problem while browsing internet or even once playing game.More specifically, all applications but the mouse freezes randomly and then after about 1 sec the screen flashes into black, but it turns back to the windows after another sec or two and then everything just froze, not able to move the mouse any more nor open up Process Manager. My only option is hit the hard-reset button and restart the windows.Everything back to normal after restart. Since the problem occurs randomly, its really hard for me to know where to diagnose the problem.
Well it started with winxp freezing during bootup, when it displays the windows logo with the blue bar shooting back and forth....then it would just freeze and quit moving. So i didnt want to deal with it, wanted to start over anyway, so i threw in the emachines winxp restore cd 1.0. Formatted the hard drive fine, rebooted, started the winxp setup. Chose my timeszones, agreed to some disclaimer... then i get to the next screen where it asks "What's your computer's name?". Hit next again, then it freezes again! It freeze right on the "What's your computer's name?" screen. The buttons go white (can select anything), then it acts like its about to take you to the next setup screen, but stays at the "What's your computer's name?" screen.Figured it for a bad hard driver. Went and got a new one, ran the same cds, and the same exact thing happens, freezes at "What's your computer's name?".
I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).
When I open my documents, it assigns all my text files to open in Word Pad. I would like it to open assinging all my files as Microsoft Word files. How can I change this?
when ever i start any video application it shows that something has gone wrong and prog is to be closed, and pror closes everything on desktop closes and disappear only to reappear again after some time.
I had a game Counter-Strike and it requires Steam to run it. In the Steam folder there's also a Bin Folder that wont seem to delete. I click on it, but all it does is lag my computer for about 5 minutes, well more like freeze. And in the end i can't delete the folder.
we had Windows XP Pro and it was working. then we started to freeze up, we took it in and they said that there was a bad file in XP, we were able to get on the net but then the other day when we started the computer up we got a message say.. 0x8007002 Preventing window from accurately checking the license from this computer.
Computer seems to freeze and go to a black screen after or before the xp screen, sometimes even when she first turns it on. and lately she says her computers been running slow.
It started a few days ago. Programs just lock up the whole system, the system would freeze but no lock up, or it would boot me out of a program all together. Starting today, when I exited a program, the screens would go blank (the monitors would flip into power save mode [with the little blinky light]). I dont know what is going on. It is also slowing down something fierce. I have a p4 2.6, 1.2 gb RAM, 80gb hd, ATI 9200SE Video card. I hope I can get some ideas as to what is wrong.
Ever since i bought the PC i had a trouble every now and then upon bootup, the xp loading bar would freeze. I would restart select the option to start in safe mood. Then would reboot and start normally. Happened maybe 4 or 5 times in the six months i have had the PC. However i turned it on today the same thing happened so i started in safe mood and still had the problem when i tried to reboot. Next step i went to msconfig and removed all non essential startup items. Then repeated the reboot step and still no luck. Since then i have tried to reboot a number of times. Now the next problem is my PC now freezes when i click safe mode.Anyone have any idea as to what can be done or what could be broken.
one cd burner and 1 dvd player The computer has been working fine for a week while testing and instaling things before i gave it to the user, the user started using microsoft outlook 2003 w/o a problem but i saw the computer frozen yesterday or not responding while he was working with M.OUTL 2003, it is the only thing this user use for email, Norton S. 2005 INCLUDES spyware, antivirus, and yo know the rest, do you think can be a malware, i check the cpu temperature and it is about 45-46celcium and motherb 41c, i don't think it is to bad , the computer boots really quick and logon to our network but after a few seconds on the desktop mouse or keyboard does not respond neither ctrl+alt+ del,
I am currently running Windows XP. My other half was logged on and he surfs a lot of music sites for latest releases. After one of his uses we started to get this message when we would try to switch users MediaAcck.exe and the computer freezes. It asked you to click cancel or OK and doing either does nothing you also cannot close out by hitting the x in the upper right hand side. The computer does not respond to control alt delete and the only way you can get out of this is to manually shut the computer down. Again the only time it happens is if you are switching log on users. I have run the latest McAfee virus scan it picks up nothing - I also ran spybot and it also comes up with nothing. I ran a search for this file on my c drive and it does not show it exist at all. I am unsure as what to do next
About a week ago my computer started to freeze up, but in a way of that it would just hang i knew it was the explorer.exe so i got rid of the process then started it back, and works for a little while till i start to go into the my computer then soon it would freeze, so i know that explorer.exe hangs when i go into my computer. So ive done alot of check and havent came back with anything, So ive tried that sfc /scannow, yeah that didnt work took like 15 mins then i restarted my computer, and still have the proplem.
