Every time I open I.E. 6 and click on the ADDRESS bar "down arrow" it locks up (I.E. is not responding).I can't type in an URL and hit GO either. In effect I.E. 6 is no longer usable.If I allow it to contact MS there is NEVER a solution!There are no viruses or browser hijackers on this PC and I run Spybot and Ad-Aware weekly.I.E. 6 is useless at this time.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running xp pro. I can not get an internet connection through my ethernet card. When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.

So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. I checked under the tools and I can see the tick infront of the address bar.

Somebody told me its a bug in Windows where you clicked only once, but Windows think you have double clicked.

After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.
Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article
I am using Windows XP Home edition. How do you delete an address from the list of automatic webb address list in the Address box? I tried highlighting it and entering delete but it doesn't get deleted.

View 6 Replies View Relatedusing windows xp media edition. when I click on things on my screen my computor sometimes works ok but sometimes doulbe clicks or triple clicks and sometimes clicks up to five times by itself I don't understand why this happens. Is it possible I have some type of virus that is causing this multi-clicking of the mouse when I only click once. I did a full system scan with Norton and nothing is found.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Lap top with Windows 2000 Pro on it. When booting up, the computer will go through all its normal start-up procedures. When it comes time for the Username/Password, I put them in, I hear the wave sound for windows loading, and then it freezes! The hour glass cursor remains on the screen and moves, only NOTHING happens from there on.
However,I can get it to boot normally after this by shutting it down.... then going into the Bios Set-up screen.....Change NOTHING & simply exit out of the Bios Set-up......THEN it will start normally and bring up the Desktop! BUT....if I shut it down again, It will freeze right after the Log-in just like before. Im tired of always having to go into the Bios to get this darn thing to work
I'm having problems with computer freezing when I multi task. Hitting the ctrl alt delete will bring it back. I have a compaq 64 bit with 512 mb. This only seems to happen when I'm using internet explorer.Could it be a bad ethernet causing lockups?

Also tried to reinstall the LPT1 port and the drivers several times without no success. Even checked so that there's no other software that interferes with the printer drivers. and did run a virus check, both in Win and in pure DOS-mode, nothing. Starting to suspect that the LPTport on my Mobo- ASUS P4P800E Deluxe is screwed.The setting in BIOS is set to ECP as default and can't be manipulated.

I try to move the mouse and nothing. I try to hit CTRL ALT Delete and still nothing. The only way to get it unfrozen is to do a cold boot. I did a thorough get of the hard drive and it finds no bad sectors. Any clue as to what might be causing this? Also I tried installing windows 98. I can install most of windows 98, but the computer locks up when trying to load 98. Not sure where to go from here.

I have all the updates and service packs, but now every time i boot up the computer or bring it out of standby, the windows interface will not allow any new programs or windows to be launched for around 5 minutes, at which point all of the programs i've attempted to launch will all launch at once. This includes task manager, windows explorer and the start menu.
This seems to have something to do with my internet connection, because it will work alright until i connect, and as soon as i do it will happen and will freeze up. A few days ago i managed to disconnect and it broke the freeze and everything launched, so i connected again and it seemed fine. Today however when i clicked disconnect, it took five minutes or so to actually cut off.

I have an email in my inbox that will not delete! I can't open it or anything. It is from a friend of mine, so I am almost positive it is not infected. I have adaware, spybot and avg all on my system updated and have ran scans--nothing found. I have tried to delete the email in front and behind it while all three are selected and it locks up oe. I have booted into safe mode to delete it--locks up oe. As soon as you click on the email it locks it up--will not even open it.

I have 1 gig of ram running on single channel and have tried swapping them out and moving them around with no success.I have a X850XT graphics card installed.
If i try and boot with the existing os on the harddrive it just keeps going through the boot cycle over and over.If i try and run the XP setup it locks up where it says Setup is Starting windows at the bottom left of the screen.
If i run Knoppix from cd all is good and i can get going and explore my harddrive etc.
