Desktop Continually Reloads.
Jul 19, 2005My son helpfully managed to get a trojan installed on my machine, a nasty piece of work called Puper-D. I nailed it ok, but then my desktop would continually reload, and freeze as Dr watson came up.I disabled the good doctor in the registry to see what the problem was, and it was an application error in explorer.exe. I reloaded windows XP pro as a repair install, assuming the trojan had damaged the OS, and now I'm not getting the error message, but the desktop continuously refreshes about every 12 to 15 seconds, and takes anything on it out.

Dec 18, 2007I did a registry edit, (I think I didn't reboot the computer before turning it off and packing it for the flight, but I'm not sure) and without ever restarting the computer, I went on a plane flight. Now I'm at my destination (on another computer atm) and when I boot my computer, the lights literally turn on for only ~3 seconds, then it reboots, it will just continually loop this once I turn on the power supply and press the power button (turning off the power supply is the only way I've found to stop it). I don't think it even sends a signal to the monitor to turn on. I have been googling it and trying to find out what it is, it seems like it might be the registry that's the issue? If this registry edit did cause my computer to go haywire (even though I kind of have a hard time seeing that considering the reboot is so fast.. but I'm sure you guys know more than me) then what would I do to fix it? Get a boot CD right for my OS? Does that entail buying a new Win XP CD? Or can I use http://www.ubcd4win.com/news.htm to fix it? If I can get to Windows I can revert the registry change, no problem, if that is what's causing it.

Freeze On Screen Saver - Freeze Seems Random
Oct 11, 2006I can be doing anything, so not even be around the computer and it freezes, could freeze on the screen saver, or when im on hte internet, or playin a game, or writing an email anything.... not an overheating problem because it has happened say right after its done booting, or 5 mins after running or say 12 hours after being on.... or jsut not freeze seems to be really random

Hardware and disk test OK.I believe it is most likely a corrupted windows file or registry.I have the OEM restore disks.Q1. will the restore discs overwrite the data? I suspect they will.Q2. Can I get to the restore point if i can boot the machine to DOS?Q3. What other tactic other than restoring from scratch might work?
Computer Won't Boot Up - Continually Reboots
Aug 16, 2006Suddenly, today my computer won't boot up. It gets to where it displays the Windows XP screen, then for an instant there is a screen with some printing, but it goes too fast to read because the computer shuts down and reboots. It does this continually. I can boot up in safe mode so I went to add/remove programs in control panel and found two entries that I didn't recognize. I tried to remove them but they would not remove. Their names were ANIO Service and ANIWZCS2 Service. Keep in mind I was in Safe mode and logged on to a personal account, not the administrator account. I then went to Windows Explorer and there I saw a folder with the name ANI. Within that folder there were two more folders with files in them as listed below:

Laptop Continually Overheating And Turning Off
Jan 3, 2005My son Lloyd has a Toshiba Laptop which is just over a year old - typical eh as we can now no longer take it back on guarantee. It keeps turning itself off completely - I assume because of overheating???. This has started to happen quite frequently now, five times yesterday evening and also a few times this morning. He is getting quite frustrated at this and I have no idea what we can do to investigate it. Can anyone here offer advice as to what I could do to determine what the issue is and what may be causing it. Lloyd is registering on TSG right now as I type this note as 'burnsy' so he can monitor and reply within this thread.

Nov 15, 2008I have a HPDV8000 laptop and somehow managed to pick up this Antivirus XP 2008 Trojan Horse at some point. Pop ups about viruses etc were coming up so I used lavasoft's adaware and it seemed to remove it. After a cold boot, the desktop constantly restarts itself, followed by 0X0000008E Blue Screen. If I boot in safe mode with or without network connections, it does the same thing. If it sits at windows login. for any length of time the same blue screen stop codes come up.

