How To Fix Random "Start Navigation" Clicking On SP3

Oct 2, 2008

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and the same clicking sound that you get when you open a folder "Start Navigation" is just randomly happening all the time. I went into the control panel and turned the "start navigation" sound off but it doesn't matter it keeps clicking.

Start Navigation Clicks

Dec 26, 2005

I get random/frequent clicking any time that I'm logged on to my user name on our family computer. I'm running XP Media Center. I went to ''control panel/Sounds/change sound scheme'' and identified the clicking to be ''Start Navigation''. I know that I could just turn the click off, but I was hoping to figure out what was causing this anoying click. I ran Adaware and did a virus scan but neither fixed the problem.

Start Navigation Sound Randomly Changes

Mar 5, 2009

I'm using a Dell XPS with Windows XP SP2 and I've noticed that my Start Navigation sound (the click) randomly changes to the "Empty Recycle Bin" sound.I saved my Sound Scheme with the original Start Nav sound and now every time that I noticed it's changed, I have to go into the Sound settings and change it from a blank sound scheme back to my preset scheme, but I can't figure out how it changes in the first place.

Clicking Turn Off Computer In Start Menu Takes To Long

Feb 25, 2008

After I click "Turn off computer" in the start menu, I get an hourglass and it takes over a minute for the Turn off/restart/log off box to come up. Anyone know why this is happening? I can still work with the computer and do other stuff, but it just takes a while for the box to come up. It's really annoying.

Can't Start / Occasional Freezes And Random Reboots

Dec 24, 2004

I would get occasional freezes and random reboots, moreso than with my previously computer. It would usually take me three reboots to get the computer going well, but then it would be fine. I had done two clean installs of xp so I know the OS is fine. As mentioned, i had occasional xp shutdowns due to "device driver problems," but i could always get it going again. All drivers were up to date. Now i have it so that i can not even get into windows. After it gerts through bios, the windows loading logo comes up, then blue screen, and reboot. Everytime. Tried switching hard drive with another that has xp pro and same thing. Blue screen says usual suggest disabling anti-virus but can't even get into windows now.

Random Freezing/not Even Getting Fully Through The Start Up Process

Dec 14, 2004

Not real sure what we've got going here but this computer seems to be getting more and more unstable. I'm running Win XP Pro, SP2 and over the last couple of weeks we've gone from freezing up once every/every other day to freezing up multiple times a day and often not even getting fully through the start up process. The only things I can think of that we've changed is re-installing the printer and upgrading Front Page 2000 to 2003. (That doesn't mean that's all that's been done, just what I remember right now!

Random Switch Offs, Hanging, Slow Start / Shutdown

May 4, 2008

I'm first going to post my Computer specs before I go into what's happening. My computer use to and still is(not as much for some reason unknown reason)just switches off completely, no Windows is logging off or anything. Sometimes when I put my computer into Hibernate, I get a BSOD and when I switch my computer off or on it takes awhile to get into Windows(I think that's because of Panda Internet security, kills system resources) Also, XP freezes..I can do everything with the keyboard like get to Task Manager but basically the whole desktop freezes.I'm not sure when it started to do all this, and I doubt it's a Virus or any other malicious content. It's just even with 3gbs of RAM, XP seems slow, I can feel how and when my computer is going fast from when I upgraded my RAM from 2-3gb but I'm not feeling it because of the hanging.

Shutdown Hang/freeze Up While Clicking "Turn Off Computer" From Start Menu?

Jul 9, 2008

well, this problem started a little while ago, Ive got a 2.93ghz P4, and 1GB memory, so i know my computer is (plenty) fast enough.when i click on the button in the start menu "Turn Off Computer", my PC shows the hourglass, and i cant click on anything, this will go on for about a minute or 2, once it took 5 minutes. then the small box with shutdown options comes up finally, and then after the light blue screen gets to "Shutting Down...". it takes maybe a bit longer than expected but im not to sure about that.

Clicking On .bat File Can't Run

Jun 7, 2006

I have never realised my current winXP has problems opening .bat file. When I click on such file, all it shows was a new window (something that look like DOS window) but as soon as it opens, it closes fast too. In effect, nothing is being run or activated (if that the correct words to use). I have downloaded some programs that required .bat file and because of this I can't run them. Is there anything wrong with my system? It is currently Windows Xp home edition version 2002, SP2.