Hey, basicly my old Hard drive for some reason or another died. I got a second hand one off a friend which I beleive and he beleives to be allright. = Baracuda 7200 .6 160gb HDD IDE... Obviously when starting it gets stuck on Error loading OS.. So I restarted went into boot menu and placed CDDrive as no1 boot. Placed my XP disk in... it went through the stages: Press any key to boot.Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration now on the blue screen of "Press f6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver that passes by what should appear next is sposed to be a screen saying "press enter to install windows xp or R to repair," but that doesn't load up instead I am stuck with.
When I start my Averatec c3500 notebook (XP), the time/date setting is the same as when it was last shut down. I rarely connect this computer to the internet so I must manually reset the time/date when I first run this computer. If this requires a new CMOS battery, where is it located & how do I access it on a notebook PC?
I have a Dell Dimension 4600. I got a new 80gb hard drive and wanted to clone it with the current 20gb drive. I took both drives and connected them to a different pc that had norton ghost on it. After cloning, which went fine, I placed them back into the Dell with the 80 gig set as master, and the 20gb set as slave. The computer would post normally and boot to a black screen with a blinking cursor, this happned right after verifying dmi data pool. It would hang at this screen never getting to the windows loading screen.
I returned the 20gb to the master drive and set the 80gb as the slave. It booted fine. After getting into windows I saw it was reporting the 80gb as C: and the 20gb as D:. I changed the drive letter of the 80gb (in safe mode) to G:. After changing it the computer would freeze at the XP splash screen, however I still had control of the mouse. I believe this was caused from windows search for the page file on C: which no longer existed............
My problem started when my computer froze up. I was unable to move my mouse or do anything else. I turned my computer off and back on, and when it came back on, the first thing I noticed was that the visual theme had changed to one resembling an earlier version of Windows. I eventually found a solution to that. Now the remaining problem is that I can't connect to the internet. I am "connected" to my wireless network, but it says "limited or no connectivity." My IP address is listed as 0.0.0.0. When I use the "repair" option for my wireless network, it says it can't renew my IP address. It says the problem is probably with the network. Internet Explorer also says that. However, I know the problem is strictly with the computer itself.
When I renew the IP address myself, it just stays the same--0.0.0.0. I can't connect to the internet this way. I use a Toshiba Portege M400-S5032 with Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. I have a Netgear 54 Mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v7. Please be patient with me, as I don't know anything about how wireless networking works, or very many technical terms assosciated with it.
Anytime I try to open up a .avi file my computers CPU boosts up to 100%. I have tried Neros showtime and windows media player and both do the same. I have the latest directx and have installed the Klite codec pack. I originally did not have the codec pack installed and it was causing the problem. Any ideas?
My PC has a problem, Is already builded, but when I turn it on the PC likes Freezee , I'm on Windows XP SP1, Celeron 1,4000 , 256 memory , my pc temperature is OK, I chek power supply , I check the Procesors
we have had the computer in question for about 3 or four years now, however starting approximately a year ago it started to do this weird thing where randomly the entire computer will completely freeze, if there is any sound playing at the time of the freeze the sound loops repetitively and this will continue until the computer is reset.I tried to see if there was any specific cause for it doing this but i can only say that it happens more often during more intense programs (Eg: I-Tunes, video games, more demanding browsers like Chrome and Opera) but it will crash on occasion while doing nothing or running less intense programs like Internet explorer or paint. I have done numerous checks for virusesadwaremalware and nothing comes up that ultimately fixes the problem when it is removed. I have done several scans for registry errors and still nothing fixes the problem, at one point i even used the windows boot disc to delete the registry and restore it back to default, which as you can guess did not fix the problem and mainly just left me with a huge headache.I have reset the Bios and that doesn't work. i found something relatively similar to the problem i was having which would suggest that my RAM is bad so i ran memtest but after 4 passes it came up with nothing.I used the vacuum cleaner to clean out the whole case and still no results.