Jul 15, 2008My desktop currently boots, but before starting XP displays a warning that the system was restarted to protect from data loss after an unexpected start or system failure. All of the options (safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, safe mode with networking, last known good configuration, and start normally) don't work, they all lead to a short start-up and then the system restarts. I turned off auto-restart on system failure to see the blue screen that would tell me the error, and the error I got was "*** STOP: 0x00000024", which from what I've researched usually has to with a corrupted ntfs.sys file but I'm not sure. I tried booting the Windows Recovery Console from the OS choice menu and that goes straight to the error, and booting the System Recovery disc lets me start up the process, but when I press "r" to run the normal fixes (that don't include wiping the drive) the process goes nowhere. It starts, but after finished the loading bar it goes to a solid baby blue screen.
I direly need my files off of the hard drive, so I'm not really looking at a full system recovery as an option, I just need something that'll buy me enough time to transfer most of the content on the hard drive (around 160 gigs) to an external hard drive.
I've also tried testing both sticks of RAM by removing one and then the other to see if one is bad, but the error still persists.

I came home today to turn it on, and the only thing that happens is the fans both work, the cd drive lights come on, the power button light comes on, and the orange cpu light comes on. After a few seconds the cd lights flash again, and they repeat this process. The screen, keyboard, and mouse do not work. The monitor stays black the whole time. It has windows xp on it. I got it at Best buy, but it is out of warranty. It seems as if the computer continually restarts?

Spybot SD Won't Update
Apr 1, 2006When I try to update Spybot SD, it says bad checksum. I've looked everywhere to find out what it means, but no luck. Does this make my Spybot unreliable? I run it and it comes up clean. I'm just concerned about the update problem.

We've followed the instructions on symantec for removal, didn't work. We've formatted it by deleting the partitions, still came back. Then we did a low-level format, and it still came back. The website at symantec says it comes from Kazaa?! I don't have kazaa, and never have. I run Norton virus checks and it doesn't find it, or it says it already deleted it. I search my computer and delete all the little tftp zero byte files. They keep coming back, and I don't know what to do.

Jun 20, 2006I started having a strange problem happening. Upon windows 2000 start up, a DOS window opens saying that it is an instance of svchost.exe running. Now I know this has to run but this is the first time that it ever opened a window when doing it. So I figured something in the registry got whacked. So I downloaded spybot and ran it. It found 153 things that I certainly didn't want running on my computer. I had spybot delete them all. I then restarted my PC. The DOS window still pops up on startup.
I then looked at my start menu to see if something got added there that is starting this up on start up. Nothing. I then manually checked the register against another computer that I have that doesn't have the same problem. All instances of any calls to svchost.exe on both computers appear to be the same

100% CPU Usage - Ran Spybot S&D And Adaware
Feb 22, 2005Alright, I have no clue as to what this problem may be caused by. I've ran Spybot S&D as well as Adaware and nothing has improved. My CPU usage still runs at 100% regardless of my rebooting and such.

May 31, 2006I am the administrator (at least I assume I am since I set up our home computer) on my home Dell Dimension. I try and run AdAware and Spybot regularly but it seems that I have to go to each desktop (there are five users on our home computer) to run them to make sure I clean up everything. As you can imagine, especially since my kids do a lot of cruising (most of it supervised), it takes a long time. I am hoping there is some way to be able to run these apps from my desktop and globally cover all desktops at once, but I haven't found it. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

Jan 21, 2009I have been experiencing a problem with my Windows XP installation.My computer somehow got a few especially nasty viruses, and it eventually got to a point where it wouldn't start. I ran a virus scan from Knoppix, which rid my computer of most of its viruses, and Windows would start once again.It still had some problems, notably with random pop-ups. I ran Ad-Aware, but before I could delete the malicious content, ad-aware suddenly closed. I tried again, and got the same result. Eventually, I was able to delete the crucial malware, but there were still 70 entries of low-priority threats that I didn't get around to. ALso, I was having trouble updating my virus scanner, so I never got around to running another scan. I never ran Spybot, either. I know now that my negligence was dumb.
